Abstract

Many species of mosquito were made to bite cat which contain microfilaria of Brugia pahangi in infective stage.Microfilaria will develop to infective stage (L3) in non-cibarial armature mosquitoes and will not in mosquitoes which have cibarial armature. This period depends on the species of mosquitoes. In Armigeres subalbatus we found first, second and third stage larvae on the fourth, sixth and seventh day.Key Words: Brugia pahangi cibarial armature mosquitoes - Armigeres - Mansonia - Anopheles

Abstract

The application of X-rays in the medical field has positive and negative effects. The effects of X-ray radiation to the intrauterine embryo and foetus depend on the period of gestation. In the first trimester the embryo may be resorbed and aborted and may also be born with serious defects. In the late trimester radiation may cause less serious defects and it may disturb the function of organs. Many defects involve nerve names and are associated with symptoms of mental retardation. To prevent radiation exposure to embryo and foetus, it is necessary to observe the "ten -day rule", when X -ray examination is performed. The threshold doses for embryo and foetus are still unknown.Key Words: physical deformity - mental retardation - radiobiology - radiation injury - teratogenic effect

Abstract

Vitamin B12 is an essential factor for DNA synthesis, and it is also needed in the reaction for the production of lipoprotein in myelin sheaths of the nerve system. It is known that vitamin B12 deficiency causes.among others disturbances in the nucleus formation and leads to megaloblastic anemias, with or without disturbances of the peripheral nerve system. Disturbances in the nucleus formation affect cells of tissues which have a relatively rapid turnover such as hemopoiedc precursors in the bone marrow and the mucosal epithelium of the gastrointestinal tract. As the importance of the role of the vitamin in the formation and the development of cells and as the deficiency of the vitamin may initiate a vicious circle which aggravates more and more the deficiency and the defect of the gastrointestinal mucosa, it is very important to cut the circle with, for example, a high dose of parentera I vitamin B12 with sufficient quantity and quality of food.Key Words: gastric intrinsic factor - methylcobalamin - hydroxocobalamin megaloblastic - anemia - vitamin B12

Abstract

This article argues for the existence of racial or even subracial differences in growth rhythm, so that more than one growth standard has to be used for world populations. For Indonesia, the application of a certain percentile of the Harvard—Iowa standard as norm is not recommended because of the different timing of growth spurts and allometry. Before an propriate norm is established, it is suggested to utilize the Chiang Mai growth diagram which in the authors opinion fits the growth pattern in Indonesian children very well.Key Words. growth norm - body height - allometry growth spurt - auxology
