Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS is a deadly disease, which has become a global issue. The age of 15-24 years is the most vulnerable of contracting HIV/AIDS. Increased use of information technology over the past decade may increase the risk of HIV/AIDS, especially for adolescents. This study aims to see the correlation be­tween characteristic, knowledge and the use of information technology with high-risk behavior of HIV/AIDS in Eben Haezar Senior High School students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on Eben Haezar Senior High School students in Manado. Respondents were 97 people, which were taken from 23 classes. Respondents completed a closed, self-administered questionnaire about their knowledge, use of information technology, and high-risk behavior. Results: A total of 50.5% students had poor knowledge about HIV/AIDS, 55.7% stated they frequently use the information technology, and 13.4% students had high-risk behaviors. Chi-square test showed a corre­lation (p < 0.05) between characteristic and high-risk behavior, knowledge and high-risk behavior, and the use of information technology and high-risk behavior. Conclusions: it was found that male students with poor knowledge about HIV/AIDS, and frequent use of information technology are more likely to have a high-risk behavior. Abstract

Background: Universal Precautions are prevention acts that must be done by all of the health workers to prevent the infection spreading from the patients or vice versa. The purpose of this research is to measure the overview of the implementation of universal precaution in Kolongan Community Health Center. Method: The research method is surveillance descriptive research with total sampling method as the sample collecting method. Result: Accumulatively, there were (9.44%) of all the respondents do not always wash their hand appropriately according to the washing hands procedures and indications. For about (10.57%) do not always wear protective items either in cleaning up medical instruments or doing examination to patients. We found out that (13.33%) do not always decontaminate equipments and devices properly before and after using them. Nevertheless, all of the respondents agreed that there are proper needles and sharps disposals, and all of the respondents always dispose all needles and other sharps promptly to each of their disposals. Also, all of the respondents agreed that there are separated disposals for medical and non medical wastes, and all of the respondents always dispose the wastes properly to the separately disposals. Conclusion: in Kolongan Community Health Center, the overview of the implementation of universal precautions is good. Keywords: Universal Precautions, Infection, Kolongan Community Health Center.

Abstract

Family Planning Program is one ofthe government's effortsin thesuppression ofthe populationinIndonesiathroughthe use ofcontraception. One typeof contraception thatattracted manyIndonesian people is contraceptive injection method. Data from Teling Atas Public Health Center also indicate that most widely family planning acceptors use contraceptive injection method. The objective of this research was to obtain the description of the knowledge and attitude of family planning acceptors on the use of injection method at Teling Atas Public Health Center Manado. This was a descriptive study using survey method. Samples taken were the family planning acceptors of injection methodwho visited the family planning clinic of Teling Atas Public Health Center during November-December 2012, which amounted to 50 people. The research instrument used was a questionnaire containing each 10 questions related to knowledge and attitude. Results showed that the knowledge offamily planning acceptorswere 54% goodand 46% less, andthe attitudeof family planning acceptorswere 82% goodand 18% less.Conclusion:Based on the results of this research, the knowledge and attitude of family planning acceptors on the use of injection method is mainly good. Abstract

Background:Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. As known, DHF is still one of the potentially infectious disease that can cause an outbreaks / extraordinary events (KLB). The main vector of dengue is Aedes aegypti were found both in Indonesia and other subtropical countries. One of the ways to prevent this disease is to break the chain of disease transmission by mosquito nest eradication program (PSN).This study aimed to determine the knowledge of the community in the village of Maen About Dengue Fever. Methods: In this study, the method used is the survey method with a descriptive approach. Furthermore, data collected through interviews using questionnaires and measured by using Guttman scale. Numbers of samples is determined by simple random sampling with a sample of 90 households. Results:This study found that over 50% of the responden (72,2%) answered yes. Conclusions: From this study it can be concluded that the knowledge of the people in the village Maen About Dengue Hemorrhagic fever are well-knowledge. Abstract

