Abstract

Vegetable oil that produced from pumpkin seed can be used to be a raw material of industrial manufacture such as foods, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. The aim of this research is to characterize the physical and chemical properties of pumpkin seed oil extracted using Soxhlet apparatus. This research hopefully can give the information about the quality of pumpkin seed oil from Soxhlet apparatus extraction so that the data can be used on the next research. Characteristics of pumpkin seed oil (Cucurbita pepo L.) from Soxhlet apparatus extraction had been researched by identified the parameter of physical properties such as color by chromameter, boiled and smoke points, specific gravity by picnometer, refractive index by refractometer, water content, and impurities; chemical properties such as acid value, peroxide value, iodine value, saponification value; functional groups by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). Rendemen of the extraction was 35,35(±2,8)% at 60oC for 4-6 hours. The physical properties were: color: the value of L: 52,79(±5,09), a: +2,86(±2,22), b: +26,04(±0,70); smoke point: 119,50(±0,70)oC, boiling point: 209,00(±4,24)oC; specific gravity 0,92(±8,23x10-4); refractive index 1,46(±8,21x10-4) at 25,85(±0,05)oC; water content 8,85(±0,76)%; impurities 11,74(±0,34)%; and the chemical properties were: acid value 2,76(±0,24) mg KOH/g; peroxide value: 49,56(±8,99)meq/1000g and 24,78(±4,50)mmol/1000g; iodium value 13,38(±1,47)mg I2/100g; saponification value 357,94(±62,97)mg KOH/g; has the specific stretching ethylenic groups at 3007cm-1 andasymetric stretching of ester carbonyl groups -C=O at 1745-1659cm-1, also asymetric stretching of ester C-O-C at 1235-1105cm-1 and bending of ester O-C-O at 592cm-1 on fingerprint region.

Abstract

Starch as one of the excipients in the pharmaceutical plays an important role. One of the source of starch that is widely used is from cassava. This study aims to look for other sources of starch from local materials which can ensure the quality and availability, such as the seeds of durian, jackfruit, and avocado. The methods of this research include the characterization of starch and proximate analysis (moisture, ash content, fat content, protein content, and fiber content). The results showed that the starch from grains rendemen durian, jackfruit, and avocados were respectively 10, 16, and 4%. Proximate analysis showed that the protein content of the starch grains durian, jackfruit,and avocado respectively were 14.58; 13.56; and 17.13%, while the fat content of starch grains durian, jackfruit, and avocado respectively were 3.55; 3.68; and 4.95% and fiber content of starch grains durian, jackfruit, and avocado were 8.80; 8.55; and 9.10%. It was concluded that macronutrient containsof avocado seed greater than durian and jackfruit seeds, although rendemen of avocado seed starch was lower than durian and jackfruit seed.

Abstract

Curcuminoid is the compound contained in temulawak(Curcumaxanthorizzha Roxb). Some research reports indicate that curcumin has various pharmacological activities such as hepatoprotector, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, and etc. Study on thedetermination of curcuminoid using visible spectrophotometer was done to find outthe content of curcuminoid in 5sample temulawak syrup(Curcumaxanthorizzha Roxb) on the market. Measurements performed at wavelength of 425nm.The results showed that the limits of detection and quantitation of analytical methods were 0.27 and 0.91ppmand the percentage of recoverywas94.05% ±0.97%. The content of curcuminoid in 5 samples were350 ppm,347 ppm; 308 ppm; 163 ppm; dan 359 ppm.

