Abstract

This study aims to determine the diversity index of macrozoobenthos and determine the physico-chemical parameters that exist in Way Kalam Waterfall Tourism, South Lampung.   This type of research is descriptive quantitative, sampling was carried out at three research stations including macrozoobenthos samples and measurements of physical and chemical parameters of the waters (temperature, brightness, pH, DO, COD, and BOD) using purposive random sampling technique.  Sampling macrozoobenthos on the bottom of the water using a shovel. The results showed that the obtained macrozoobenthos consisted of 3 phyla, 4 classes, 6 orders, 9 families, and 63 individuals.  The macrozoobenthos diversity index value obtained was in the moderate category. The diversity index value is in the stable community category, and the dominance index is in the low category. The results of the measurement of physical parameters and chemical parameters showed that the waters of the Way Kalam Waterfall tour were not polluted.

Abstract

Pomegranate is a fruit that has medicinal properties, it is proven by antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity. The aim of this study was to determine the best concentration of cytokinins in inducing shoots of black pomegranate seed explants (Punica granatum L.) in vitro. This study used one factorial, namely the addition of various concentrations of TDZ and kinetin. TDZ factor and kinetin with 6 treatment levels, namely 0 mg / L, 0.1 mg / L, 0.2 mg / L, 0.3 mg / L, 0.4 mg / L, and 0.5 mg / L, each treatment was repeated 4 times, for a total of 24 experimental units. The parameters observed included the day when the shoots appeared, the number of leaves, the length of the shoots and the day the leaves were fully open. Observation data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis. The data showed that the cytokinin hormone, both kinetin and TDZ, was not able to significantly induce shoots on black pomegranate seed explants (Punica granatum L.). The hormone kinetin was able to induce shoots on explants of black pomegranate seeds (Punica granatum L.) with the best concentration of 0.4 ppm but the results were not significant. The optimal TDZ concentration in inducing callus appearance was 0.4 ppm with a callus appearance time of 24 DAP.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the top priority countries in efforts to preserve biodiversity because it has the largest biodiversity in the world. Rambut Island Wildlife Reserve is a nature reserve area with a wetland ecosystem type. This study aims to analyze the diversity of bird species in the Pulau Rambut Wildlife Reserve area. This research was conducted in May-July 2021. The method used for this study was a literature study. The diversity of bird species on Rambut Island, Kepulauan Seribu is quite high, as indicated by 24 species of birds. The existence of the activities of the people of Untung Jawa Island is thought to have an influence on the diversity of bird species found on Rambut Island, Kepulauan Seribu. Therefore, the role of BTNLKpS managers is needed to maintain the preservation and diversity of bird species found on Rambut Island, Kepulauan Seribu.

Abstract

Seagrass is a higher plant (Anthophyta) that lives and grows immersed in the marine environment. Seagrass provides important ecosystem services include coastal protection, carbon absorption for climate change mitigation, nutrient storage for eutrophication mitigation and shelter for small fish, and high biodiversity conservation efforts for iconic endangered species. The current lack of global attention, therefore seagrass research is important to increase knowledge on a local and national scale. Given the extent of seagrass beds and the length of Indonesia's coastline which ranges 95,181 km, so it still needs to understand seagrass more deeply, because this is very important for conservation and restoration. The purpose of this review article is to comprehensively review research on seagrass in Indonesia in five years that expected to provide a future perspective for seagrass research in Indonesia. In the publication regarding seagrass studies in Indonesia, there are 7 categories of topics discussed, distribution and biology, plant physiology, microbial ecology, fauna, impacts and potential, carbon absorption, and restoration. In general, the focus on seagrass research in Indonesia includes seagrass species, seagrass communities, nutrient cycles in seagrass ecosystems, physiology, and the impact of pollution on seagrass habitats. The results presented in seagrass research in Indonesia are still quite descriptive and lagging when compared to studies that have been carried out in developed countries. The developed countries have developed new methods for seagrass restoration activities to new knowledge about seagrass genetics that has never been disclosed previously.

Abstract

Light is one of external stimulations affecting the plant’s movements and causing different responses. The time of opening and closing of plant organs caused by light stimulation are different. The aim of this research was to determine the opening and closing time of Portulaca grandiflora’s flower, Sesbania grandiflora’s and Cassia alata’s leaves. The study was conducted in Madiun and Trenggalek, East Java in November 2020 using field survey and observation. The survey was carried out to obtain sample plants, while observations were to observe the opening and closing time of leaves or flower in the sample plants. The observations were carried out at 04.00 to 19.00 every 15 minutes to analyze the time range of opening and closing of flower and leaves. The opening time of Portulaca grandiflora’s flower and the Sesbania grandiflora’s leaves were almost the same, around 09.00 to 10.30. Meanwhile, the Portulaca grandiflora’s flower began to close at almost the same time as the Cassia alata’s leaves, which only 45 minutes of difference (10.45 and 10.00 respectively). The opening and closing of plant organs were influenced by light stimulation with variation time.
