Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the activities of students who have visual learning style, auditorial, and kinestetik in solving the problem of verbal mathematics.This research is descriptive-qualitative research. Researchers act as the main instrument assisted by interview guides as well as verbal tasks (about the story). The subjects of this study were three students of class VIII-F SMP Negeri 3 Sungguminasa, consisting of one SGBV, SGBA, and SGBK. Data were obtained from job-based interviews. Collected data is analyzed through three stages, namely reviewing data, reducing data, and presenting data. The results of the study generally show: 1) SGBV, SGBA, and SGBK through the three stages of thinking, that is understanding the problem, preparing the settlement plan and carry out the settlement 2) SGBV, SGBA, and SGBK thinking processes tend to be almost the same that is conceptual. 3) The behavior of SGBV, SGBA, and SGBK in solving verbal math problems (SVM) varies

Abstract

The study aims at improving the coerse quality by implementing Reciprocal Teaching model to students of Mathematics Education Department in Christian University of Tentena of academic year 2012/2013. The course using Reciprocal Teaching model implements summarizing strategi, questions, clarifying and predicting. At this cours, students conducted those four strategies in a small group determined by the lecturer. The lecturer acted as the facilitator in this course.Based on the observation by the observer, the lecturer and students’ activities are in goog category; whereas, the result of final test of students is also in good category. Based on those findings, it is concluded that the course procedures of Transformation Geometry by implementing Reciprocal Teaching model are (1) students in group conducted summarizing which summarized the material of LKM, (2) students in group conducted questioning which arranged the questins and answers based on the material of LKM, (3) students in group conducted clarifying which clarified the summary, questions or answer from class presentation, (4) students in group conducted predicting which made prediction concerning Transformation geometry. The implementatin of Reciprocal Teaching model can improve the course and learning outcomes of students. The learning process of students improves from fair category to good category; whereas, students’ learning outcomes improve from 52,38% to 80,95%. Students’ response is stated as positive toward the learning activities which implemented Reciprocal Teaching model because 76% students gave positive response toward 97% of the aspects stated

Abstract

This research is a research development that refers to 4-D development model with stages: (a) define, (b) design stage, (c) development stage, and ( D) dissemination stage. This study aims to produce learning tools involving interpersonal intelligence that includes RPP, LKS and student books. Expert and practitioner validation results show that the student's book is valid () = (4.18), Valid LKS () = (4.18), and RPP is very valid () = (3,62). Furthermore, it is tested in Class IX-6 SMP Negeri 36 Makassar with the following results: (1) learning tools are practical with the criteria of the device fully implemented () = 1.90, (2) learning tools have been effective because it has met 3 of 4 indicators effectiveness , That is: classical thoroughness of learning result test have been reached (88,8%), teacher ability to manage learning is in high category () = (3,48), and student response is in positive category. The results of this study resulted in learning tools of mathematical cooperative setting involving interpersonal intelligence meet the criteria of validity, practicality and effectiveness. It is therefore recommended to the math teacher to implement this device on a wider scope

Abstract

The low result of the assessment of math learning is the impact of teaching and learning process, copy and paste learning tools and also influenced by very limited facilities and infrastructure. To respond to these challenges, the development of STAD type cooperative learning tools is done. The formulation of the problem in this research is how the process and outcomes of STAD type cooperative learning learning tools with a valid, practical, and effective posing problem approach. The purpose of this research is To produce STAD type cooperative learning tool with problem posing approach which valid, practical, and effective. This research is a development research that refers to four D models (Model 4-D). The development process in the first and second phases leads to learning tools (textbooks, learners' activity sheets, lesson plans, and mathematics learning appraisals), development in the third phase of validation and device testing. For the purposes of testing the device is done by following the syntax model of STAD cooperative learning model with problem posing approach. While the fourth phase of socialization to friends of teachers in schools in order to refine the device developed. The subjects of the study were students of SMA Negeri 2 Bantaeng class X1 as many as 34 people. The instruments used include device validation sheet, observation sheet instrument (learning device implementation, student activity, student response questionnaire to learning and mathematics learning appraisal). The instrument, excepting the test, is an instrument that has been used in previous research by Fitriani (2005) but has been modified as an adjustment to the geometric material in this study. The result of the research shows that learning tools developed include Learning Implementation Plan (RPP), Textbook Lesson, Student Activity Sheet, and Mathematics Learning Appraisal after validation and testing are valid, practical, effective and efficient. Used in mathematics learning. Analysis of the assessment of mathematics learning obtained the average score of 81.7 students and 88% of students have achieved the value of KKM in classical. Mathematics learning outcomes of pesetas increased significantly after being taught using STAD type cooperative learning tool with problem posing approach

