Jurnal Keteknikan Pertanian dengan No. ISSN 2338-8439, pada awalnya bernama Buletin Keteknikan Pertanian, merupakan publikasi resmi Perhimpunan Teknik Pertanian Indonesia (PERTETA) bekerjasama dengan Departemen Teknik Mesin dan Biosistem (TMB) IPB yang terbit pertama kali pada tahun 1984, berkiprah dalam pengembangan ilmu keteknikan untuk pertanian tropika dan lingkungan hayati. Jurnal ini diterbitkan dua kali setahun. Penulis makalah tidak dibatasi pada anggota PERTETA tetapi terbuka bagi masyarakat umum. Lingkup makalah, antara lain: teknik sumberdaya lahan dan air, alat dan mesin budidaya, lingkungan dan bangunan, energi alternatif dan elektrifikasi, ergonomika dan elektronika, teknik pengolahan pangan dan hasil pertanian, manajemen dan sistem informasi. Makalah dikelompokkan dalam invited paper yang menyajikan isu aktual nasional dan internasional, review perkembangan penelitian, atau penerpan ilmu dan teknologi, technical paper hasil penelitian, penerapan, atau diseminasi, serta research methodology berkaitan pengembangan modul, metode, prosedur, program aplikasi, dan lain sebagainya.

Abstract

Abstract One strategy attempts to reduce dependence on primary commodity markets are overseas market expansion and development of secondary products. In the secondary product processing coffee beans is required of supporting equipment to facilitate these efforts. Research Center for Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa has developed coffee bean roaster. However, there are still many people who do not know about the technical aspects of roaster machine type of rotating cylinder so that more people use traditional ways to roast coffee beans. In order for the benefits of this machine is better known society it is necessary to study on the technical aspects. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the technical performance of the coffee beans roaster machine type of rotating cylinder. These include the technical aspects of work capacity of the machine, roasting technical efficiency, fuel requirements, and power requirements of using roaster machine. Research methods are including data collection, calculation and analysis. The results showed that the roaster machine type of a rotating cylinder has capacity of 12.3 kg/hour. Roasting efficiency is 80%. Fuel consumption is 0.6 kg. The calculated amount of the used power of current measurement is the average of 0.616 kW. Abstract

AbstractCommonly the quality of dragon fruit in Indonesia is determined manually by using visual appearances and it gives un-uniformly results caused by human factors and the judgement is not reflected the internal quality of dragon fruit. Destructive method is usually used to determine the internal quality of dragon fruit that is unsuitable for quality control of fresh dragon fruit.  So a non destructive method is required for evaluation the quality of dragon fruit. The objectives of the research were to determine the physico-chemical and ultrasound wave transmission characteristics of super red dragon fruit according to harvesting time, and to study the relationship between ultrasound wave transmission characteristics and physico-chemical characteristics of super red dragon fruit. Super-red dragon fruits were harvested at 30, 32, and 34 days after flower blooms (150 samples) from PT Wahana Cory, Ciapus, Bogor. The results showed that the ultrasound velocity of super red dragon fruit ranged from 614.10 to 680.16  m/s and  the attenuation coefficient were 57.32 to 62.40 Neper per meter. The attenuation coefficient was significantly different according to maturity.  There were significant correlations between ultrasound parameters (velocity and attenuation coefficient) and physico-chemical of super red dragon fruit (firmness, sugar content, total soluble solid, and total acid).Keyword: dragon fruit, attenuation, ultrasound, velocity Diterima: 25 September 2009; Disetujui: 3 Februari 2010

