Abstract

This study aims to investigate food habits of the species of tembang fish (Sardinella fimbriata) and the relationship of water quality parameters with the availability of natural food in Labu Beach. The study was done from Juli 2014, in Labu Beach. Fish samples, collected by gill net. Stomach content was analyzed using Index of preponderance. Stomach contents of the fish was consisted of 6 class of food Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Dinophyceae, Crustaceae, fish’s egg and added some unidentified (such as foot and the cutting of insect body). The group of Bacillariophyceae is a main food, Chlorophyceae, Crustaceae and unidentified group is a complement food and than Dinophyceae and fish’s egg as additional food. The natural food has a good correlation with brightness.Keywords: Fish’s intestines contents, Sardinella fimbriata, Labu Beach, Gill Net.

Abstract

Water quality is one of medium for fish farming system. This study aims to determine for growth of catfish (Pangasius sp.) with using water circulation. The component of circulation using filter of sand, fibers, zeolites, activated chalcoal, and water hyacinth (Eicchornia crassipies). The result was showed highter body weight of 6,48 g during at 56 day with water circulation. Compared of body weight non circulation system the result was lowest body weight of 4,95 g.Key Word : Pangasius, Growth, recirculation system, water quality.

Abstract

Argulus sp. are parasites that act as mediators for viruses or bacteria frequentlycausing diseases by leaving a bite scar. This study was aimed to know potential pathogenicbacterial in the internal and external organs of gourami as result of ectoparasites Argulus sp.infestation. Twelve Argulus sp. were infested on gourami for 14 days. The isolation of thebacterial of the gourami and water was conducted using dilution methods. Bacterialcharacteristic was conducted to their morphology and biochemical properties followed byidentification of the bacterial. Two bacterial species were found in the samples of fish andwater, i.e. Corynebacterium aquaticum and Micrococcus luteus.Keywords : Osphronemus gouramy, Argulus sp., Corynebacterium aquaticum,Micrococcus luteus.

Abstract

This study was aimed to know antimicrobial potential of extract of mangosteen rind(Garcinia mangostana) against bacteria Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwardsiella tarda andfungus Saprolegnia sp. and to know the extract toxicity to brine shrimp (Artemia salinaLeach.). Mangosteen rind was extracted using methanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane.Antimicrobial activity test was done using the agar diffusion method. To know thecompounds contained in the extract phytochemical test was conducted. The chemicalcompound test showed that extract of mangosteen rind contains phenolic/tannin/flavonoid,terpen/steroid dan alkaloid. The extracts inhibitated the growth of Aeromonas hydrophila,Edwardsiella tarda and Saprolegnia sp. to some extent. The optimal antimicrobial activitywas obtained from ethyl acetate. The extract showed cytotoxic activity with LC50<1000μg/ml.Keywords : Antimicrobial activity, Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwardsiella tarda, Garciniamangostana, Saprolegnia sp.

Abstract

Increased cultivation of the African catfish, the demand for seedling in the form of seed is also increasing. Therefore, It has to have an availability seeds with good quality and quantity in halls seeding. Giving proper woof can determine the quality and continuity of the fish seed. Increasing growth of the African catfish by giving the combination feed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use combined natural feed of dried sludge worms (Tubifex sp.) with artificial feed of pellets flour to the seed growth of the African catfish (Clarias gariepinus), it sizes 3,32 – 3,40 cm with a weight is 0,37 – 0,38 g were kept in the aquarium measuring 60 × 30 × 30 cm by 15 units with a volume is 20 liters per aquarium and arranged randomly. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with a combination of 100 % pellets flour, 100 % dried sludge worms, 75 % pellets flour + 25 % dried sludge worms, 50 % pellets flour + 50 % dried sludge worms, 25 % pelets flour + 75 % dried sludge worms. Feed given as much as 10 % of the body weight of the fish. The results showed that the good combination for the African catfish growth is 75 % pellets flour + 25 % dried sludge worms, with length and weight growth is 3,51 cm and 1,66 g.Keywords: Clarias gariepinus, Feed, Combination, Growth

Abstract

The bacteria in fish can be found on the surface of body and the digestivetract. Some bacteria in digestive tract contribute to feed digestion by producesenzymes. Probiotics have been used to influences feed digestion and to inhibitionpotential pathogenic bacteria in fish. In this study, isolation of potential probioticbacteria from gourami stomach and intestine and assay of potential probiotic toinhibition Aeromonas hydrophila has been conducted. Bacteria isolation wasconducted using Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA) Media. Starch Agar (SA) and SkimMilk Agar (SMA) media to hydrolyze starch and casein tests. The result showed17 isolates hydrolyzed starch and casein. In addition, the isolates indicated toinhibit A. hydrophila. Morphological and biochemical tests showed 4 isolate ofpotential probiotic bacteria in the stomach and intestine of gourami (Osphronemusgouramy), were Bacillus cereus, Bacillus firmus, Bacillus coagulans, andMicrococcus sp.. Abstract

