Abstract

Background of the study: The spread of COVID-19 has an impact on libraries so that services are adjusted. Purposes: This paper aims to share library service activities at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Agriculture during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper describes the state of the library since its closure in March 2020. In addition, this paper provides details on how libraries adapt to online services. Method: This paper describes the various library services at Gadjah Mada University at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Biology and Faculties Agriculture during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of case study research. Data collection was carried out through interviews with 8 librarians and from web pages and social media from four libraries. Findings: Four faculty libraries at UGM have undergone online service transformation and implemented the COVID-19 health protocol. Libraries in the faculty of Political Science and Faculty of Psychology serve online. while libraries in the faculty of biology and faculty of agriculture have physically opened services Conclusion: Libraries have undergone a transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic by relying on online services and implementing health protocol.

Abstract

Background of the study: Information experience is a complex and multidimensional perpspective that sees the relationship between human and information. Purpose: The aim of the research is to understand the experience of person with visual impairment of Braille’iant Indonesia community when they use audiobook as information sources. Method: The research methods used was qualitative method, data collected using interview and informant were recruited through purposive sampling. Findings: Four themes emerged related to the information experience of people with visual impairment when using audiobook. The first theme is motivation which ilustrate the motivation to use audiobook, the second themes is awareness of people with visual impairment to choose information sources. The third one is access contraints that describe how they find obstacle to find the right information sources, the last theme is determining actions of participants to take actions after obtaining information from audiobook. Conclusion: The fourth theme shows information experience influenced by various factors and by the experience audiobook are not the main information sources used by participants.

Abstract

Background of the study: Circular Letter No. 62 of 2020 concerning the Preservation of Covid-19 handling archives is a public policy that needs to be implemented by State Universities as part of government agencies. Purpose: This study aims to explore efforts to implement policies to preserve the records of Covid-19 handling at university and understand the challenges it faces as university that does not have its own Archive yet. Method: This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. There are three informants selected through the purposive sampling method. Informants were selected based on the following criteria: 1) has mandatory duties in archival activities and 2) positioned as an archivist. Research data obtained through interviews and documentation studies Findings: The university efforts in preserving Covid-19 handling archives are carrying out internal communication to preserve archives within the General, increasing archivists’ competencies and knowledge, and conducting from preparation to Covid-19 archives assessment. Related efforts in the organizational structure have not been made because this process takes a long time. The challenges arise from the lack of human resources in every unit of PTN X and the absence of an archival institution which makes it difficult to implement implementation in all units of university Conclusion: The university has made efforts to preserve the handling of Covid-19 within the smaller scope, the General Bureau. For a wider scope, the implementation has not been carried out due to lack of human resources and the absence of university Archive owned by university. Abstract

Background of the study: With the roll out of vaccines in Edo state and the increasing number of cases of infections, it has become imperative to investigate residents’ awareness and perception of the Corona virus vaccine in order to understand the willingness and readiness of the public to accept vaccines in Benin City. Purpose: The study investigates Benin City residents’ awareness and perception of COVID19 vaccination. Method: A descriptive survey was adopted for the research. The study setting is the Benin metropolis. A sample of 400 respondents was drawn randomly from the resident population for the research from three local government areas that make up the Benin metropolis. Findings: The study found that social media is the most important source of awareness on COVID 19 vaccination, the perception of COVID 19 vaccination is poor among Benin city residents, the willingness to participate in the COVID19 vaccination is poor and factors affecting COVID19 vaccinations among Benin city residents are the systems factors of government and the healthcare system and personal doubts about vaccinations Conclusion: It is evident that the poor perception is a stumbling block to the acceptance of the COVID 19 vaccines and may derive attempts to reach herd immunity in Benin City.

Abstract

Background of the study: Archival services are the final stage of records management, if they are based on an archive lifecycle approach. Accessibility aspects need to be studied in an effort to optimize archiving services so that archives can be widely used by the community. Purpose: This paper describes the process of archiving services and the accessibility aspects of archiving services carried out by Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Sleman. Method: This research was a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and literature studies. The data then has been analyzed in the following stages: observing the data, developing general sense, coding, compiling a narrative framework for presenting the results of data interpretation, and interpreting the data using data triangulation techniques. Findings: The accessibility aspect of archiving services at the Sleman Regency Library and Archives Service is viewed from four indicators, namely policies, facilities and infrastructure, service personnel, and archive user satisfaction. In policy indicators, the agency has been guided by legal products that are applied to technical archiving services, both at local and national levels. In terms of facilities and infrastructure indicators, in general, the department has met the minimum standard of availability and condition of archival service facilities and infrastructure. Conclusion: There are limitations in this study, namely the limitations of the analysis of each indicator which does not describe in depth so that archival services in the office are declared affordable. In addition, it is necessary to carry out a critical analysis of the results of the user satisfaction survey, namely through in-depth interview techniques to comprehensively understand the archive service process at the office.

