Abstract

This paper studies Qur’anic verses being the sabab al-wurud of hadiths (verses that became the background or accompany the birth of certain hadith reports). Examining hadith literatures, this paper argues that such existing connection between the Qur’an and hadith emphasizes the central position of the Prophet as the “exegete” of the Qur’an, e it in the form of sayings, actions or affirmation. The records can be traced in commentaries of the Qur’an (tafsir bi al-ma’thur), hadith literatures and sira. Tulisan ini bermaksud melakukan eksplorasi terhadap ayat-ayat al-Qur’an yang menjadi asba>b wuru>d al-h{adi>s\ atau ayat-ayat al-Qur’an yang menjadi bagian yang melatarbelakangi atau mengiringi lahirnya hadis Nabi Saw. Berdasarkan penelusuran terhadap berbagai literatur, dapat disimpulkan bahwa –di satu sisi- ayat al-Qur’an yang menjadi asba>b wuru>d merupakan satu hal yang tidak bisa dipungkiri, dan di sisi lain kenyataan ini semakin mempertegas poisis Nabi sebagai penjelas terhadap ayat-ayat al-Qur’an; penjelasan tersebut bisa berupa kata-kata, perbuatan atau contoh perilaku ataupun ketetapan. Penjelasan-penjelasan Nabi terhadap ayat-ayat al-Qur’an tersebut atau ayat-ayat al-Qur’an yang menjadi salah satu asba>b wuru>d hadis bisa dilacak dalam berbagai literatur, terutama literatur tafsir bi al-ma’s\u>r, hadis dan sejarah.Kata kunci: asba>b wuru>d, ayat-ayat al-Qur’an, hadis.

Abstract

This paper explains the trends and implications of understanding religious texts through hadith memes prohibiting women from traveling without a mahram. Using a discourse-genealogical approach, a qualitative type of study and descriptive, semiotic and intertextual analysis models, this study shows that the relevance of hadith existence in memes goes hand in hand with efforts to reactualize the Prophet's message. Hadith memes are positioned as a shari'ah as well as psychological control over the audience to carry out the message of the hadith in the contemporary context. Moreover, the mediatization of the hadith shows one main tendency: strengthening translationistic logic in the discourse of understanding religious texts. Furthermore, this understanding is also trapped in patriarchal logic, which automatically triggers the appearence of more complex criticism and debate from experts.

Abstract

This article is based on the Ayat-Ayat Semes ta dan Nalar Ayat-ayat Semesta written by Agus Purwanto and Tafsir 'Ilmi: Animals in the Perspective of the Qur'an and Science published by Lembaga Pentashih Mushaf al-Qur'an (LPMQ) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia in collaboration with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences with a focus on the interpretation of the word "Ant" or al-namlah in QS. al-Naml [27]: 18. Preliminary findings show that the interpretations of Puwanto and LPMQ tend to be different even though they are both based on scientific reasons. There are three questions asked in explaining this. First, what is the construction of Agus Purwanto and LPMQ's interpretation of "Ants" in the Qur'an. Second, why do the two differ in interpretation regarding the theme? Third, what are the implications of these different interpretations on the discourse of ilmi interpretation. This article uses content analysis to show Purwanto's interpretive construction of the diction "Qā lat namlah" in QS. al-Naml [27]:18 means "queen of ants," while LPMQ means "al-namlah" with "an ant," so it has a different meaning. This difference lies in the emphasis of both;  Purwanto emphasizes more linguistic aspects as a support for scientific findings to interpret  "al-namlah" with the queen ant, which also emphasizes that this queen is the leader in the colony. At the same time, LPMQ uses an interpretive logic that does not emphasize "who rules the ants"  These two models of interpretation must be positioned as part of an evolving dynamic of interpretation; Moreover, it is recognized that the same discourse also appeared in explanation in the past although it was more on theological and linguistic aspects.

Abstract

Tafsīr al-Jalālai, likeTafsīral-Maḥallī andas-Suyūṭī, has not been created from a vacuum, but from a specific context of social reality which is laden with certain ideologies. The questionsthat follow then are how al-Maḥallī and as-Suyūṭīhave put their own ideological genre into Tafsīr al-Jalālain when interpreting al-Qur’an and how this ideological preference in turn brings about theoretical implications for tafsīr bi al-ma’sūr? This paper adopts the perspective of constructionism and that of literature study. The primary data were Tafsīr al-Jalālain, which were analysed by means of intertextuality. The main findings revealed that Sunah in the Tafsīr al- Jalālain have been selected and sorted out in accordance with an ideological genre of Syafii. Building on these observations, we concluded that the existence of SunahNabi which are part of tafsīr bi al-ma‘ṡūr(an-Naql), despite being hailed as the most authoritative interpretation of al-Qur’an, tends to be biased and, therefore, its generalizability should be interpreted with caution. We suggested that there should be a more specific terminology in between al-Qur’an that is interpreted by Nabi himself (i.e., at-Tafsīr an-Nabawī), which tends to be neutral, and al-Qur’an that is interpreted by scholars through the lens of SunahNabi (at-Tafsīr bi as-Sunnah an- Nabawiyyah), which is undoubtedlyvulnerable to the interest of these scholars

Abstract

This article departs from the reality of the presence of an audiovisual interpretation, "Lebah menurut al- Qur‟an dan Sains" by the Lembaga Pentashihan Mushaf al-Qur‟an (Pentashihan Mushaf al-Qur'an Institute) of the Ministry of Religion in Indonesia have never been reviewed. In fact, with this interpretation, Pentashihan Mushaf al-Qur'an Institute has produced and translated scientific interpretations of waf which are actually still polemic in the midst of observers of the study of the Quran. So, the question to be answered in this study is: "What is the social dimension in the audiovisual interpretation “Lebah menurut al-Qur‟an dan Sains?" This article is qualitative study with a type of literature study; a complete video containing documentation with primary material "Lebah menurut al-Qur‟an dan Sains” and supported with other written materials. This article shows two main things about the scientific interpretation of the discourse through video 'Lebah menurut al-Qur‟an dan Sains, "by Pentashihan Mushaf al-Qur'an Institute so that it was not immediately accepted, firstly, by its role as an institution that has relations and the legitimacy of forces under the protection of state institutions. Second, the position held by Pentashihan Mushaf al-Qur'an Institute is strengthened with the reality others they have asked for more to facilitate discourse for audiences; access with the support of important figures in and fully supported by access to support the sophistication of technology and information.

