Our primary objective is to publish conceptual and research articles that delve into the application of language studies, literature studies, and cultural studies, emphasizing their significance in teaching and the experiences of language in education. Diverse Coverage: i-Plural covers a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to assessment and testing in language learning and education, applied linguistics methodologies and issues, classroom language teaching concerns, cultural aspects in language, language education, language curriculum development and implementation, effective methods for language teaching, diversity/multiculturalism, language in higher education context, language competences, language learning and identity, literacy, bilingualism, bilingual education, and translation and interpretation (simultaneous/consecutive interpretation). Abstract

This thesis investigates how the textbooks Netzwerk Neu A2 & B1 support teaching collocations in German as a Foreign Language in Indonesia. It categorizes collocation exercises, qualitatively analyzing them following Gevkalyuk (2009), Stojić (2016), and Targońska and Stork (2017). Exercises are compared across A2 and B1 levels. Netzwerk Neu A2 & B1 offers numerous collocation exercises, primarily in the workbooks rather than in the coursebooks, with A2 exercises slightly outnumbering B1. Most focus on receptive skills, necessitating a balanced approach including both receptive and productive skills. German teachers in Indonesia play a crucial role, designing effective teaching methods and emphasizing collocation benefits and importance. The proposed teaching model for A2 and B1 enables parallel development of receptive and productive collocation skills. This research provides valuable insights for German language educators, offering a practical approach to enhancing collocational competence among learners. Through meticulous analysis and comparison, this thesis contributes to optimizing collocation teaching strategies, benefiting both teachers and learners in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the comparison of cultural aspect equivalence in the Indonesian and German translated versions of the song Show Yourself. In this research, a qualitative method is used with datasources in the form of the original song lyrics entitled‘Show Yourself’, the lyrics of the Indonesian translated version entitled Tunjukkan dirimu, and the lyrics of the German translated version entitled Zeige Dich. Meanwhile, the data of this research are words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that are culturally charged in the lyrics of these songs. The technique of ‘Simak Catat’ is an activity of listening and recording existing information from data sources to obtain data. After that, it was analyzed with three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results showed that there are four of the five categories of linguistic forms of cultural aspects proposed by Stolze in the song, namely the concept of terminology, language form, syntax, and pragmatics. In addition, according to Pym's equivalence theory, both translated versions of the song use the concept of directional equivalence, i.e. the translator uses a free strategy in the process of translating the song.

Abstract

Three of Barbara Schöneberger's songs from the album Jetzt singt sie auch noch...! criticize women in society. This study aims to elucidate German perceptions about women. In this study, a descriptive qualitative technique was used as the research methodology. The research's data consists of phrases and words taken from the lyrics of three songs by BarbaraSchöneberger from the album Jetzt singt sie auch noch…! Document analysis techniques, note-taking, and listening wereused to collect data. We then employed careful observation and listening to analyze the data. This study used the LiterarySociology approach, which draws on Alan Swingewood's concept of Literary Sociology. The results of the study show that: (1) From Barbara Schöneberger's album Jetzt singt sie noch...!, the first three tracks Three categories can be used to categorize the stereotypes about women: (a) those that focus on how they appear physically; (b) those that highlight how they are perceived as capable; and (c) those that depict women as nothing more than objects for other women's bodies. (2)Examined social issues include the following: Social criticism can be divided into three categories: (a) criticism of morality in society, which breeds stereotypes and discrimination against women; (b) criticism of economics, which focuses on unethical economic growth that fuels social unrest; and (c) criticism of gender, which addresses women's roles as objects of all women and gender norms that restrict women to household duties.

Abstract

Figurative language is vocabulary that is used creatively, departing from its literal meaning. Song is one of the resources used by language learners to fill in the gaps between one another. This study was done for non-native speakers of foreign languages who might have trouble understanding figurative language. Finding the most common figurative language among the three languages is the goal of this study. Perrine's theory is applied in this study to analyze the kind of figurative language. Furthermore, Tilly's theory was applied to analyze the figurative language's contextual meaning. The types of figurative language were analyzed in this study using a qualitative method. There are 37 types of figurative language from the English version, 22 types from the Tamil version, and 29 types from the German version. The English version is the most frequently used figurative language among the three languages. Therefore, researchers in the future should examine the parallels, differences, and trends in these languages' use of figurative language, according to this study.

Abstract

This study investigates how implementing the Flipped Classroom model can improve high school students' German language learning outcomes at Lab Unpatti High School. The Flipped Classroom is a blended learning approach combining face-to-face interaction with online activities, integrating synchronous (real-time) learning with asynchronous (self-paced) study. This model moves the initial information delivery outside the classroom, allowing class time to be used for deeper knowledge assimilation. The study involved 24 tenth-grade students from Lab Unpatti High School. An experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed. Data collection instruments included tests and questionnaires. Data analysis using a t-test showed that the calculated t-value (5.055) significantly exceeded the t-table value (1.710). This significant difference indicates a substantial improvement in learning outcomes, with students' average German scores increasing by over 89%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Flipped Classroom model effectively enhances students' learning outcomes.