Abstract

Background of study: The village library aims to improve the welfare of the community in the village. This library concept is called social inclusion-based library. Lentera Village Library also participates in efforts to improve the welfare of the people in the Tepi Laut Village through various efforts and activities in the development of the village library and community empowerment. Purpose: to look at the role of the village library in improving welfare literacy for the people in Tepi Laut Air Napal. Method: The research method in this research is using a qualitative approach. The informants in this study consisted of 5 informants, namely the village head, the person in charge of the library, the community, and students. The research was conducted using interviews and observation. Findings: The library in connectivity already has library infrastructure, in content the library has had welfare empowerment collections but it has not been said to be optimal because of the small number. Indicator Human where human resources in library management have not been said to be optimal because they still do not have the right manager. Conclusion: The library has empowered the community in improving literacy in community welfare and several forms of activities. However, it cannot be said to be optimal due to the unavailability of adequate collections and people who do not have the determination to use library services.

Abstract

Background of the study: Technological developments have encouraged the creation of cloud computing technology that allows access to information from everywhere via the internet. The use of cloud computing in managing electronic documents can manage document storage without having storage specialists, reducing the need for physical storage space, and access flexibility. But behind the benefits offered, some risks must be anticipated by the organization. Purpose: This study aims to determine the opportunities and challenges of using cloud computing in electronic document management. Method: This study uses the Systematic Literature Review method on the literature available in the Google Scholar database from 2017 to 2022. Findings: Based on the results of an analysis conducted on 20 selected articles, it was found that the opportunity of cloud computing in electronic document management is to increase efficiency in managing electronic documents, especially in terms of centralized document storage, increasing productivity, and response time of business processes, and cost efficiency. Meanwhile, the challenges are related to data security, system stability, authentication, and disaster preparedness, both from nature and cybercrime. Conclusion: The research recommends that organizations using cloud computing to manage their electronic document must provide compatible and good security systems.

Abstract

Background of the study: Facing the challenges of society 5.0, Pontianak as the city in West Kalimantan has maneuvered by establishing several libraries and parks with reading facilities in the potential areas. Three of them are in the tourist area on the Kapuas riverbank. Communities living around libraries have vulnerability due to environmental, economic, and educational problems. Purpose: To analyze the readiness of the three libraries in building a knowledgeable Kapuas riverbank communities. Method: Descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviewing to 9 informants, and data documentation. Data analysis techniques consisted of data collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Findings: Long Fiah and Benua Melayu Laut Libraries have not yet ready to optimize their role as centers of education and information for communities due to the absence of library staff to manage the library, the difficulties in adding the collections, and the lack of promotion to communities. As a result, communities’ knowledge has not changed significantly. On the other hand, Bahagia Mendawai library has showed its role as a mediator and facilitator for communities to increase their knowledge. Even some innovations to foster a literacy culture can be seen from the Siberliterasi, JeLi, and Literacy Corner programs. Conclusion: As a first step in building a knowledgeable society, it is necessary to start from creating a literacy culture with strategic programs and commitment from library staff such as the literacy innovation program carried out by Bahagia Mendawai library. It is conducted by collaborating, adapting, and involving the community in library activities. The impact will help the community solving the problems. Pontianak will be better prepared to create a smart city with the support of knowledgeable communities.

Abstract

Background of the study: The library is a place for users to find information, as well as a place to improve the intellectual quality of users. Along with changes in learning styles and obtaining changing user information, libraries are required to follow the development and learning styles of users by providing supporting facilities and infrastructure, one of which is napping areas or nap pods. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the importance of implementing a napping area in the library. Method: This study uses qualitative research with a literature study approach that emphasizes the use of reference sources to obtain data from literature. Findings: The results of the study indicate that the provision of a napping area as a temporary resting place for users needs to be facilitated by libraries in universities considering that developed countries have also implemented these facilities. This is done so that users feel comfortable and refreshed to restart their activities in doing academic tasks and improve quality in the world of education. Conclusion: The importance of implementing a napping area in the library can also provide a unique experience and increase the number of visitors who are decreasing day by day, on the other hand it also increases learning commons as an interesting renewal in the library with the existence of a napping area in the library.

Abstract

Background of the Study: History of Indonesian library is less explored field in library studies. Debates on history of Indonesian library seems to be unexplored due to pressure on librarian to adapt with technological changes. It causes development of history of Indonesian library seems stagnant among scholars of library science and librarians. Meanwhile, in the field of history itself, library history is less attractive for historians. The development of historiography since 1980’s is more concerned with social movement history, though library played significant role in the field of education and research in Indonesia. Almost all research centers and universities certainly need library for obtaining references. Purpose: This article observes one of National Library of Indonesia’s rare collection named Berita Pustaka. The collection is a tabloid published by Center Library of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1970’s. Today the collection is still deposited in Rare Newspaper Division, National Library of Indonesia with call number QQ-131. Method: In this article author uses qualitative method along with deep  analysis of Berita Pustaka. Therefore, author also uses historical approach as a methodology in this article. Finding: In addition, the collection also contains information regarding library service for faculty members and students in 1970’s. Conclusion: Author argues that Berita Pustaka is an information source for researching history of Indonesian library, particularly higher education library.
