Abstract

The production of soybeans can be increase by breeding for tolerance soybeans at saline soil. Mutation by gamma rays is one of a breeding technique that can be modifiy plant's genetic. The soybeans that used was induced by gamma rays with dosis 160 Gy, 208 Gy, 256 Gy, 352 Gy, and 400 Gy. The research objective was to evaluate the genetic variability and heritability for some characters of M4 soybean mutations resulting from gamma irradiation mutations.The material used consisted of 18 genotypes of M4. This research was conducted at Agrotechopark, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Science, Diponegoro University from July to November 2019. The experimental was arranged in a completely randomized design (CDR) monofactor with 18 genotypes of black soybeans and Detam-3 Prida as controls. The results showed that genetic diversity observed in the overall character of plants except flowering age, number of empty pods, weight of one seed, and weight of 100 grains. The result of heritability showed a high heritability on the parameters of plant height, age of harvest, total number of seeds, number of filled pods, total number of pods, total pod weight, and total seed weight. The value of moderate heritability is found on the parameters of the number of leaves, and then the low heritability is on the parameters of flowering age, number of empty pods, weight of 1 seed, and weight of 100 grains.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the effect of application bamboo root PGPR and rice straw compost on the physical quality of the soil, growth and production of the corn plant (Zea mays). This research was arranged in split plot design 3 x 4 with 3 replications. The main plot is rice straw compost (K): K1=10 ton/ha, K2=15 ton/ha, K3=20 ton/ha. The subplot is PGPR (P): P0= 0 ml/l (control), P1=10 ml/l, P2=15 ml/l, P3=20 ml/l.  The parameters observed were soil porosity, soil water content, plant height, number of leaf, cob length, cob weight, weight of seed and field. Data were analyzed extensively and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the treatment of PGPR and rice straw compost increases with the addition of dose. Treatment of PGPR provide a significant response to increase in the porosity, soil water content and number of leaf compared to the control, while the length of cob and weight of seed showed an increase in the addition treatment of a dose compost and PGPR. Treatment of PGPR or rice straw compost has yet to show a response different to the plant height. The interaction treatment significant on the weight of cob and field. The results of the optimal corn crop is achieved at the treatment dose of 15 ton/ha compost straw combined with PGPR dose of 15 ml/l.

Abstract

This study evaluated the interaction between mushroom species (ear mushrooms and oyster mushrooms) and growing media (with the addition of coffee peels) on mushroom growth and yield. The results showed that oyster mushrooms were superior to ear mushrooms in various parameters, including mycelial growth, time to first primordia emergence, harvest wet weight, and dry weight. The use of media with the addition of 20% coffee skin showed good results, with significant mushroom growth and yield. This research was conducted at the Production Unit of the Integrated Land Biotechnology Development Center, Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Muhammadiyah University of Malang from November 2019 to January 2020. This research used an experimental method with two types of mushrooms and three different compositions of growing media. The results of data analysis showed significant differences between treatments, with oyster mushrooms showing better results than ear mushrooms. These results can be a guideline for oyster mushroom cultivation by utilizing coffee skin waste as an effective growing medium.

Abstract

Strawberry production in Indonesia has been on the rise in various regions, including Aceh, Riau, Jambi, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and others. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (2021), production fluctuated from 573.00 tons in 2019 to 559.00 tons in 2020, rebounding to 838.00 tons in 2021. Factors influencing production include land availability, proper fertilization methods, and planting media. Adequate fertilization, considering both dosage and frequency, plays a crucial role. The study, conducted at Balitjestro GreenHouse in Batu City, East Java, focused on the interaction between lime and fertilizer on strawberry plant growth and yield. Synthetic fertilizers, particularly phosphate fertilizers, are essential for plant growth. The research utilized a completely randomized design with two factors: CaCl2 lime (S) and phosphoric acid fertilizer (R), resulting in two treatment combinations (4x4). Each treatment, repeated three times, yielded 48 experimental units, with one plant per unit. Results indicated that the addition of CaCl2 lime and phosphoric acid fertilizer had a minimal impact on strawberry plant growth and production. Specific combinations, such as calcium chloride and phosphoric acid fertilizer with KCL 7.2 grams and urea 12.5 grams, did not significantly affect vegetative growth parameters like plant height and leaf count. However, these combinations did influence strawberry plant production. The study underscores the need for careful nutrient management to optimize strawberry production in Indonesia.

Abstract

The research aimed to explore the impact of vermicompost fertilizer dosage and application timing on kale (Brassica oleracea var. Acephala) varieties. Conducted in Sukoharjo Village from July to September 2020, the study implemented a Randomized Complete Block Design with two factors: vermicompost dosage (D0: NPK 2 g/plant/untreated, D1: 250 g/plant, D2: 500 g/plant, D3: 750 g/plant) and application time (T1: planting, T2: 7 days after planting, T3: 14 days after planting). Analysis revealed no interaction between dosage and application time. Doses of 250 g (D1), 500 g (D2), and 750 g (D3) significantly differed in plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, leaf area, and fresh and dry weights. Notably, the application time at planting (T1), 7 days after planting (T2), and 14 days after planting (T3) significantly affected leaf number. In conclusion, the study found no interaction effect between vermicompost dosage and application time on kale. Doses of 250 g, 500 g, and 750 g exhibited significant differences, impacting plant growth and dry weight. Application times at planting, 7 days after planting, and 14 days after planting significantly influenced leaf number. These findings emphasize the importance of proper dosage and timing for optimizing kale growth with vermicompost fertilizer, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.
