Abstract

Dry extract of sarang semut (Myrmecodia pendens Merr & Perry) water/n-butanol fraction is native plant from Papua is proven to be active against cancer cells. This research aims to improve the quality of extracts of sarang semut become the raw material that meets the standards of medicinal plant extracts in the fulfillment of the quality of the extracts into anticancer Standardized Herbal Medicine / Obat Herbal Terstandar (OHT). Extraction with ultrasonic methods (1:10 with methanol) and fractionation with water:butanol (1:1) as much as 1:20. Standardization and data analysis based on parameters of the Medicinal Plant Extracts (Kepmenkes RI No: 55/Menkes/SK/I/2000) and BPOM RI Regulation No. 12, Year 2014 about quality requirements of traditional medicine. Dry extract of sarang semut (water/n-butanol fraction) met the standards of raw material preparation for OHT with organoleptics shaped dried extracts, dark brown color, aromatic smell, and has a sour-bitter taste. Moisture content was 9,259 ± 0.001 ( 10%). Total Plate Count was 5 x 103 colonies/g (< 104 colonies/g). Yeast and Mold Count was 0,5 x 101 colonies/g (< 103 colonies/g). Pathogenic bacteria test shows that MPN Coliform value was 0 colonies/g and negatively to the presence of Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Shiggella sp. The extract was not detected the presence of aflatoxin total (aflatoxin B1, B2, G1 and G2). The content of heavy metal Cd was 0,0052 ± 0.0005 ppm ( 0.3 ppm) and heavy metals Pb was 0,9429 ± 0,0087 ppm ( 10 ppm).

Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum Linn) is evidently active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Garlic contains allicin that is able to inhibit the bacteria causing tuberculosis. This dried extract garlic is also qualified as content of capsules of traditional medicine, score of Total Plate Count is1.5 (required not over 10); figures of mold and yeast extract of garlic is 4.102 (required not over 104); does not contain microbial pathogens (uncontaminated with coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp, and Staphylococcus aureus); and aflatoxin is not detected (required not more than 30 CPM); the average of moisture content is 2% (required notmore than 10%). Capsule of dried extract garlic (Allium sativum Linn) meets pharmaceutical requirements for traditional medicine capsule dosage form, with9 minutes as disintegrating time (required not more than 15 minutes) and meets the uniformity of weight as required for capsule. Results of the research indicates that dried extract of garlic indose above 48.750 mg/ kg body weightto get LD50in garlic, belongs to ‘relatively harmless’. Dried extract garlic in 4 doses variations do not affect the liver functions of mice, so significant clinical toxicity symptoms that happen on entire animals test have not gained yet

Abstract

Telang flower (Clitoria ternatea L.) contains phenolic compounds which can act as antioxidants by donating hydrogen so as to stabilize the lack of electrons in free radicals. This study aims to determine the antioxidant potential of telang flower ethanol extract by looking at the IC50 value. Telang flowers were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. The potential for antioxidants was determined by the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method with a comparison of vitamin C which had been shown to have the potential of free radicals which were very potent. The results showed the IC50 value of telang flower ethanol extract was 41.36 ± 1.191 ?g / mL, based on that value the telang flower extract from the Sleman area was in the very potent category so that it could be developed as a source of antioxidants from natural ingredients.
