Abstract

The Research about library services for people with disabilities is still found rarely, therefore, in this  research  case,  the  researcher  try  to  discuss  the  title  in  order  to  enrich  the  librarianship scientific. This research uses a quantitative approach with the descriptive type. Some findings of the  data  presented  in  this research case  is  about  the  collection,  type  of  service,  the  library manager and  the  library  space of Surabaya’s YPAC.  In Surabaya’s YPAC is available  only  in hard copy collections amounted to approximately 1000-1500 ex, that dominated the collection of fiction  (stories/illustrated  fables).  The  condition  of  most  of  the  collection  is  very  alarming because it was never noticed, classified specifically and many collections are laid out horizontally as  high  book  shelf  height  exceeds  available.  YPAC  library  runs  only  circulation  services manually, and organized by  teachers  who  graduate from educational of  school  for  disabled (SLB). Regarding  the  library  are  in  good  condition  and  clean,  there  are  4  and  3  units  of  rack collection of tables and chairs, but the air circulation is not good because the ventilation system only comes from a window so that the temperature inside the room pretty hot.

Abstract

The  fast  developments  in  information  and  communication  technology  have  rapidly  shaped  and created enormous changes in the way people live and use libraries. The generation who grow in this era is called net generation. Academic libraries, where the majority of the users are the net-generation,  have  started  to  implement  the  concept  of  hybrid  library  as  a  response  of  the technological  advances.  The  trend  of  digital  collections  usage  is  getting  increase,  on  the  other hand,  the  number  of  library  visitor  is  getting  lower  significantly.  The  condition  make  librarians afraid  of  being  abandoned  by  its  users,  whereas  libraries  still  have  many  physical  collections. This paper is written as a result of simple observation in some libraries where the needs of net-generation  has  accommodated.  The  concept  of library  as  place,  and  library  marketing  offer  the solutions to deal with the problem. Libraries can develop and provide some facilities that suitable with  the net-generation  characteristics.  In  addition,  libraries  can  create  some  events  to  promote their services even the collections to attract the users to visit library.

Abstract

Portal Web Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia(PNRI) or Indonesian National Library Web Portal is one of the best resources that support education in Indonesia. With the large collection of librarians, PNRI can reach millions of librarian with various education background and area. To ensure its sustainability, we need to conduct research to know how good is the usability this web portal to the remote user. One of the way is using web usability testing. By using this test, PNRI will get the information about what is needed to be fixed and for the next step it can be used as recommendation in redesigning of the portal. PNRI web portal test will be held using remote usability test method. The research is conducted by combining inquiry with formal usability test, like giving a task to the participant. The sampling method used is random sampling by using 32 participant. Data gathering technique used is using online questionnaire.  The research result shows that: (1) most of the participant get difficulties in finding information about service schedule; (2) most of the participant dissatisfied in interface design and arrangement in the homepage of PNRI portal. This research is intended as the starting research. It needs the next research to deepen and complete the information and research findings, especially about portal efficiency.

Abstract

The usage of web 2.0 has become popular among young people in Indonesia. One of the purpose of using web 2.0 is for promotion in some university libraries. The emerging of the web 2.0 as promotional media is corelating with the development of digital library. The paper aims are (1) to describe the usage of web 2.0 for academic libraries promotion. (2) to describe the information / content of those web 2.0. (3) to describe the promotion activity through web 2.0. This research population is all university libraries in Indonesia, but only 40 university libraries that conduct promotion through web 2.0. The website observation is done between May-July 2013. The research results are (1) the university libraries in Indonesia are use facebook, twitter, and flicker to promote library programs and interaction with users. The web 2.0 consist of information about new book release, user education, general information about library services, and information literacy. (3) some of univerity libraries taking seriously and actively promote their library services, but some of them are don’t use the web 2.0.

Abstract

Many works - works the academic community that has not been published so that the intellectual property  of  an  educational  institution  is  not  widely  known  by  the  general  public.  Institutional repository  created  and  used  to  manage  the  results  of  these  works  that  can  be  accessed  by  all people.  This  study  aimed  to  describe  the  institutional  repository  of  high  perguruang  country  in Java  Timursebagai  container  to  the  intellectual  academic  community  views  of  content,  the software  used  unit  that  houses,  and  ratings  on  Webometrik.  This  study  uses  a  quantitative approach  with  descriptive  methods.  The  population  used  in  this  study  are  all  the  institutional repository of public universities in East Java, which already are online. The sampling technique is the total sampling. The results of this study found that 50% of state universities in East Java has an  IR that can be accessed via the internet, 100% of existing  IR content is scientific output, the software used various existing GDL, DSpace, Eprints and others, and IR state universities in Java East 66.7% was ranked in webometrik.

Abstract

Dewey Decimal Classification is a most popular classification system in the world because of its completeness and most up-to-date. There are many optional number in this classification system, although it rarely to be discussed even it is important to known well about that optional number, especially  for  a  librarian  as  classifier.  This  paper  is  a  literature  study  about  Dewey  Decimal Classification  Edition  23,  to  describe  about  optional  numbers,  particularly  the  number  in relationship with Indonesia’s subject and discipline. This paper is to avoid misunderstanding in interpreted about optional number among librarians, especially for who that does not understand well about optional numbers.
