Abstract

Electrophoresis is one of the experimental methods employed in this study to characterize unique properties of charges of silica nanoparticles (SiO2) by observing their electrophoretic phenomena while they are situated in the electric field. This study is aimed to measure one of the SiO2 properties, namely the charge, using electrophoresis method through the variation of electric fields. The charge dependencies of SiO2 was probed towards five times variation of electric fields 1000, 1250, 1500, 1750, and 2000 V/m in 20 mL of aquades. The displacement of SiO2 could be observed through the light microscope with 160x magnification which the recorded observations then were analyzed by timeline-based software to measure the displacement time of particles during the observation. The results revealed that silica nanoparticles have the kind of positive charges in the colloidal solution. It is caused the magnitude of SiO2 charges is ranged constantly despite the variational effect of electric field in the environment. Light microscope has been optimized in this study to measure the velocity of SiO2 that tends to increase with respect to the magnifying electric fields given in the experiment.

Abstract

Go organic in 2010 is a program launched by the government to produce organic agricultural products. The organic red chili plant is one of the products of the go organic program in 2010 which has high economic value, so it is necessary to increase the red chili plant the productivity. The use of local microorganisms can be used as an alternative in producing organic chili products. This study aims to determine the effect of type and dose of the best local microorganism on the growth and yield of chili. The study used a factorial randomized block design consisting of two factors. The first factor was local microorganisms (P) type consisting of 3 levels: P1(vegetables), P2(tomatoes), and P3(vegetables and tomatoes), the second factor was local microorganisms (D) dose consisting of 5 levels: D0: 0 cc/L of water, D1: 25 cc/L, D2: 50 cc/L, D3: 75 cc/L, D4: 100 cc/L. The results showed that P3D1 is the best treatment in increasing plant height, flowers number and accelerating 80% flowering age. Treatment of MOL P1 type and 25 cc/L dose is the best treatment in increasing the chili plants diameter. P3D4 is the best treatment in increasing the chilies wet weight per plant.

Abstract

Speaking proficiency becomes a priority in leaning foreign language. However, preliminary observation done showed that speaking skill was not the objective in most English classes. It was also found that the students were passive. By applying Research and Development design of Pimsleur‟s reciprocal technique, this study aims to improve the novice learners‟ speaking proficiency. After applying design of Pimsleur‟s reciprocal technique, there are some results. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that the Indonesian adaptation of Pimsleur‟s method is an appropriate media to teach transactional conversation to low level students. The results show that the simple real situations based audio content is suitable and useful to the students‟ need. The principles used also ease the students to acquire, store, recall, practice, and communicate in English, as the target language, correctly. And the participants give positive responses to the use of the Indonesian adaptation of Pimsleur‟s method