The successful development of a nation is determined by the availability of qualified human resources and it depends on good nutritional status. The good nutritional status of adolescent was specify by family socioeconomic status, if the condition of the socioeconomic status are good, the better nutritional status. A family’s socioeconomic status is based on parental education, parental occupation and family income. This research has been doing to know the association between family socioeconomic status with nutritional status of adolescents age’s 11 – 15 years old at Child Development Centre (CDC) ID-127 Manado City. The design research is an analytic research with cross sectional approach. There are 90 samples taken from 92 people of total population who are willing to be sampled. Data obtained from direct measurement and interview questionnaire. The anthropometric measurements calculated using z-score and spearman rho for statistical test to prove the hypothesis of this research.The result showed there was no association between family socioeconomic status and nutritional status of adolescents age’s 11 – 15 years old with the value of ρ = 0,083; ρ = 1,00; ρ = 0,455 (ρ > 0,005) are indicated there was no association between parental education, parental occupation and family income with nutritional status of adolescents age’s 11 – 15 years old at Child Development Centre (CDC) ID-127 Manado city. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to measure the overview of the implementation of universal precaution in Kolongan Community Health Center. The research method is surveillance descriptive research with Total Sampling method as the sample collecting method.There are (13.33%) of the respondents do not wash their hands appropriately with soap, (17.78%) do not wash their hands before doing medical examination to patients, (4.44%) do not wash their hands after doing medical examinations to patients, (2.22%) do not wash their hands if skin is contaminated with blood or body fluids, (6.67%) do not wear gloves anytime they may come in contact with blood or body fluids. There were (6.67%) do not always wear gloves when cleaning up blood and body fluids soiled objects and (17.78%) do not always use masks when doing medical examination to tuberculosis or other droplet diseases patients. We found out that (6.67%) and (8.89%) do not always disinfect the medical instruments before and after using and do not always clean up the medical instruments with flowing water and soap before and after using, (24.44%) do not always clean up the medical instruments that may not contaminated with pathogens, such as linen, wheel chairs, infuse pumps before and after using. Nevertheless, all of the respondents agreed that there are proper needles and sharps disposals, and all of the respondents always dispose all needles and other sharps promptly to each of their disposals, all of the respondents agreed that there are separated disposals for medical and non medical wastes, and all of the respondents always dispose the wastes properly to the separately disposals. Abstract

Improvement in working in an industry is barely seperated with computers. The use of computer can cause health problems, and are classified as occupational disease. Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) is the form of occuler and non-occuler that occur after working with computer. According to survey in  America and England, 12.4% and 9% patient with CVS went to Hospital for an eye checked.2 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is one of syndrome that affect hand and has the higher potential to reduce everyday activity.4 The risk of being affected by CTS are more likely 10% for an adult, female has higher potential of being affected by CTS for 3 times more than male.5 This research are meant to analyze CIMB Bank’s worker about the cause of using computer for their health. The design of this research is descriptive and qualitive. The total informan that works using computer are counted as 20 workers. According to the research’s result, not every workers understood the side effect of using computer during work can affect their eyes. The same problem was found on the informan about the effect on using computer for their hand, less than half of the informan has no clue about the cause of using computer for their health. Abstract

Background: Indonesia’s target of clean water usage in 2015 is 68.9% and 63.5% for sanitation, based on the world government’s commitment in Johannesburg on Summit 2002. According to the research by Jimmy Woodcock in 2011, only 20% of Indonesia citizens are having access to the clean water. Method: This research is aimed to know the description of water usage on teenagers in Children Development Center ID-127, Ranomuut District, Manado City. This research is a quantitative research. The population is 90 respondents consist of 41 males and 49 females, where the samples are teenagers in age’s 11-15. The data are presented by using distribution tables. Result: The research shows that 46.7% of teenagers are using water company facilitation as their source for daily needs. About 65.6% are using water filter as their drinking water source and although the 34.4% are using other sources, the water were boiled.. Most of them use the physically qualified water such as no color, no taste, no smell, and only 18.9% having several health complaints after using the water. Conclusion: Raising the awareness of teenagers about the importance of clean water by health promotion and attention from the environment may help in providing the safe and clean water for teenagers.Keywords: community, dengue fever, Knowledge, Maen village.

Abstract

Maintaining cleanliness external genital organs is an early effort maintaining reproductive health. If behavior of External genital organs hygiene is not good, can cause infections of the reproductive organs. In fact the knowledge and awareness of adolescent girls on reproductive health is very low. The research objective was to determine the behavior description of external genital organs hygiene grader X student of SMA Negeri 1 Kawangkoan. This study uses descriptive quantitative cross sectional approach. The research sample was 50 students taken by simple random sampling. Data retrieval is done by filling out the questionnaire and analysised with univariate analysis.   The majority of respondents knowledge fit in either category, that is 32 respondents (64%), while 18 respondents (36%) poor. Good attitude either (54%), and measures either (52%). They should improve hygiene behavior genital organs eksternal. Keywords: behavior, cleanliness external genital organ.

Abstract

Lung Tuberculocis is one of public health problems in the world especially in developing countries including Indonesia. According to a WHO report in 2007, an increase which is quite high which found as many as 9.27 milion new casus (139 per 100.000) and mortality rate of 19.7 per 100.000 population. WHO recommended DOTS strategy (Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course) for lung Tuberculocis cope with minimum recovery target of 85%. This study has done research aims to reveal the Lung Tuberkulocis patients who seek treatment at the health center using DOTS in Bahu Malalayang I period January to December 2012. This study used a retrospective descritptive method with a population of as many as 58 patients. The results of the study in patients with Lung Tuberculocis scorer with male gender (56.90%), the age group 25-49 years (44.22%), BTA Sputum (+) (93.10%) and approximately (91.38%), did not have a history of co-morbidities. Study patients with new cases around (91.38%) and result of patients who recovered (91.38%), and the recovery rate with BTA (+) (94.23%). as well as sputum smear conversion (94.23%).