Abstract

Hijab Alila's account is one of the online media that actively interprets the of the Qur'an in an audiovisual. One form of interpretation is the discourse of religious tolerance which is correlated with QS. al-Kafirun. However, in general, this interpretation cannot be separated from certain interests. This study is intended to explore these interests. By using van Dijk's critical discourse analysis approach which focuses on the social dimension, this research finds: first, the interpretation of Alila's Hijab account on QS. al-Kafirun as part of the discourse on religious tolerance tends to be only translating and seems simplification of something that is in fact complex. Second, Hijab Alila has a power relationship that is able to influence the production of netizens' interpretations regarding the discourse of religious tolerance, through the interpretation of QS. the al-Kafirun. More than that, this cannot be separated from the figure of Felix Siauw as an ustaz or activist of the Indonesian Hizbut Tahrir movement. As a result, Hijab Alila is able to control the condition of the netizens' beliefs, mentality, behavior and knowledge. Third, social media makes it easier for Hijab Alila to gain access to influence. In this case, it uses followers as an ideological mouthpiece. These followers will re-share Alila's Hijab uploads on their social media networks.

Abstract

Iftirāq hadith creates its own problems. The hadith is used as a tool that triggers internal religious conflicts, truth claims, and stereotypes, and so on. Moreover, the hadith is also found in Sunan Abū Dāwūd, Sunan al-Tirmiżī, and Sunan Ibn Mājah; three authoritative sunan in hadith scholarship. It is important to look at this from the most basic aspect, namely how sources of transmission, networks, and socio-political-cultural contexts surround the existence of the iftirāq hadith. This study uses the three Sunan as primary data; in tracing the related hadiths, this study uses the takhrīj method; supported by other relevant data; all of these data were analyzed by descriptive and socio-historical methods. This study also has three main findings. First, the iftirāq hadith networks in the three Sunans tend to be diverse, although one of the three networks is correlated with the same narrator, namely, Abū Hurairah. Second, the source of iftirāq hadith transmission cannot be separated from the riḥlah tradition that existed at that time; this allowed all three to meet the narrators of the hadith. Third, the existence of the iftirāq hadith cannot be separated from the context at that time which tended to be conflicted; from the interests of confirming identity to the struggle for authority between religious groups.

Abstract

This article examines the widespread publication of Juz 'Amma for children, highlighting the lack of extensive research on this topic. It focuses on three main areas: authorship, presentation, and approach. Using a historical-analytical approach, the study analyses 11 Juz 'Amma publications for children in Indonesia from 2020–2024, revealing that writers or illustrators with limited authority often collaborated to create these publications. In terms of presentation and writing, most use detailed explanations and popular, non-scientific language, with only two offering more general explanations. Methodologically, nine of the publications use visuals to explain words (kata), verses (ayat), or chapters (surah), while the rest use scientific methods. The interpretations mainly feature social, educational, and scientific nuances. Although they often employ a contextual approach, they sometimes revert to textual reasoning. These findings highlight the impact of information technology on the latest interpretations of Juz 'Amma and provide a more comprehensive perspective compared to previous, more fragmented studies.

Abstract

Ḥadīṡ Iftirāq Recognition in a Multicultural SpaceThe purpose of this research is to analyze two main things, namely how the iftiraq hadith is used as a tool to legitimize the existence of other groups, and how to actualize this hadith in multicultural life. This research also uses a fiqh al-ḥadīṡ approach with a descriptive-hermeneutical analysis model. This research has shown two things. First, the concepts of "According to the Prophet and the Companions" and "al-Jamā'ah" have been 'withdrawn' to monopolize the concept of salvation for a particular religious group. Second, in the context of multicultural life, iftirāq hadith needs to be seen as a text that is connected to other texts, namely, the Qur'an and other hadiths. In this case, there needs to be a distinction between the principles of belief and the principle of coexistence. The principle of belief becomes vertical: man and God; while the principle of coexistence is horizontal: humans and their environment. This principle have consequences for the importance of maintaining human values and others for the sake of a peaceful, balanced and harmonious life.

Abstract

This article seeks to reveal the differences in the understanding, elements, and criminal sanctions of terrorism between Islamic criminal law and positive law that applies in Indonesia. This article is a qualitative research by utilizing literature as a source. The approach used is normative juridical to analyze data sourced from sources of Islamic law and Indonesian positive law. After being analyzed, the two sources are compared to find similarities and differences regarding criminal acts of terrorism from both perspectives. This article reveals that, in the discourse of Islamic criminal law, terrorism is equated with the concept of jarimah hirabah or acts of violence using weapons, creating fear in the victim, and resulting in the loss of other people's lives. Whereas in positive law, the element of criminal acts of terrorism is the use of violence that creates an atmosphere of terror and fear en masse. Criminal sanctions in Islamic criminal law are: killed and crucified, killed, cut off legs and arms crosswise and imprisoned. Whereas in positive law, the sanction is the death penalty, or imprisonment for a specified period of time.
