Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, a pandemic caused by a novel coronavirus began to have devastating effects worldwide. The etiological agent was Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and the disease named coronavirus disease or COVID-19. Nearly 109 million people have been infected by the virus and more than 2.4 million people have died. An intense debatehas started on therapeutic possibilities for COVID-19 in pregnancy. The management of the disease is essentially driven by the symptoms. Asymptomatic or pauci-symptomatic women do not require inpatient care or medications, but simply need monitoring of respiratory function for up to two weeks for evidence of deterioration. Convalescent plasma from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19, a blood component that is not contraindicated in pregnant women and has been transfused safely for at least 30 years, deserves special consideration.

Abstract

Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum. Most of the new case of syphilis occur in men, but there is a tendency of increasing infection rate in reproductive-aged women, with the highest rates observed in 20-24 years old. Syphilis can be transmitted by sexual intercourse, blood products transfusion, or transplacental known as congenital syphilis and during delivery process as intrapartum transmission. Syphilis is a relapsing and remitting disease with early and late stages. Congenital syphilis is caused by foetal infection of Treponema pallidum, transmission mostly occurs transplacental, and it may occur at any time during gestation.

Abstract

Malnutrition refers to deficiencies, excesses or imbalances in a person’s intake of energy and/ornutrients1. Geriatric malnutrition is often associated with functional impairment, increased infectionand morbidity and mortality rates2. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), theglobal prevalence of malnutrition in the elderly is 1.3% - 47.8%. The prevalence of malnutrition was found to be high in hospitals, in Indonesia it is estimated to range from 33-70%3. Malnutrition is often associated with cachexia. Cachexia occurs due to imbalance between basal metabolic rate(BMR) that persistent increase and inadequat calorie or protein intake, which is known as malnutrition. Factors that cause cachexia include digestive factors4.

Abstract

Almost every pathology condition involved heart and lung use chest x-ray as a diagnosticmethod, with no exception in pregnant woman. One of the most common abnormalities found inthe lung is pulmonary oedema. Pulmonary oedema is a condition caused by the accumulation offluid in the interstitial spaces and alveoli of the lung. Pulmonary oedema is distinguished by cardiogenic and noncardiogenic causes. Cardiogenic pulmonary oedema is caused by left heartfailure regardless of the reason. Non-cardiogenic pulmonary oedema caused by underlying diseases besides the heart. The important radiological features in pulmonary oedema are the thickening of the interlobar septa, commonly called the septal line or Kerley line, peri bronchial cuffs, fluid in the fissures and pleural effusion. Interlobar septa are usually not visible on a chest x-ray.This septa will be visible if there is a build-up of fluid in the area. Management of patients withpulmonary oedema is to improve the airway, adequate ventilation, and oxygenation.

Lumbar radiculopathy is a pathological process involving the lumbar radial nerve, especially theL5 and S1 radial nerve. This condition involved any cause of spinal nerve irritation, such as degenerative conditions of the spine, trauma, infection, tumors, and vascular abnormalities and manifestas radicular symptoms. Lumbosacral radiculopathy is a clinical diagnosis used to describe neurological symptoms due to secondary causes either mechanical and/or inflammatory involving oneof the lumbosacral nerve roots. At the age of 50 years and above, degenerative changes in thespine are the most causes of lumbar radiculopathy

Abstract

Dextrocardia is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by the malposition of the heart in theright side of the thorax. The disorder is often accompanied by other developmental anomalies, and diagnosis is usually incidental. Some cases involve situs inversus totalis or reversal of the position of other organs. Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is the most common congenital heart defectobserved in children and is second only to bicuspid aortic valve as the most common congenitalabnormality in adults. Dextrocardia is a rare condition, with studies indicating incidence rates ofapproximately 1 in 12,000 pregnancies. Kartagener syndrome has a lower incidence rate of around1 in 30,000 live births, and situs inversus totalis was observed in roughly 50% of patients withprimary ciliary dyskinesia.