Abstract

AbstractThe research aimed to design a package made of corrugated board for mangosteen packaging; test the compression strength of the packaging; analyze the effect of packaging capacity and fruit packing pattern in the container on some quality parameters after transport, and analyze the economy of the packaging used.The research was conducted in three stages, namely: the measurement of physical and mechanical properties of fruit (Stage I); the packaging design i.e. determining the packaging dimension (Stage II); and packaging design testing (Stage III). Compression and vibration testing were conducted. For the vibration testing, transport simulations were conducted using the vibration simulator of 3.50 Hz and amplitude of 4.61 cm for 3 hours. The packaging was designed with a capacity of 8 kg and 15 kg using two packing pattern, namely the fcc and Jumble. Based on the physical and mechanical properties, optimal packing pattern of 8 kg container was 8, 4, and 4 pieces of fruit for the long x, y, and z direction, respectively, with the density of 62%. Therefore, gave packaging dimension of 39.4 x 21 x 21 cm. For the 15 kg container, the optimal packing pattern was 8, 6 and 5 pieces of fruit for the x, y, and z direction, respectively, with the packing density of 65.6%. Thus, gave dimension of 39.4 x 30 x 25 cm. Based on overall test results, it can be stated that the design packaging capacity of 8 kg with dimension of 39.4 cm x 21 cm x 21 cm and the fcc packing pattern gave the optimal setting for mangosteen transportation.Keywords: packaging design, fcc, jumble, transportation, mangosteenDiterima: 18 September 2009; Disetujui: 25 Februari 2010

Abstract

Abstract This research was designing a unit of biomass stove which was rising heat used on greenhouse effect dryer system. The heat of drying system then utilized to dry seed with a certain Celsius degree; average of 40 oC and constantly due to effect of temperature controller. The result of the designed system indicated that level of castor oil plant drying temperature was 38 - 41 oC. The stove’s efficiency to the heat exchanger had 74.0 % and the efficiency of heat exchanger to the drying system had 57,3 %. The viability testing of castor oil plant seed which had been drying yield 90 % growing showed the ability to reduce dormant. Abstract

AbstractCultivation of tomato plant under hydroponics system in the greenhouse is suitable way to improve fruit quality since it is easier to control environmental parameters. In this system, water and nutrition are two important things for plant to growth. In the tropical area such as Indonesia, air temperature is main constraint in the plant production system. Increasing air temperature inside the greenhouse has positive correlation to the raising temperature of nutrient solution which affected to the ability of the plant to absord the nutrition. The effective way to anticipate increasing of its temperature is by using the cooling system of nutrient solution before circulated to the plant. This paper presented the application of Articificial Neural Network (ANN) to estimate the temperature of nutrient solution which was cooled on day-night time and circulated to the plant. ANN models, called time delay neural network, consist of 3 layers with 4 input nodes and 1 output node. As input model were t (time), Tg(i) (air temperature inside the greenhouse on time i), Tt(i) (temperature of nutrient solution in the tank on time i), Tb(i-1) (temperature of nutrient solution in the plant plots on time i-1) and as output model was Tb(i) (temperature of nutrient solution in the plant plots on time i). Abstract

Abstract The use of camera vision and real-time computation as plant identification tool has become an active research. Application of both methods can not be separated from a pretension that the computation must produce correct results within the specified time interval where the truth of the calculation depends not only on logical truth but also on the time in which results are produced. The purpose of this  study is to identify plants with fractal dimension analysis and the application of parallel computing. Fractal dimension analysis results showed that each plant has a typical Fractal dimension value. Abstract

Abstract Rural areas which have not getting electricity networks provided by Perusahaan Listrik Negara or PLN can consider constructing windmills to generate electricity. In the construction  of these windmills, a special attention should be paid to such factors as topography of the location and wind speed in the site of windmills so that a proper type of windmills that will be used in the area can be decided. Therefore, developing a computer program for selecting the type of windmills used is expected to serve as an input for the development of agricultural technologies that utilize renewable energy. Making the computer program consists of the following steps: making the initial view layout of the program, program scripts, animation, and program evaluation. Making a program design is started by determining the input and output components of the program so as to set the initial view of the program. Based on the formulas used for windmills generating electricity, a computer program to determine the type of windmills was developed by using Visual Basic 6.0. Abstract

