Abstract

Bitter melon plants (Momordica charantia L.) have a bitter taste and are used as medicinal plants as diabetes, so effervescent granule preparation is made because it can be given to people who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules. This study to make effervescent granules formulation of bitter melon with variations the concentration of gelatin as a binder. Gelatin will produce granules of uniform size and have stronger binding capacity between particles than starch and PVP. The method of making effervescent granules was carried out by wet granulation separately. Effervescent granules are formulated with gelatin concentrations of 3%, 6% and 9%. The granules obtained were carried out by organoleptic evaluation, flow time, tapping test, water content, pH test, dissolution time and taste response. The result of evaluation physical properties obtained brown granule shape, while the result of testing the flow time, tapping test, pH test, dissolved time obtained the results that meet the requirements and moisture content tests did not meet the requirements because the use of hygroscopic acids other than that affected by the process during granule making effervescent. The taste respons test was carried out on 20 panelists, formula III had a sour taste and was preferred. Based on these results the best formula of effervescent granules is formula III because the higher the concentration of gelatin will increase the binding capacity between particles, so that the friction force between particles becomes more complicated and the flow rate gets better, and provide a sour taste so that the bitter taste of the bitter melon can be covered.

Abstract

Bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia L.) can be used as traditionally to reduce blood sugar levels. Avicel PH 101 and corn starch are efficacious as fillers, disintegration excipient and binders. The combination of Avicel PH 101 with corn starch is expected to be able accelerate the tablet disintegration time of tablet. This research was aimed to get the optimum formula tablets of  bitter melon extract tablets using combination of corn starch and avicel PH 101. Bitter melon extract was formulated in tablet with wet granulation method. Bitter melon extract was obtained by maceration with ethanol 70% as solvent. Tablet formula based on the Simplex Lattice Desaign method uses Design Expert software version 11 with parameters that are used weight uniformity, hardness, friability and disintegration time. The results obtained from the simplex lattice design compared with the results of testing using the SPSS 18 program using the One Sample T-Test with a confidence level of 95%. The result  of this research indicate bitter melon extract was made by tablets with wet granulation method with a combination of Avicel PH 101and corn starch, a formula with a ratio of 51% : 49% selected as the optimum formula with weight uniformity, hardness, friability and disintegration time meeting the requirements.   Keywords : bitter melon extract, tablets, corn starch, avicel PH 101, simplex lattice design

Abstract

Gel is a semisolid preparation that is clear, translucent containing active ingredients, can provide a cool effect on the skin and good spread of the skin. The use of gelling agent in gel formulations greatly affects the physical properties of the resulting gel preparations. HPMC is a gel forming material that is neutral and can form a clear gel and can maintain the viscosity of the resulting gel, while carbopol are easily dispersed in water and produce preparations with sufficient viscosity. The research conducted aims to determine the comparison of carbopol and HPMC in the optimal gel formula of betel leaf extract nanoparticles with Simplex Lattice Design method. The response used was pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The results obtained by carbopol concentration of 80.9% and HPMC 19.1% was the optimal gel formula of betel leaf extract nanoparticle. Based on the verification, an insignificant difference was obtained between the predictions of the software and the results of the tests performed. This shows that the method used was valid or can be trusted.

Abstract

Banana kepok peel has flavonoid compounds used as antioxidants. The aim of this research is to get optimum formula of cream by combination of stearic acid and trietanolamin on good physical propertie of cream. Cream was made with stearic acid 15% minimum concentration and maximum concentration 17%, triethanolamine with minimum concentration 2% and maximum concentration 4%. The optimization of the formula was using the simplex lattice design method with parameters are pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesion and protection. The optimum cream formula on the combination of stearic acid 16.7 grams and triethanolamine 2.3 grams. Verification results of optimal formula cream for pH got 6.1, viscosity 237.47, adhesion 12.32, power spread 18.11, protection 14.98 which showed no significant difference in the test, and has good stability.

Abstract

Abstract

Rosella flower (Hibiscuss sabdariffa L.) in traditional medicine can provide protection against various diseases, such as coronary heart disease, cancer, lowering cholesterol, and liver disorders. This study aims to obtain the optimum formula of tablet of rosella flower extract with a mixture of Avicel PH 101 and lactose as a filler using wet granulation method. Rosella flower extract was obtained by maceration of rosella flower powder using 70% ethanol. The optimization formula for tablets using the Simplex Lattice Design method with Design Expert software version 10. The parameters used in the optimization are weight variation, hardness, friability and disintegration time. Verification of the optimal formula using the SPSS 18 program with the One Sample T-test method with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed that the optimal formula of tablet of rosella flower extract was the Avicel PH 101 97.82%: 2.17% lactose. The optimal formula has weight variation 1.53% ± 0.0073; hardness 5.087 kg ± 0.5135; the friability is 0.3% ± 0.041. The resulting disintegration was 22.99 minutes ± 2.218. The results of the verification of the optimal formula show that there is no significant difference between the predictions of the Simplex Lattice Design method and the results of the tests performed so that it can be said that the method is valid.
