Abstract

This study aimed to compare the blood cholesterol profile, before and after the measurement of maximum aerobic capacity (VO2max) in the students of Sports and Healthy Department (JPOK) FKIP UNLAM. Variables in this study consist of lipid profiles, including total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglyceride and VO2max. Operationally, VO2max referred in this study is the maximum volume of oxygen that can be consumed per minute, as measured at progressive run (Bleep Test). The method used in this study is pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The study showed that there are changes in blood cholesterol profile after the measurement of VO2max, shown by significant decrease of total cholesterol variable, increased HDL, and decreased LDL. Changes in triglyceride variable showed no significant decrease despite the statistic differences. Specific HDL sub-class increasing after exercise is a constructive lipoprotein sub-class whereas LDL is destructive lipoproteins sub-class that might damage the body. Therefore, an increase in HDL and decrease in LDL found in this study appears to be advantageous and consequently might alter the risk of coronary heart disease.

Abstract

This research aimed at describing the effect sizes (ESs) of instructional strategies on student achievement in physics viewed from kinds of instructional strategies and levels of education. The phases in this research included: study acquisition, study selection, and conducting the analyses. This research included 23 primary studies that have generated 29 sub-studies as the research subjects. The analysis revealed: (a) the mean of ESs of the eight kinds of instructional strategies were in big category, the five kinds were in moderate category, and the two kinds were in small category, (b) the mean of ESs at levels of junior high school and university were in big category, while at senior high school the mean of ES was in moderate category. The results from this meta-analysis support the effectiveness of non-conventional instructional strategies in physics and have generated a big impact on grand mean of the ES that was found to be 1.020.

Abstract

Research on improving student learning outcomes using concept mapping  strategy  on  hydrocarbon  material  in  class  X-1  SMAN  10 Banjarmasin has been implemented. This  research  aims  to (1) know  teacher’s and students’ activities, (2) improve learning outcomes (3) study students response to concept mapping strategy on hydrocarbon material. This research used classroom action research design, with 2 cycles. Subjects of this research were students of class X-1 in SMAN 10 Banjarmasin. Data were obtained from assessment of teacher activity, student activity, cognitive tests and questionnaire  responses. The results showed that the use of map concept strategy increased: (1) teacher activities, from good criteria in the first cycle to very good criteria in the second cycle, (2) students’ activities from good criteria in the first cycle to  very good criteria  in  the  second  cycle,  (3) students outcomes increased from   63.28% in the first cycle to 81.21% in the second cycle; (4) Learning using  map concept received a positive response from the students.

Abstract

The research has the objective to evaluate the implimentation of KTSP at vocational school in Yogyakarta. The research result says that (1) the implimentation achievement of variable descriptive test result relating content context and the implimentation of education policy with the score 64.51% is categorized sufficient, (2) the support of school to the implimentation of KTSP with the score 75.69% is categorized good, (3) the implimentation of readiness of school program and school resources with the score 80.58% is categorized good, (4) the implimentation of process involving teachers and students is categorized good, (5) and the problem in implimenting KTSP is fund, facilities, and the lack of knowledge about KTSP for vocational school.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to need analyze in learning chemistry, which will be used in developing teaching material and assessment of metacognitive in chemistry problems. This research is first step in Research and Development (Research and Development). The population involved all the Senior High Schools Students on Banjarmasin conducting Curriculum 2013. The samples were determined by purposive sampling, considering the acreditation status of each school. The samples are 4 schools (n = 272 students and  n = 12 teachers) were enrolled in Banjarmasin Grade 11 chemistry classes. The data were collected by instrument test, check list, observation guide, interview guide and questionnaire; and analyzed by descriptive. The result showed that: (1) Average students academic achievement is under 60% and Their metacognitive abilities are still developing catagories (2) The schools management is fully supported for teaching and learning chemistry, but limited in inadequacy equipments and chemicals, and low of skills of laboratory assistant, (3) the teachers experience some obstacles for teching and learning chemistry, i.e. limitation of laboratory room and its facilities, inadequacy equipments and chemicals, and the teachers psychological factor which was unsatisfied that learning process without fully information,  (4) The students and teachers need teaching material and assessment of metacognitive.

