Abstract

Political risk is a risk that occurs due to political disturbances in a country that can affect its economy. This risk is one of the risks that investors consider when investing in a country. High political risks can create obstacles that potentially disrupt investors' business operations. This study aims to see the impact of political risk on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the ASEAN region in 1996-2019 using panel data analysis with the best model, namely the fixed effect model (FEM). Sources of data in this study came from the World Governance Indicator (WGI) and World Development Indicator (WDI). The results of this study indicate that political risk as reflected in political stability and regulatory quality has a significant influence on FDI inflows in the ASEAN region. Political instability could make investors reluctant to invest in the country due to the concern about disturbances that will occur in the future. The role of governments in ASEAN countries is needed to maintain political stability and attract more foreign investors to invest in the ASEAN region. In addition, a country needs to have good regulatory quality so that investors do not experience obstacles in the early stages of investment. Complicated licensing and many regulations can be one of the obstacles in investing.

Abstract

Youth unemployment is a contemporary socioeconomic problem in many countries. Although it is a negative phenomenon, this number can be translated into different perspectives as it offers plenty of available job force not only in terms of age and easily adaptable workers but also opportunities for low-wage workers. Unfortunately, despite having a high Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and economic growth rate, Indonesia still suffers from the youth unemployment problem. The research observed a relationship between youth unemployment and FDI in the case of Indonesia from 1991 until 2019. Because of a different situation faced by female and male workers, the research also extended the impact of FDI into gender-specific effects. Data were from World Development Indicator (WDI) in 1991-2019. The short- and long-run situations were analyzed using the Auto-Regressive-Distribution-Lag (ARDL) technique. Based on the findings, it is found that in the short run, FDI can increase youth unemployment in Indonesia. This situation can be due to the reallocation industry, which requires workers’ adjustment. However, in the long run, FDI significantly reduces youth unemployment. Therefore, it concludes that FDI in Indonesia can provide employment opportunities for young people. Next, FDI is found to have a negative and significant effect on female youth unemployment. Meanwhile, there is no significant effect found in male youth unemployment.

Abstract

Rattan is a non-wood raw material originating from Indonesia which has become the main source of income for community forests and local governments. Rattan processing has challenges in obtaining raw materials and skilled processing techniques by workers or human resources in order to produce quality output which of course can also advance the company. The use of machines and human resources in the rattan production process can increase production speed and accuracy. This research was conducted to determine the performance of human resources which influences the quality of the rattan products produced. The research method used in this research is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive approach and has an exploratory nature. The data collection technique in the research was carried out by creating an inductive scheme to make it easier for researchers to carry out research analysis and based on existing case studies. Observations were carried out by researchers regarding activities that occurred in the company during the researcher's internship period. The research object of rattan processing and human resources is information from the UD company. Alam Sultra's work. The research results show that the company UD. Karya Alam Sultra carries out empowerment by providing skills and training to its workers to improve the quality of employee performance in processing rattan so that it can become good quality rattan. This proves that there is empowerment in the processing of rattan raw materials, enabling the performance skills of human resources to increase efficiency and innovation in the processing of rattan products and produce quality rattan.

Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country that has two-thirds of its ocean area larger than its land area and has 17,500 islands along 108,000 km of coastline. Indonesia's oceans provide a source of economic income that can support economic activities every year. The Blue Economy is aligned to increasing marine economic activities without destroying the ecosystem and preserving marine resources in a sustainable manner. The research carried out was to analyze the influence of caught fish and fish cultivation on economic growth in East Java. Researchers use multiple linear regression analysis with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method and secondary data types in the form of numerical numbers which will be processed using Statistical Tests in Eviews software. The time series data used comes from the official BPS (Central Statistics Agency) website for 5 years. The results of the research show that captured fish production and fish cultivation have a significant and significant impact on economic growth in East Java. Fish Catching and Fish Cultivation will have an even greater impact if the East Java Government increases new innovations such as implementing the Blue Economy on every coast where Fish Catching and Fish Cultivation occurs in East Java.

Abstract

Economic growth is a benchmark for the success of a country's economic development. Economic development in a region is seen from several economic indicators such as per capita consumption, government spending, domestic investment, and business sector GDP. Deforestation is a phenomenon that is of global concern because of its harmful impact on the sustainability of human civilization on earth. The correlation between economic growth and deforestation has been confirmed, but there is still a lack of understanding of the factors and mechanisms underlying this relationship. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between consumption, spending, investment and business GDP on deforestation in Indonesia. This research method uses a quantitative approach. The data used in this research is secondary data, regarding the variables used in this research, specifically: area of deforestation, average per capita consumption, government spending, gross domestic product (GDP) of business fields, and domestic government investment. The research results show that simultaneously consumption, government spending, investment and business GDP have a significant effect on deforestation, partially, consumption and business GDP have a significant effect on deforestation, while government spending and investment have no significant effect on deforestation. The government should encourage sustainable consumption patterns, for example through public awareness campaigns. The government can also consolidate aspects of sustainable environmental protection and empowerment in development plans and APBN/APBD as well as strengthen regulations and supervision of investment sectors that have the potential to cause deforestation.
