Abstract

Adolescents still do not realize that many Islamic teachings are established to protect their well-being and mental health. Dating, which is forbidden in Islam, has become more common among adolescents in recent days. Adolescents use love as the main reason for dating. This article aimed to examine the impact of dating on adolescents’ mental health. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected through observation and interviews with ten informants aged 19 to 22 (five informants had dated and the others did not). The study found that adolescents who have romantic relationships before marriage have greater stress levels than those who stay single. Prohibiting romantic relationships outside marriage is considered a form of Islamic teaching that safeguards human well-being.

Abstract

Undergraduate thesis is one of the requirements for students to obtain an academic degree. To complete the task, the student must believe in their ability to achieve certain goals which is known as self-efficacy. The study’s objective was to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and anxiety in college students who are working on their undergraduate thesis. The sample in this study was 218 students of the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, chosen with the accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using an online questionnaire in the form of a Google Form. Self-efficacy was measured using the modified General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) from Schwarzer & Jerusalem (1993, 2010) and anxiety was measured using the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) form YI anxiety scale modified from Spielberger (1989) and Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg, & Jacobs (1983). Researchers then used Spearman's correlation technique to analyze the data. There was a negative correlation between self-efficacy and anxiety among college students working on their undergraduate theses (r = -0.223, p<0.05). The study concluded that it is necessary to support improvement in self-efficacy in undergraduate students.

Abstract

Students with intellectual disability require career guidance to develop their creativity and potential. This research aimed to describe teacher career guidance strategies in developing the creativity of students with intellectual disability at SMA Al Firdaus Sukoharjo. The study used a qualitative approach with the case study method. Research participants consisted of guidance and counseling (BK) teachers, inclusion coordinators, and two accompanying teachers. Data were collected via observation, interviews, and documentation. Researchers implemented the Miles and Huberman theory for the data analysis, which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the strategies used for career guidance are instructional (teaching methods) and substantial (interpersonal relationships). With these strategies, teachers can inspire mentally retarded students to develop their talent and interests. In addition, teachers pay attention to emotional closeness, namely by giving creative freedom to students. It was noted that there were mentally retarded students who won at the national level and there were alumni who had businesses after they graduated.