Abstract

It is commonly believed that learning language is also understood as learning culture. This means that when somebody learns a new language, say for example, English, he or she will automatically also learn English culture. In some cases, this belief may be true. In other cases, however, the direction of learning language and culture is not always linear. A sentence produced by a language learner may linguistically and culturally be correct for the other learners of the same language background, but when it is spoken to someone else of different language background it might cause misunderstanding. This misunderstanding occurs not because of the words used in the sentence are weird or the grammar applied is violating the rule of English language system, but it is because of the utterance is not culturally accepted.  It is this difference of culture that causes such kind of  misunderstanding. To this phenomenon the teaching of literature is assumed to be able to minimize this misunderstanding.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe (1) the approach of supervision used by superintendent, (2) the level of working maturity of the Senior High School teachers in Banjarmasin, (3) the relevance of supervision approach used by superintendent, (4) the implementation of Senior High School teachers task in Banjarmasin, (5) the relationship between supervision approach used by superintendent and teachers tasks in Banjarmasin. The population of the study was a whole high school teachers in the city of Banjarmasin, while the sample is selected 186 teachers, with the characteristic of heve been working for over five years and have received supervision from the superintendent. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques and simple correlation with point biserial correlation.The results showed: (1) non dorective is the most supervision approach used by superintendent, (2) the level of working maturity of high school teachers in Banjarmasin classified as very mature, (3) supervision approach used by superintendent in accordance with the level of working maturity of teachers who received supervision, (4) the implementation of teachers tasks are classified as good, (5) there is a positive and significant relationship between supervision approach used by the superintendent and teachers’ teaching duties.

Abstract

This research aims to develop the scientific skill in making argumentation by guided inquiry model in two aspects: (1) to describe the argumentation skill in physics learning, (2) to describe the implimentation of physics learning by guided inquiry model. This research design is one group pretest posttest design. The subject research is the eleventh grade students of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in 21 students and Phyisics teachers of eleventh grade.  The data collection is argumentation test and observation sheet. The analysis technique is gain score, percetage, and reliability. The research result states that the guided inquiry model is effective to increase the argumentation skill in Physics learning.

Abstract

This paper is the result of the Classroom Action Research based on the problems faced in the Population Introduction class of Sociology Education Program FKIP UNLAM.  It is studied in this paper wether the Contekstual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach can improve the analytical skills of students in the classroom? Can students master the material properly after following Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach? How do student perceptions and impression about the Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL) approach? The method of the study is class action research. It uses qualitative methods approach. The research carried out in 2 cycles consists of four stages of action research, namely: the action planning phase, implementation phase of the action, the stage of observation, and reflection phases. The study finds that CTL approach can improve the students analytical skills and receive positive response from the students.

Abstract

It has been conducted the class action research that aims to improve students ability in solving problems based on cognitive style, social interaction, understanding of concepts, and the psychomotor skills by using models of Problem Based Learning (PBL). This classroom action research conducted  by using 2 cycles. The subjects were 33 of eleventh grade students of  the Nurses Health Program of SMK 1 Murung Pudak Tabalong. The research instruments were observation sheet of teachers and students activities, responses questionnaire, students assessment, problem solving skills asessment, social interaction skills assessment and psychomotor skills assessment. The result showed that the application of PBL (1) improve students ability to solve the problem on the competence of waste treatment (2) improve student social interaction (3) enhance the students understanding of the material waste processing. (4) psychomotor skills of students in carrying out the experiment reached the category of "good" to "very good". (5) get the "positive" response from students (6) students with cognitive styles FI increased better at all the aspects compared to students with cognitive style F intermediates and FD. Students with cognitive styles FI solve problems analytically, detailed, independent, and think more critically, while students with cognitive style FD resolve the issue globally.
