Abstract

The aim of this research are to assess the feasibility of water and soil quality in silvofishery cultivation areas and to determine the environmental carrying capacity of the cultivation. The methods employed include Water Quality Index (WQI), Soil Quality Index (SQI), carrying capacity, and correlation analysis of parameters. The concentration of COD in the silvofishery pond water ranges from 705.34-749.50 mg.L-1, and the total nitrogen content in the soil ranges from 7-8 mg.L-1. The COD parameter in water shows a strong correlation with dissolved oxygen. The soil type parameter silt is correlated with redox potential, while the clay soil type is correlated with sand soil. The variance in data for water and soil quality variables is considered significant as per cluster analysis. The WQI values range from 0.47-0.85, categorized as poor, good, and excellent. The SQI values range from 0.52-0.77, falling into the good and excellent categories. The carrying capacity of dissolved oxygen ranges from 0.7-1.99 kg.ha-1, indicating that if the DO concentration is below this range, oxygen depletion may occur in the silvofishery pond. The research results indicate that the water and soil quality in the silvofishery pond is still sufficiently suitable for silvofishery activities. The carrying capacity of dissolved oxygen in the silvofishery pond is deemed adequate for operational silvofishery activities, ranging from 14.26-15.87 kg.ha-1. This implies that the silvofishery cultivation system is capable of enhancing aquaculture productivity while minimizing environmental pollution in the surrounding aquatic areas resulting from the waste generated during aquaculture operations.

Abstract

Abstract

Fish farming has become essential in meeting the global demand for animal protein, with the maintenance of fish larvae being a crucial stage in determining production success. Tubifex worms, rich in essential nutrients, have long been used as natural feed in aquaculture. This article provides a comprehensive review of the utilization of Tubifex worms, covering their morphological and anatomical characteristics, habitat, and nutritional content. The benefits of using Tubifex worms as natural feed include enhanced growth and health of fish larvae and cost efficiency in production. This article also outlines feeding procedures, risk management, and challenges in the mass production of Tubifex worms. Additionally, recent research and practical approaches that can be implemented to optimize the use of Tubifex worms in fish farming are discussed, providing guidance for fish farmers and researchers in aquaculture.

Abstract

The seaweed Caulerpa racemosa has great potential to be developed because it has economic value and potential as a functional food. This seaweed contains nutrients, including protein, carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fatty acids, fiber minerals, and antioxidants. The availability of seaweed is still very dependent on nature and has not been appropriately cultivated. The planting season and appropriate cultivation methods will influence seaweed's quality/nutritional content. This research aims to analyze the nutritional content of seaweed C. racemosa cultivated in different growing seasons. The research method used a floating raft system with a completely randomized design and a factorial pattern carried out in two seasons, namely the dry and rainy seasons. Proximate analysis was carried out to determine the nutritional composition of seaweed C. racemosa, including protein, crude fiber, water, ash, fat, and carbohydrate (NFE). Next, it was analyzed using ANOVA with a further test with Tukey. The research results showed differences in the nutritional composition of seaweed C. racemosa from each treatment cultivated in the dry and rainy seasons. The nutritional composition of seaweed C. racemosa best treatment is found in the plant spacing of 30 cm with a depth of 50 cm in the dry season with the nutritional content namely protein (13.8%), NFE (20.75%), crude fiber (15.71%), a fluctuating fat content of 0.16-1.42%, highest ash (34.69%), water content (35%), moderate in the rainy season namely: protein (10.8%), BETN (10.78%), crude fiber (12.33%), fat content fluctuates (0.18-1.06%), highest ash (30.21%), water content (41.01%).