Abstract

Students' learning ability is crucial to success in the learning process. Factors that influence student learning process include the ability to think logically, readiness to learn, and student participation in learning. This study aims to know and explain how much influence the ability of logical thinking, and readiness to learn the results of mathematics learning through the participation of students in learning in the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri In the District Pitumpanua Wajo. This research is an ex-post facto research that is causality. The population in this research is 362 students of Class VIII SMP Negeri in Pitumpanua Subdistrict Wajo Regency year 2015/2016. The sample of 157 students studied using proportional random sampling. Instruments used consisted of logical thinking ability test, questionnaire of learning readiness, student participation questionnaire in learning, and test of mathematics learning result. Data analysis with descriptive statistics and inferential statistical analysis (path analysis). The result of the research shows that (1) Most of VIII grade students of SMP Negeri in Pitumpanua Subdistrict Wajo have the ability to think logically in learning mathematics with medium category, readiness of student learning in mathematics with enough category ready, student participation in learning in learning mathematics with categoryActive, and the results of learning mathematics with the category of being. (2) The variables that have significant influence that is, the readiness of learning has a direct effect on the learning outcomes, the readiness of learning has a direct effect on the participation of students in learning, the readiness of learning has an indirect effect through the participation of students in the learning, and the participation of the students in the learning directly influence the learning outcomes mathematics. (3) Influence variable is insignificant that is, ability of logical thinking have direct effect to result of learning, logical thinking ability have direct effect to student participation in learning, and ability of logical thinking have an indirect effect to result of learning of mathematics through student participation in learning with level of kesignifikanan

Abstract

This study is research and development to produce learning package by applying cognitive strategy and scientific approach ini solving mathematics problem. The package include: (1) lesson plan, (2) student’s textbook, (3) teacher handbook, and (4) student’s worksheet. The development model used refers to 4-D model of Thiagaranjan, Semmel & Semmel which consists of defening phase, design phase, development phase, and dissemination phase. The study was conducted twice. The first tryout was conducted in grade X IPA 1 at SMAN 1 Bantaeng and the second tryout was conducted in grade X IPA 2 at SMAN 1 Bantaeng. The results obtained in the first tryout was: (1) the learning package is already practical, but still there are some suggestions need to be considered to improve the practicality of the package, (2) the learning package is yet effective because the classical completeness has not been achieved and students activity is not yet appropriate as expected, although the teacher’s ability to manage learning are already in high category and students’ response is already in positive category. The results of these analyzes are used to revise the package prior to the second trial. The results obtained in the second tryout were (1) the package is already practical, (2) the learning package is already effective, because the classical completeness has been reached, student’s activity is suitable as expected, the ability to manage the learning is in high category and students are already in positive category. Therefore, in the second tryout, prototype III was obtained which was valid, practical, and effective and continued with dissemination phase to obtain the final prototype. After 4 phases had been conducted, it is obtained learning package by applying cognitive strategies in solving mathematical problems which is are valid, practical, effective

Abstract

The study aims at (i) describing the logical reasoning of students’ thinking styles as in SK, SA, AK, and AA in solving Mathematics problems at SMPN 2 Pinrang, (ii) production the differences of logical reasoning of those four students with different thinking styles in solving mathematics problems at SMPN 2 Pinrang. The study is a qualitative research. The problems solving used referred to polya’s. In each of problems solving according to Polya, there’s indicator of logical reasoning to be studied. The subjects of the study were taken by employing purposive random sampling technique. Data were collected through interview and written format, which were analyzed using Miles and Huberman model. The credibility of data employed triangulation, observation, and member check. The result of the study describes the logical reasoning of students with different thinking styles. The whole description which contains all components of logical reasoning and connectivity of each element of the profile is described by using tables. The conclusion of the study is obtained in a form of logical reasoning of students who have thinking styles of SK, SA, AK, AA and their differences in solving Mathematics problems at SMPN 2 Pinrang

