Abstract

The Quran has the miracle of each of its dimensions, it can be understood as presented al-Zarkasyī that the Quran was not revealed by accident, by chance, and without specific goals and objectives. Accordingly, any use and wording (lafadz), construction of verses and letters (munāsabah baina al-āyāt wa al-sūrah) and transitional themes contained in, it has the power concept as a kalam intact and coherent (muttasiqāt al-mabānī wa muntadzimāt al-ma’ānī ka al-kalimah al-wāhidah). And the whole Quran is meet that requirement, which consists of 30 chapters, 114 letters, nearly 88,000 words and more than 300,000 letters, as asserted Al-Qurtubi (641) is like a letter that cannot be separated. Thus, the unity of the Quran is happening at all is not as forced, but it can be proved through the relationship between section by section. The birth of the knowledge of the conformity (Munāsabah), originate from the fact that the Quran systematic as contained in Ottoman manuscripts now is not based on chronological descent. That is why there is a difference of opinion among scholars Salaf on the order of letters in the Quran. This paper will address concerns about the chronological arrangement of the Quran

Abstract

Orientalist’s attention against the Quran can be traced since the visit of Peter Venerable, from Cluny, to Toledo in the mid 12th century. He asked some western scholars to produce a series of works that will be a scientific basis for the western intellectual meeting with Islam. Orientalist’s critical study against the Quran is not limited to questioning its authenticity. The issues raised are the classic that is always a matter of the influence of Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and the contents of the Quran. Orintalist then snaring to a naïve assumption that the Quran is the historical product. Orientalist’s biggest mistake was to assume the Quran equal to the bible. When a critical study of the bible to prove some of its contents are not original anymore, so they assumed that a critical assessment of the Quran to prove the same thing. Though, the biblical method proved the originality of the quran. Therefore, their desire to make a critical edition, and restore the text of the Quran is closer to a fantasy rather than a scientific work

Abstract

The Quran is the holy book has been and will always be interpreted over time. Along with the times, today introduced methods of hermeneutics as an alternative instrument to uncover the meaning behind the text of a verse. Hermeneutics, as a method of interpretation, not only looked at text, but also trying to explore the content of its literal sense. Hermeneutics trying to dig meaning by considering the horizons surrounding the text, either horizon authors, readers horizon, and horizon of the text itself. Application of the concept of hermeneutics in interpreting the Quran is againts to the general rules of Islam, hermeneutics relativize boundaries between verses muhkam and mutasyābih, usūl and furu', qaṭ'īyah and ẓanīyah. Abstract

This paper deals with the I’jaz Alquran according to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. It is concluded that Khan toughly emphasized his interpretation concept on rationalism. Khan also applied it for Quranic studies, such as emphasizing on rational and scientific facts that negate several metaphysical and invisible issues contained in Qur’an. Following his view on the prophets’ miracle which is irrational and unacceptable for human mind. Again, the concept of I’jaz Alquran is also one of Khan’s thought on rationality, though he acknowledged the great literary contents of Quran, as well he uncategorized it as a miracle. He then said that God’s challenge human to afford the similar verses to Qur’an is unclassified among I’jaz Qur’an, since God did the similar thing to the book of Torah as well. Unlike the opinion of majority Tafseer scholars, among the Salaf and Khalaf, they viewed that God’s challenge and the Quran high literature are evidence of I’jaz Quran.

Abstract

The Holy Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) by Allah Almighty as a final revelation for the whole of mankind. After the time of the Prophet Mohammed, his fellow scholars began writing commentaries on the holy Quran to understand its meaning and its context. The Mufassireen have concluded that the Quran has two types of verses; Muhkam are verses which are clear and have no dispute as to what they actually mean. Mutashabih are verses which have two or more than two options for the readers to infer their meaning and such verses have been open to debate amongst the Islamic scholars. This paper attempts to provide the correct definitions of Muhkam and Mutashabih verses based on the opinions of the classical and modern scholars. Based on the views of the modern and classical scholars, the researcher discusses the different varieties of these two types of verses and removes any objections and contradictions between the two attempting to clear up any such misconceptions. The philosophical reasoning behind the revelation of Mukham and Mutashabih verses is also tackled within this paper to ensure all areas and opinions are covered, giving an unbiased understanding of the subject
