Abstract

Institute for Research and Community Service Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB) has excellent performance in community service activities (PPM). LPPM IPB since 2009 has conducted various community service activities in rural and urban campus area around of Campus. One of the activities is related with sheep and supporting activities. This assessment activity has two (2) purposes: first, to measure the knowledge of farmers in the application of science and technology especially cage and cultivation that has been given, and the second one, to give appreciation for the achievements of farmers in the management of sheep, especially for the category of healthy and productive cage. This activity was carried out by field visits and interviews using a special form of assessment. 17 breeders were determined based on nonprobability purposive sampling method. The highest value obtained Nurpandi farmer from the Village Sukawening got 920.9 points, while the lowest value obtained Sahedi farmer from the Village Purwasari got 308.3 points. Conclusions from the results obtained showed mostly cage sheep (52.94%) have not yet reached the category of healthy and productive cage (final value of less than 800 points).

Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to develop a Green-Posdaya programe to improve the quality of community empowerment, especially in the fields of economics, education, health, and the environment. The program is implemented in five villages in the District Klapanunggal, Bogor Regency, whose synergy between professional course work (KKP) IPB student partnership programe through CSR activities of PT. Holcim indonesia, Tbk. In the first year has been realized several achievements that are still pioneering activities and mentoring beginning, namely the development of Green-Posdaya, improved management of early childhood education, and strengthening microfinance institutions. It is expected that the activities of the next period, gradually achieved healthier living conditions and welfare of local communities.

Abstract

Development of energy self-sufficient village based on the local resources is purposed to reduce the poverty, to create the job opportunities as well as to substitute the fossil fuels. Energy self-sufficient village is also as sociated with the development of the productive economy. For the areas closed to national park, the development of the productive economy is important because it can reduce community activities for reaching the forest. Lebakpicung is energy self-sufficient village based on microhydro. This village has potency on coffee production. However, only dried coffee beans are produced from this village. The purpose of this community empowerment activity in Energy self-sufficient village was to utilize idle electricity from microhydro during day time as energy resource for coffee processing. This activity was carried out through training activity on the use of coffee processing machinery and packaging technology. The training participants were the community members who has activity on coffee processing.

Abstract

Around the company's operations are often found powerlessness problems of society. The company through the CSR program are required to contribute to addressing the problems, so that potential conflicts can be managed. The program objectives are: designing community development that can become self-sufficient rural development model as a development movement program that can mobilize local resources; promoting independence of society through the productive activities, and develop a model of the institutionalization of the development of self-reliance. The program has been implemented by the PRA method, which location in Subang and Karawang. Programs have been conducted on four target groups, namely mushroom group (10 members), the group of sheep (25 members), food group (35 members), and Assolahiyah group (66 members). Community empowerment program has resulted in innovation, as follows: (1) Zero waste systems in mushroom group, the group has use of straw for mushroom growing media; (2) Processing of various types of food made from mushrooms, such as mushroom noodles and mushroom bread; (3) Utilization of sheep dung into organic fertilizer; (4) Utilization of straw for animal feed; (5) An innovative enclosure design to minimize the smell of dung, environmental pollution, and easy to clean; and (6) The integration of nonformal education with entrepreneurship education. Conclusion: based on the development of group target (independence, participation, and networking), group Assolahiyah is a fastest, and the lowest is food group; and participatory program, is effectively encouraging the growth and development of innovation/new practices which generated by community.

Abstract

Kendel village located in the Kemusu District, Boyolali. Cassava is one of the agricultural products in the region with 2.110 tons harvested cassava to the breadth of 212.4133 ha per year. Cassava plants is favorite plants for the population because it is relatively easy to cultivate and as a management area strategy because of limited water availability on the hilly areas. Up to now, post harvest processing of cassava is still using conventional methods and on sale in the form of raw cassava with its peels, and gaplek (dried cassava). While the cooked one are also served with simple ways, such as boiled cassava, fried cassava, roasted cassava, and lemet cassava. One of the constraints on the creation of cassava processing is limited diversification knowledge of the society Kendel as well as people do not yet understand the fortification of cassava. Close cooperation between Satya Wacana Christian University, Trukajaya Foundation, and Cassava Farmers Group realized empowerment, sortification, post harvest, advanced products, and increasing on economic value. The collabor ation was empowering community by using of participatory rural appraisal (PRA) method. Training have been done on post harvest handling, fortified cassava flour (mocaf), the manufacture of various products of mocaf flour, marketing training for products, monitoring and evaluation of processed products, and networking with other partners to develop programs based on local wisdom potential and organic as well. Various products have been produced from cassava flour fortified, processed products such as brownies, banana cake, cupcake, or cookies. Mocaf fortified flour sales price was Rp 8.000/kg.