AbstractLampung Province is the largest producer of cassava in Indonesia. Cassava has a weakness that is easily damaged and could not be stored longer. To overcome this, there is a need of an effective drying process so that cassava can be processed into other materials of lower power use as well as its economic value. A hybrid drying system is one solution to resolve the issue. The purpose of this research is to study the performance of drying cassava chips by using a hybrid type of dryer rack. The process of drying cassava chips made using a three-stage treatments with three replicates with the input load of 30 kg of cassava chips. The results showed that the pattern of decline in water levels in each treatment is uneven. The time needed to dry cassava chips to reach the water content of 10% - 12% in the drying of materials using sunlight for 18 hours, using electrical energy for 16 hours and use the energy of sunlight and electricity for 12 hours. The higher temperatures produced the shorter the time required in the drying process. Electrical energy required for the drying process using electric energy was 91 440 kJ and drying using electrical energy and sunlight was 68600 kJ.Keywords: cassava chip, drying, dryer hybridDiterima: 13 Maret 2010; Disetujui: 17 Setember 2010

Abstract

AbstractUnmanned tractors, even though it uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to identify the working path, still require an ability to recognize the environment in front of it in order to avoid obstacles thatmay exist. A device that can be used to recognize the environment in front of the tractor and avoid obstacles that may exist, is the camera. However, images captured by the camera need to be processed to detect possible obstacles at the front of the tractor. This study aimed to develop image processing algorithms to detect the possible presence of obstacles on the path to be traversed by an unmanned tractor, and directed the tractor to a safe path by giving the new coordinates when there are obstacles in front of it. Several mage processing techniques such as edge detection, opening and closing, marking free area, and the determination of the coordinates were used for the purpose of directing the path in front of the tractor when there are obstacles that must be avoided.Keywords: image processing, obstacles, unmanned tractor, algorithmsDiterima: 19 April 2010; Disetujui: 18 Oktober 2010

Abstract

Abstract Red Onion is one of prime commodities in Indonesia and the seed production has been efforted for gaining higher quality and healthy seed. Considering this matter, hydrophonic culture in a greenhouse could be applied for this purpose. Micro climate has to be controlled for giving favourable environment for growth of the Red Onion.  Micro climate control in root zone (zone cooling) is an alternative for efficient use of energy in the greenhouse.  Objective of this research was to find nutrient and medium cooling temperature favourable for hydrophonic of Red Onion. The experiment involved 2 factors : cooling temperature (18oC,21oC,24oC, and no cooling) and planting médium (husk charcoal, cocopeat, cocopeat + sand).  The results indicated that use of husk charcoal and cooling at 240C gave highest yield.  The  greatest number of leaves was gain when the cooling temperature was 240C, while the lowest was at 180C. Big size tubers were found when husk charcoal was used as medium while the smallest size tubers when the cocopeat was used. The highest wet weight of tubers were gained when husk charcoal with cooling temperature at 240C, however the cooling temperature has not yet significantly increase the number of tubers. Keywords : zone cooling, hydrophonic, red onion Abstrak Bawang Merah merupakan salah satu komoditas unggulan di Indonesia dan produksi benihnya terus diupayakan untuk mendapatkan benih yang berkualitas dan sehat.  Sehubungan dengan hal ini, budidaya hidroponik dalam suatu rumah kaca dapat diterapkan untuk keperluan tersebut.  Iklim mikro harus dikontrol untuk memberikan lingkungan yang sesuai bagi pertumbuhan Bawang Merah.  Pengontrolan iklim mikro pada zona perakaran (zone cooling) merupakan salah satu alternatif untuk penggunaan energi secara efisien dalam rumah kaca.  Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan nutrisi dan suhu media pendingin yang sesuai untuk budidaya hidropinik Bawang Merah.  Percobaan melibatkan 2 faktor : suhu pendinginan (18oC,21oC,24oC, dan tanpa pendinginan) dan media tanam (arang sekam, cocopeat, dan cocopeat+pasir).  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan arang sekam dan pendinginan pada suhu 24 0C memberikan hasil panen tertinggi.  Jumlah daun terbanyak diperoleh suhu 24 0C, sedangkan jumlah yang paling sedikit diperoleh pada suhu 18 0C.  Umbi ukuran besar diperoleh pada penggunaan arang sekam sebagai medium sedangkan ukuran umbi terkecil diperoleh pada penggunaan cocopeat.  Bobot basah umbi terbesar diperoleh pada penerapan arang sekam dan suhu pendinginan 24 0C, namun suhu pendinginan tersebut belum secara nyata meningkatkan jumlah umbi.