Abstract

Green tea (Camellia Sinensis L.) is known to have several pharmacological activities of which are antioxidants. This research aims to make preparations cream formula ethanol extract of green tea leaves as a protection against ultraviolet light exposure. Cream made using the material forming wax cream fan sew-p 10%. Organoleptic testing cream preparation includes observation of discoloration, odor, pH, and homogeneity during storage. The organoleptic evaluation of preparation has been done includes observation of changes in color, odor, pH, and homogeneity during storage. Based on the results showed that ultraviolet light protective cream with dosage of extract concentration of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% stable during storage. Viscosity evaluation showed an increase in viscosity during 28 days of observation. The results of effectiveness evaluation with ultraviolet spectrophotometric method showed that increasing concentration of green tea leaf extract in the preparation can increase the value of SPF (Sun Protector Factor). The value of SPF were 2.32 for 2% extract; 5.09 for 4% extract; 6.71 for 6% extract; 7.48 for 8% extract. From these results, it can be concluded that the formula contained 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% extract as a protective of ultraviolet light.

Abstract

Tests were conducted to Averrhoa bilimbi L. as analgesic activity in male Swiss Webster mice by Siegmund method. A number of 55 male mice were randomly divided into 11 groups: group 1 (received suspension drug carrier), group 2 (received aspirin dose of 65 mg / kg bw), group 3-5 (received n-hexane extracts doses of 5, 50 , 500 mg / kg bw respectively orally), group 6-8 (received ethyl acetate extracts doses of 5, 50 , 500 mg / kg bw respectively orally), and group 9-11 (received ethanol extracts doses of 5, 50 , 500 mg / kg bw respectively orally). Induction of pain using 1% acetic acid dose of 262.5 mg / kg bw intraperitoneally. Data amount of stretching for 1 hour each group were analyzed statistically. The results showed that the Averrhoa bilimbi L. extracts of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol showed analgesic activity. Ethanol extract of Averrhoa bilimbi L. dose of 500 mg / kg bw showed analgesic activity comparable to aspirin.Based on the results of this study concluded that Averrhoa bilimbi L. have analgesic activity. Averrhoa bilimbi L. extract as the best analgesic is ethanol extract dose of 500 mg / kg bw.

Abstract

Antihyperglicemia activity tests were conducted for Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruit extract in male Swiss Webster mice using glucose tolerance tests. This study aimed to determined the effect of Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruit extracts using 3 different types polarity of solvent, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol on blood glucose levels of mice were loaded with 50% glucose solution. Test animals were randomly divided into 12 groups: group 1 (normal group received the drug carrier), group 2 (the positive group received drug carrier), group 3 (glibenclamide 0.65 mg / kg bw), group 4-12 were test group received the extract n-hexane, ethyl and ethanol of Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruit extracts each dose of 5, 500, and 750 mg / kg bw respectively. Blood glucose levels were measured every 30 minutes for 120 minutes. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruit extracts doses of 5, 500 and 750 mg / kg bw showed the best antihiperglikemia activity.Based on the resultsof this study concludedthatAverrhoa bilimbi has antihyperglycemic activity.

Abstract

Anti-inflammatory drugs are often prescribed in hospitals, especially in adult patients to treat pain, especially in joint disease. Anti-inflammatory drug that is used long term can cause gastrointestinal disturbances. This study aims to monitor adverse drug reactions from the use of anti-inflammatory drugs on the gastrointestinal. This study is a descriptive study using concurrent data is taken from the order signals in the inpatient unit involving 52 patients. This study includes several stages of the preliminary survey, the determination of medicine criteria, criteria of drug use, setting criteria of patients, collecting data from the order signal, there is a data source, data analysis and conclusions. The results showed that of the 52 patients there are 17.31% of patients get anti-inflammatory drug therapy (consisting of 11.53% receiving nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and 5.77% received antiinflammatory steroid) and received a gastrointestinal drug without gastrointestinal indications. Gastrointestinal drugs used were antiemetic 23.61%, 19.44% antacids, antiflatulen, 16.67, kolagogum 8.33%, 12.50% other gastrointestinal drugs, antidiarrheal 11.11%, 2.78% laxative, and digestan koreletikum 2.78%. Based on the results of this study concluded that the use of anti-inflammatory drugs either steroids or nonsteroidal can lead to gastrointestinal adverse drug reaction it gained 17.31%