Abstract

Sekolah Rimbawan Kecil (Serincil, literally means School of Little Forester) is nonformal conservation education for the children of Muara Kampong, Cibunian Village, Pamijahan Subdistrict, which is located adjacent to area of Gunung Halimun Salak National Park (GHSNP). The community of the kampong, including parents of Serincil children, relied on GHSNP area for their livelihood. Therefore, conservation education was also important for them to reduce their dependence on GHSNP area, and thus optimizing their role in conservation activities. Evaluation showed that the most intensive implementation of optimization subjects by the community was the one most suitable with their everyday life (dapur hidup/vegetable farming), while quite intensive on cattle health, and less intensive on poultry farming. Forest tree nursery should be a main priority to establish intensive cooperation between the community and GHSNP management.

Abstract

Most of agricultural lands in Pasir Eurih Village are paddy field simple irrigation system, while most of them in Sukajadi Village are upland. Farmers in both villages are used to composting organic residues, but the composts was not used maximally. The aim of the IbM activities was: (1) To guide our partners to produce better quality of composts sustainable; and(2) To motivate the community of peasant  using composts for their farm. The best compost resulted by IbM-3 guidance was made from rice straw, leaf litter, and chicken manure mixed with rice husk as their bedding by ratio of 3:2:1:1. This compost contained macronutrients (N, 0.56%, P2O5  1.09%, K2O 1.44%, Ca 5.72%, Mg 0.43%, and Na 0.08% respectively), micronutrients Fe 5.309 ppm, Mn 342 ppm, Cu 42 ppm, Zn 69 ppm, and B 33 ppm respectively), and heavy metals of Pb was 4.8 ppm and Cd 0.04 ppm. The addition of 3-4 ton/ha of this compost into paddy soil could reduce chemical fertilizers up to 50%. The addition of 3 ton/ha of this compost to upland soil planted by sweet corn produce same with application of chicken manure bedding or goat manure. Socialization of the benefit of using compost in increasing the soil fertility and crop yield have raised the peasant’s knowledge. It was showed by the mean value of this post test raised 19.67 points for fertilizer and soil fertility matter and 16.63 points for organic materials or natural fertilizers matter.

Abstract

Looking by the lack of information about medicinal plants and not good enough effort by the member of PKK in optimizing swamedication with medicinal plants, IbM held three types of training about swamedication using medicinal plants and monitoring the program. The purpose of this program is to improve the skills and knowledge of every member of PKK about medicial plants, grow the plants at limited space and gain the benefits from medicinal plants for inhabitant. The first training was about improving knowledge about medicinal plants and distribute seedling of medicinal plants which can plant at house yards. The second training was about production techniques of fourinds traditional medicine: jamu beras kencur, kunyit asam, galohgor and instant type of beras kencur. The last training was about techniques for organic compost from household waste. Process of evaluating and monitoring held after all the training done, then there was interview session and held a competition of producing jamu. The evaluation shows there was some improvement in consumption of beras kencur and kunyit asam families and inhabitant. Also, there was indication of transferred information from aenoughtrained member to not-trained member in informal ways. Overall, all of the programs has done with good achievement. This programs already made a significant improvement in public information about medicinal plants.

Abstract

The objectives of community development activity are: 1) Increase the capacity of sweet potato chips business groups; 2) Improving the quality and diversification of products sweet potato; and 3) Improvement of product packaging sweet potato chips. This activity is applied at Petir Village, Darmaga Subdistrict and Cihideung Ilir Village, Ciampea Subdistrict, Bogor Regency. The methods are problem analysis group activities, training, and mentoring. Based on results of discussion the enchancement of group members capacity do by training. Training can improve the ability of businessmen amounted to 18.6% through pre-test and post-test. Improving the quality do by repairs the production process, especially in the process of slicing and frying. Increased marketing do by improved packaging and gain PIRT license.

Abstract

The reliable paddy field infrastructure required to boost agricultural production needs. These requirements should be planned as an opportunity increasing farmer’s income to alleviate poverty and to achieve food security in national level. Farm infrastructure covers farm road, irrigation, and drainage in the existing irrigated paddy field. The existing farm infrastructure only have limited farm road, unstable irrigation canal, and without proper drainage system. For the sustainability of irrigated existence of paddy field infrastructure the needs and level of technology needed to consider the farmers opinion, so they can improve the existing agricultural infrastructure. The purpose of this activity are to reviewing the farmers perceptions about the needs of farmers irrigation infrastructure on paddy field with the way do focus group discussion (FGD). By conducting FGD in the irrigated paddy fields, farmers in Cianjur agree to adopt facilities of farm infrastructure. The results showed that farmers need farm roads, irrigation pipes, and the arrangement of paddy fields to be more organized and easier to do activity of farming. To infrastructure development of farming, the farmers agreed to build farm roads by utilizing the existing chanel kuarter and changing the ground channels of quarter with irrigation pipes.