Abstract

The study aims at examining (1) the difference of learning outcomes in class which used problem-based learning model and cooperative learning model of STAD type, (2) the difference of learning outcomes in class which used problem-based learning model and cooperative learning model of STAD type, (3) the comparison of effectiveness of problem-based learning model and cooperative learning model of STAD type with scientific approach. The study is an experimental research with pretest and posstest control group design using the treatment twice and using the instrument: tests of learning outcomes, student activity sheets observation and questionnaire responses of students. The population of the study was students of class X IPA at SMAN 1 Dupamanua in Pinrang district. The samples were two classes, namely class X IPA 2 as the experiment class I using problem-based learning model and class X IPA 3 as the experiment class II using cooperative learning model of STAD type. Samples were selected by employing random sampling technique. Data of the test of learning outcomes were analyzed by employing on-sample test analysis and independent sample test, and questionnaire was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study revealed the (1) there was significant improvement between the class which used problem-based learning model and cooperative of STAD type indicated by the significant P < 0.05, (2) the learning outcomes used problem-based learning model was higher which was 78 than cooperative learning model of STAD type which was 74. (3) the students gave positive response on the use of problem-based learning model with 17 which gave excellent response and 83% gave good response and 62%  gave good response. The problem-based learning model showed higher result on sequence and series lesson material than cooperative learning model of STAD type

Abstract

This type of research is a classroom action which aims to improve students' skills in solving word problems through the use of media cards and posters for the classroom IV.A SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar. The research was conducted at SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar. The study population was IV.A graders semester of academic year 2012/2013. This data was obtained through observation, and achievement test each end of the cycle. Data analysis is a quantitative and qualitative analysis. The purpose of this study is: (i) to assess the implementation process of learning with the use of media cards and posters in solving word problems in class SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar; (ii) to improve the ability to solve word problems through the use of media cards and posters in elementary grade students SD Inpres Perumnas I Makassar. The results showed that (i) the use of media cards and posters in solving word problems can improve student learning outcomes, (ii) Students' motivation in solving word problems has increased. This is evident from the achievement of the indicators of success in solving word problems. The improvement can be seen from the average value of an evaluation test on the first cycle of 61.14 and the second cycle increased to 75

Abstract

This study was classroom action research conducted in two  cycles with the topic of Quadratic Equations. The subject of this study were all students of class X-4 SMAN 6 Makassar, South Sulawesi Province academic year 2009/2010 second semester, as many as 40 students, consisting of 10 males and 30 females. This research aimed to improve mathematics achievement through the project-based practice with cooperative setting STAD type. Indicators, used in terms of process were ; (1) the improvement of students activities in the process of giving project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type, (2) the increase of teachers’ ability to manage the learning of mathematics through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type, and in terms of outcomes are ; (1) the increased of mathematics achievement through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type, (2) students’ responses toward the learning activities more than 50% students responded positively to at least 70% of the amount aspects, questioned in mathematics learning through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type. The results showeds that through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type can improve mathematics achievement, as indicated by ; (1) through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type can increase students activity in learning mathematics, from the average ideal criteria of 19,6 from the ideal score 100 in cycle I  becomes 21,45 from the ideal score 100 in cycle II, (2) through project-based practises with cooperative setting STAD type can increase the ability to manage mathematics learning from high category with an average of 3,8 from the ideal score of 4,5 in cycle I becomes 3,9 from the ideal score 4,5 in cycle II, (3) through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type can improve students achievement as a result of learning mathematics from the average grade 65,90 from the ideal score of 100 with the completeness percentage of 57,5% in the beginning score becomes 71,73 from the ideal score 100 with the completeness percentage of 80,0% in cycle I and in cycle I becomes 77,25 from the ideal score 100 with percentage of 95,5%, and the standard deviation in the initial score 7,98 the score in cycle I 9,36, the score in cycle II 8,65, and (4) through project-based practices with cooperative setting STAD type can give positive respond toward mathematics learning in quadratic equations as many as 76,75% from 6 items and 20 aspects that are responded
