Abstract

This paper analyzes the effectiveness of the CCT program in the Philippines in terms of its effect on conditionality goods as reflected by food, health, and education expenditures of households from rural and urban areas that benefitted the program. The study used secondary cross-section data and employed the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) methodology in estimating the average treatment effect on the treated. In terms of share to total expenditures, the study finds that CCT has a significant effect on education for household beneficiaries in rural areas and has improved the quality of food consumed by household beneficiaries in urban areas. Also, the study reveals a decrease in the per capita total expenditure and per capita food expenditure of the household beneficiaries in urban areas driven by their improved saving behavior. However, CCT has no significant effect on conditionality goods such as health and education for household beneficiaries in urban areas. For household beneficiaries in rural areas, only the increase in the share of education and carbohydrate foods are significant. Based on the findings of the study, the CCT program, at some point, is effective in meeting its short-term goal, but it must be more targeted in order to improve its impact on other conditionality goods.

Abstract

The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) survey is conducted annually to assess the competitiveness of cities and municipalities based on different indicators. The survey is done with the assistance of the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) consisting of the public and private sectors as well as academia. The College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA) now known as the College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy (CEBA) has been the academic partner of DTI-Lanao del Norte in the annual conduct of the CMCI survey by assisting the 22 municipalities of Lanao del Norte. This study was conducted to assess whether the assistance provided by the academic partner of DTI-LDN has been effective and instrumental in the competitiveness performance based on the LGUs score on the different pillars measured using CMCI criteria designed by the National Competitiveness Bureau. Using the test for difference in means, the results show that there is significant improvement in the LGU overall performance and in terms of economic dynamism, government efficiency, and infrastructure. Using panel analysis, economic dynamism of the municipalities of LDN is significantly driven by government efficiency and infrastructure.

The research method used is quantitative data, namely data obtained in the form of numbers or numbers. Source of data in this research is primary data that are obtained by distributing questionaries to 30 individual taxpayers who work at PT Adam Dani Lestari. The population in this study are 282 employees. The sample in this study used a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of employees having a Taxpayer Identification Number of as many as 30 people. Data analysis using multiple regression analysis method. The results of the analysis give the equation of Taxpayer Compliance = 8.366 + 0.315 Tax Incentives + 1.218 Tax Sanctions + e. The results of this study indicate that Tax Incentives on Taxpayer Compliance, Tax Incentives have no effect and are not significant on Taxpayer Compliance at Individual Taxpayers at PT Adam Dani Lestari based on a partial hypothesis test, namely with tcount < ttable with the sum of 0.095 < 2, 04841 and a significant value > 0.05, with the sum of 0.329 > 0.05. The results of this study indicate that Tax Incentives and Tax Sanctions on Taxpayer Compliance, Tax Sanctions have an effect and are significant on Taxpayer Compliance with Individual Taxpayers at PT Adam Dani Lestari based on simultaneous hypothesis testing, namely with a value of fcount > ftable, namely with the sum of 8.212 > 3.364 and a significant value < 0.005 with the sum of 0.002 > 0.005. The results of this study are supported by the value of R Square (R2) 0.378 or 37.8%, which means that taxpayer compliance can be explained by the variables of tax sanctions and tax incentives. While the remaining 62.2% of the Taxpayer Compliance variable can be explained by other variables not examined in this study, such as Taxpayer Awareness, Tax Audit, Tax Revenue, and Tax Knowledge.

Abstract

As a response against the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), several countries adopted online and modular programs in the educational sector. As these require certain competencies and skills, these changes might have contributed to the stress experienced by the faculty members that could affect their performance. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of occupational stress, measured by the Teacher’s Stress Inventory (TSI), that the faculty members of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) experienced caused by work-family conflict, lack of training, role ambiguity and role conflict, powerlessness, and intrinsic impoverishment. In addition, the impact of occupational stress on the performance of the faculty members during the school year 2020-2021 is assessed. Anchored on Michigan Model and Performance and Demand Theory of Welford, 114 faculty members were selected as respondents using quota sampling, results showed that faculty members experienced slight stress. These are manifested through minimal or low stress as measured by the manifestations of stress namely emotional, biobehavioral, and physiological-fatigue. On the factors influencing occupational stress, only work-family conflict and lack of training influence occupational stress. Since faculty members cannot enter the campus and work on a work-from-home arrangement, the distinction between office hours and free/family time is almost nonexistent. The shift in the learning modality required a new set of competencies (i.e. technology-based skills) but the sudden shift only allowed a short period of time of training. The results on the factors influencing occupational stress are consistent with the Michigan Model but inconsistent with Welford's Performance and Demand Theory; even if the demand during the pandemic has changed, the faculty experienced slight stress and performed excellently in their work.

The Covid-19 pandemic is a threat to various sectors and lines of life, including tourism activities. The decrease in the number of tourists visiting a tourist destination is a logical consequence because of restrictions on community mobility, including recreation and travel. Furthermore, entering a period where the Covid-19 Pandemic has slowed, the number of return visits should increase, tourism actors can take advantage of the potential of tourist attractions to attract tourists. Attractions can be natural, artificial or cultural. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of variable X on variable Y, namely the Covid-19 pandemic and cultural attractiveness on the dependent variable, in this case the number of visitors to the Maimoon Palace in Medan City. Data collection in this study was carried out using a questionnaire instrument with a Likert scale level 5, then testing would be carried out through descriptive analysis, classical assumption test, and hypothesis testing with multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of testing and data analysis, conclusions will then be drawn from the pre-determined hypothesis. The results showed that the Covid-19 pandemic had a negative and significant effect on the number of visitors, while cultural attractiveness had a positive and significant effect on the number of visitors to the Maimoon Palace in Medan City.
