Abstract

Introduction: Entropion is a malposition of the eyelids in which the eyelid margin folds inward and causes irritation to the eye. It can be caused by congenital, spastic, cicatricial and involutional entropion. Involutional entropion affects 10.6% in group over the age of 60, especially in Asian races as compared to Caucasian races.1 It can have adverse effect on the eye such as trichiasis in which the eyelashes protrudes inwards towards the eyeball, leading to persistent erosions of punctate epithelium, pannus formation or ulcers. Definitive treatment for entropion is surgical intervention when feasible, such as the Jones procedure. The prognosis of corrective surgical intervention is highly correlated to the successfulness of the surgery and wound healing process of the patient, thus needing highly accurate and cautious procedure.2 Methods: This case report was taken from the Eye Clinic of Rumah Sakit Umum Siloam, in February 2022. Results: A 78 years-old female presented with complaints of discomfort, foreign body sensation, irritation, itching, and glare in both eyes since 1 year ago. She had a history of cataract surgery 3 years ago. Conclusions: Anamnesis and ophthalmological examinations results lead to suspected glaucoma, involution entropion ODS and pseudophakia ODS. Blepharoplasty was performed on the patient with appropriate surgical and therapeutic techniques. The post-operative examination showed results indicating a good prognosis in this patient.

Abstract

Introduction : Trauma of eyelids due to sharp object, blunt object, road traffic accidents etc. are the major causes resulting in injuries to eyelids. A good identification and prompt treatment can improve the outcome of palpebral laceration. Purpose : To describe clinical characteristics of eyelids laceration due to trauma without involvement of lacrimal system and other orbital Methods : A retrospective descriptive cross sectional study was conducted. Data is taken from medical records of patients diagnosed as eyelid laceration from January 2016 to November 2020. Age, gender, laterality, first reference, place, onset, cause, site of trauma, depth, outcome, complication and System for Peri-Ocular Trauma (SPOT) classification was reviewed. Results : This study comprised of total 157 patients. Most of them were males 119 (75.80%) with median of age 24. The main mechanism of injury was direct trauma 88 (56.05%). The location where the injury occured was road side accidents 81 (51.59%). Superior eyelid was the most affected 96 (61.15%). Subcutaneus tissue as wound base 68 (43.31%) and affected to margin of eyelid 36 (22.92%). Hypertropic scar was the most complication found in 40 (25.47%). The most common SPOT type injury were Type IA. Conclusion : Eyelids laceration due to trauma is common in male productive age, mainly affecting superior palpebra, mostly because of road side accidents. Hypertropic scar was most complication beside traumatic ptosis, lagophthalmos and lid margin notching. The SPOT classification can simplify a recording of palpebral injuries.

Abstract

Introduction: Glaucoma condition caused by blunt trauma is a rare case. We report a case study in a patient with secondary glaucoma at a tertiary referral hospital. Case Presentation: A 47-year-old man with chief complaint of pain in the left eye accompanied by headache, with a pain scale of 7/10. The client had a history of being hit while playing badminton. Vital signs are in stable condition. The visual acuity of the right eye was 0.05 and the visual acuity of the left eye was 1/300. Intraocular pressure of the left eye was 46 mmHg. Anterior segment showed conjunctival hyperemia, corneal edema and decrease of pupillary reflex of the left eye. The client complains that he is worried about his condition. Outcome: Nursing care provided to patients with glaucoma focuses on pain and anxiety. The nursing interventions provided are pain management and anxiety reduction. Conclusion: Appropriate nursing care can overcome the worsening of the condition of damage to the internal organs of the eye that can lead to blindness. The family support system is an important part in dealing with the condition of the disease.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction Ptosis is a condition of abnormal upper eyelid position in the primary gaze resulting in a decrease palpebral fissure width. Comprehensive assessments including history taking, physical and thorough eye examination are essential to determine the diagnosis and to decide the most appropriate management of ptosis according to the underlying etiology. The surgical intervention used in ptosis patients is based on the result of the physical examination. Purpose To describe the clinical characteristic of ptosis patient whom underwent surgical intervention at National Eye Center Cicendo Eye Hospital. Methods A descriptive retrospective study was conducted from medical records of ptosis patient after surgical intervention at National Eye Center Cicendo Eye Hospital, from January 2018 to December 2020. Results A total of 91 patients were reviewed. The median age was 19 years old, gender dominated by women. Of these patients, 66 (72.5%) patients had congenital ptosis and unilateral in 80 (87.9%) cases. Results obtained severe ptosis was the highest in ptosis degree as for 72 (79.1%). In total, 58 (63.7%) patients having moderate levator function. Levator resection repair technique was the method of choice in 51 (56%) patients.
