Abstract

Financial performance holds significant importance for manufacturing firms. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has posed a challenge to their financial performance due to the decline in public purchasing power. This research aims to explore whether the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a reduction in the financial performance of manufacturing firms. To measure financial performance, this study utilizes various financial ratios, such as liquidity, solvency, profitability, and activity. The sample comprises 137 manufacturing firms observed during the period from 2018 to 2021, resulting in 548 data points. The sampling method employed in this research is purposive sampling. The hypothesis is tested using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The findings indicate that the Covid-19 pandemic has indeed had a negative impact on the overall financial performance of manufacturing firms, particularly affecting the variables of profitability and activity. However, the liquidity and solvency of these firms have not experienced a decline. Interestingly, other sectors have responded differently to the Covid-19 pandemic, exhibiting distinct results. The implications of the study suggest that manufacturing firms should focus on enhancing their solvency, profitability, and overall business activities, as these ratios were adversely affected during the pandemic. For investors, it is recommended to consider investing in manufacturing firms within the basic industrial and chemical sectors, as they have demonstrated the ability to generate profits despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

Abstract

The manufacturing sector plays a crucial role in driving the Indonesian economy. This research aims to identify the factors that influence dividend policy in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. These factors include profitability (measured by ROA), capital structure (measured by DER), company size (measured by SIZE), and liquidity (measured by CR). The research follows a causal associative and quantitative approach, utilizing secondary data from financial statements available on the Indonesia Stock Exchange website. The study employed a purposive sampling method to select 76 manufacturing companies that met the criteria. Descriptive analysis and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis were used as the analytical methods. The findings reveal that profitability, company size, and liquidity significantly affect dividend policy, whereas capital structure does not show a significant effect. Consequently, companies are advised to enhance their profitability, liquidity, and performance in terms of company size to provide attractive dividends to their investors.
