Abstract

Activities carried out in May-June 2018 aim to be an additional source of income to the community. Poor economic conditions are a source of declining levels of public health and education. The main problems faced by farmer group partners and village heads are: (1) community income is inadequate, (2) lack of knowledge of how to raise quail and formulation of rations, (3) partner duties as monitoring activities. The specific target of the PKM program is to create a safer and more conducive environment as an implication of the transfer of quail breeding knowledge and good ration formulation to give birth to a viable pioneer youth group who want to work and partners as monitors are expected to become new innovators independently in their environment. The methods offered: (a) Socialization of mentoring programs raising quails as an effort to convince partners to follow them, (b) Preparation of social preconditions (c) Implementation of quail farming assistance programs supported by Farmer Group Partners and Village Heads with Universities (Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Muhammadiyah University of South Tapanuli) to ensure knowledge transfer goes well and, (d) Monitoring, evaluation and reporting. During the event the target partner has activities showed high enthusiasm, proactive conditions and discussion. Constraints arise when monitoring activities, allegedly due to the low motivation of group members, the capacity of the cage and quail transferred by the PKM Team is not enough as a fundamental motivation for members. This suspicion is reinforced by the information obtained in the field, that in general the self-help groups (Farmer / Youth / Organization / Individual Groups) in this village have been accustomed to "enjoying" social activities in the form of assistance from government and private institutions through various programs with sufficient budget big. This condition triggers "laziness" members in maintaining the transferred assets.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The food processing industry, whether related to livestock, agriculture, or fishery products, often requires thickening additives to improve product quality. Salak trees are found around the Southern Tapanuli area of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Previous research showed the Midrib Sap Flour Salak Tree (TGPS) has fairly good quality content as a natural thickening agent but has not reported the quality of TGPS in terms of heavy metal content. Here, a study was carried out to determine the heavy metal content of TGPS. This research was conducted in January-March 2022 in Southern Tapanuli. The analysis showed that the metal content in TGPS does not exceed the threshold required in Indonesian Standard SNI 7387-2009.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study the performances of broilers and native chicken given arenga waste (APAF) fermentation by Saccaromyces cerevisiae and arenga waste unfermentation (APA) in the ration. Sixty day-old chicks of broiler Arbor Acres strain and sixty native chicken were divided into four dietary treatments and three replications (10 birds/replicate). Design of this experiment was completely randomized design factorial 2x2, with factor A was feeding (A1 = arenga waste unfermentation, A2 = arenga waste fermentation), and factor B was chickens type (B1=native chicken, B2=broilers). The variables observed were: daily weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion. The results showed that the performances of the broiler given fed with unfermented and fermented arenga waste showing no significant differences between all treatments. The results showed that there is an interaction between feeding and chicken type was no significant differences (P>0.05). Conclusion from this research of using fermented and unfermented arenga waste until level of 2.5% in ration showed no significant differences in the performance.

Abstract

This research was aimed to study of palatability and body weight gain local sheeps given minerals herbal (MBH). The farms used in this study were male 4 local sheep at the age of 12-18 months who showed symptoms of mineral deficiency. The research method used is the Latin Square Design (LSD). The treatment given is: H0 = Basal Feed + Salt; H1 = Basal Feed + Salt + Mineral + Turmeric; H2 = Basal Feed + Salt + Mineral + Ginger; H3 = Basal Feed + Salt + Mineral + Turmeric + Ginger. The research parameter is the mineral palatability of herbal blocks and body weight gain. The results showed that MBH given turmeric (10%), ginger (10%) and a combination of 5% + 5% ginger showed a non-significant effect on feed consumption and conversion. Palatability test showed that all MBH treatments were favored by local sheep, but the highest palatability of MBH was by adding ginger; followed by a combination of ginger and turmeric; and the lowest palatability is turmeric. Based on palatability tests, MBH with turmeric supplementation of 10%; 10% ginger or a combination of 5% ginger + 5% turmeric in the form of Herbal Minerals Block has a good palatability (preferred) and can improve the performance of local sheep.