The river of Batang Gadis is the longest in Mandailing Natal and flows almost over the Mandailing Natal Regency. Starting from Pakantan Muara Sipongi, passing a couple of districts and Subdistrict in Muara Batang Gadis. This research focused on community of makrozoobentos and measurement of physical and chemical factors. The purpose of this research is to know the community of makrozoobenthos in the river of Batang Gadis, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. This research was carried out in May-June 2014. Makrozoobentos retrieval used eckmangrabb and surber net, samples are sorted by using the method of hand sorting. The sample was identified in integrated laboratory USU. Research resulted 4 classes namely Gastropod, Chaetopoda, Insect, and Hirudinae, comprising 13 genera such as Terebia, makrozoobentos, Pila, Goniobasis Sphaerium, Pleurocera, Tryonia, Tubifex, Chironomus, Neophemera, Progompus, Glossiponia, Branchiura and Macromia. The highest density was from the genus of Tarebia with amount of 1259 ind/m2 which was found on the station 3 and the lowest was from the genus Glossiphonia respectively 3 ind/m2 found at station 1. The highest value of diversity (H') in the community makrozoobentos the highes was found in station 2 (Hʹ=1,55) and lowest in the sampling 3 station wish (Hʹ=0,626).Keywords: River of Batang Gadis, Structure Community, Makrozoobentos

Abstract

River Bingai is used variety of human activities that may increase water pollution which effect on the biological, chemical and physical of water. The objective of the research are to determine the macrozoobenthos and its related to chemical and physical parameters. The method used in this research is purposive sampling where river waters Bingai used as a research location. Based on the research was found 3 classes and 7 genusses of macrozoobenthos in waters of River Bingai, West Binjai Subdistrict. The gastropods was the most abundance in the river. Index of species diversity showed lower value that means water quality was moderate. The evenness index and dominan index was coherent to water quality condition.Keyword : Macrozoobenthos Community, Water Quality, River Bingai.

Abstract

Anchovy (Stolephorus spp.) is an abundant fishery resources in the watersof Indonesia. These fish include small pelagic fish. Until now, studies on thepopulation dynamics of anchovy is still low, especially in Belawan waters. Thisstudy aims to determine the aspects of growth and the rate of exploitation ofanchovy. Location of research conducted around Aquatic Belawan. Anchovytaken as much as 0.001% of catches depending on the abundance of each monthby taking 1-month intervals for 12 months. Analysis of data using a supportprogram Ms. Exel and software FISAT II Ver 1.1.0. The results showed that thelength of anchovy were captured during the study ranged 24.5-26.5 mm. Growthtype of anchovy is allometric positive. Factor in the range of conditions0.030396–0.318734. Alleged growth coefficient 0.890/year, maximum length(L∞) 39.18 mm and the theoretical age at the time of the fish length is equal tozero (t0) is -0.60. Total mortality 4.760, mortality catching 3.199 and naturalmortality 1.560. The rate of exploitation is 0.68 who is alleged to have occurredoverexploitation. This information can be used as the basis of the managementalternative arrangements fishing season, restrictions on catches, setting the meshso that the fish remain stable.Keywords: Anchovy, Pattern Growth, Exploitation, Management.

Abstract

Common carp (Cypirinus carpio) is fish consumption. It is a higheconomic value and suitable for cultivationed. This is very popular in Indonesiapeople. The Experimental wer give commercial feed and combinasion with thecorn (Zea mays). Feed this were give 3 times a day, and the corn (Zea mays)weregive for the treatment 1(1%), treatment 2(2%), and treatment 3 (3%, but to thecommercial feed were give 3% for the all treatment. During 3 mounth of thisstudys were used 9 cages,eat 1 cages were put of 50 fish and the results werefound of treatment 3(3%) were to be better than treatment 1 and treatment 2.Body weight of treatment 3 were found of 170 gram, followed treatment 2 of 120gram and treatment 1 of 87 gram. The body length treatment 3 were found of 16 –18 cm, followed treatment 2 of 15 – 17 cm and treatment 1 of 13 – 15 cm.Keyword: Cypirinus carpio,Common carp, Feeding, Zea mays.
