Abstract

                                             ABSTRACT            Muktar Tahumil1 , Donald R. Lotulung2 , Jultje A. Rattu3This research entitled “Penamaan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Sangihe: Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The aim of this research is to make a contrastive analysis of Toponym in English and Sangihe Language. In analysing the data from two languages, the writer used the theory from Tent & Slatyer (2009:22) and Fraenkel & Wallen (1993. P.23) to contrast both languages. Some previous study which also been used to support this research, Suripatty (2015) and Prayogo, et al (2016). The descriptive qualitative method is used to describe the data analysis. The finding shows that the similarity between two languages is laid only in the category of toponym and there are three differences: descriptive toponym is more common in Sangihe language while in English more likely to used eponymous toponym, toponym in English more likely to used literal meaning while Sangihe language convey figurative meaning and the evaluative, indigenous, also shift toponym category are not found in Sangihe language.Keywords : Toponym, English and Sangihe language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                                 ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “The Terms of Food in English and Tonsea Language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. This reseacrh is an attempt to identify, analyze, classify, and contrasting the terms of food which are used in English and Tonsea language. The English data have been collected from thesis and from the internet, whereas the Tonsea language data have been elicted from Tonsea dictionary and from some informant. The descriptive method is used to describe and analyze the kinds of food by using Frisch in Hickerson theory. After describing the kind of food in English and Tonsea language, the writer makes a contrastive analyze by using Robert Lado theory in finding out the similarities and diffrences of both language. The result shows that the kind of terms of food in english and Tonsea language consists of two groups, they are solid food consist of food and beverage/drinks. Solid food consists of fruits, vegetable, bread, meat, fish and seafood, and proccesed food. Beverage/drink consist of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink.Keywords: The Terms of Food in English and Tonsea Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                                  ABSTRACT     Muthia S.Z. Luande1 Jultje A.J. Rattu2 Theresia M.C. Lasut3 This study entitled “ Illocutionary Act in Whatsapp Group Brighter “, is an analysis of pragmatic investigation that focuses on one aspect of speech acts called the illocutionary act. This research is an attempt to find out the kinds and functions of the illocutionary act in the Whatsapp group. The research uses descriptive qualitative method. The collected data were taken from the chat of the members of the group based on the theory of Searle. The research finding shows that there are three categories of illocutionary acts in Whatsapp Group Brighter. Those are assertives : asserting, stating, suggesting, and complaining. directives : requesting, commanding, begging, commanding and expressives : caviling and deep condolences. This study is expected to give contribution to language development in linguistic studies especially in analyzing illocutionary acts through pragmatic analysis.Keywords: Illocutionary act, Whatsapp group Brighter, pragmatics analysis

Abstract

                                                  ABSTRACT     This research entitled Mood in English and Manado Malay Language: A Contrastive Analysis. The aims of this study are to identify and classify the kinds and functions of mood and analyze the differences and similarities of mood in English and Manado Malay language. This research used a descriptive method. The writer used Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Frank (1972) theory to identify and classify the kinds and functions of mood and Lado’s (1957) theory to contrast both languages to find out the differences and similarities. The result of this research shows 3 kinds of mood with each function in both languages. Kinds and functions of mood in English are indicative mood to declare all situation without the imperative and subjunctive mood, subjunctive mood to declare uncertainty, wish, and encourage, and imperative mood to declare command, request and instruction. Kinds and functions of mood in Manado Malay language are indicative mood to declare all situation, subjunctive mood to declare uncertainty and encourage, and imperative mood to declare command, instruction, and request. The similarity in both languages are has the same definition and function to explain a fact (indicative) or nonfact (subjunctive, imperative) situation. The differences in both languages are English has regular and irregular verb and using ‘to be’ to distinguish singular and plural, whereas Manado Malay language has no an alteration of verb form towards singular or plural.Keywords: Mood, Manado Malay Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT     The title of this study is “Adverb of Frequency in English and Tontemboan language: Contrastive Analysis”. The aims of this study are to identify, classify, and analyze about the form, position and meaning in English and Tontemboan language and to find out the similarities and differences of both language by using the theory of Lyons (1975: 325-326), Micheal Swan (2005:16-23) and Murthy (1998:180-181). In this study, the English data were taken from some English Linguistics and grammar books and the Tontemboan language were taken by interviewing some informants. The method that has been applied in this study is contrastive analysis. The result of this study shows that both languages have differences and similarities. Based on forms, the adverbs of frequency in both languages are bound and free forms, based on position they are in front, middle and end positions. The meaning of both languages are just the same that describe how often an action is performed. Adverbs of frequency in English and Tontemboan have differences, specifically the form of adverbs of frequency in English there are simple forms and complex forms, while in Tontemboan language adverbs of frequency are only in simple forms. _______________________________Keyword: Adverb of Frequency, English and Tontemboan Language, Contrastive Analysis

Rattu, SS, M,Mktg2                                   Dr. Garryn Ch. Ranuntu, S.PM.Hum3     This research entitled “Illocutionary Act on the Interview of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs” is a pragmatic analysis focusing on speech act, especially, illocutionary act. This research is an attempt to indentify and classify types and analyze and describe functions of illocutionary act used in the Interview of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. This research is conducted by using descriptive method where the focus on this research is identifying illocutionary acts on the Interview. Furthermore, this research is done by using theory from Austin (1962) to analyze and classify those illocutionary acts according its function. The result of this research shows that there are 34 illocutionary acts found on the press conference and all the data are divided into five types of illocutionary acts and its function, such as: verdictives (declare, date, calculate, hold as metter as fact, estimate, and value), excersitives (ordering, appointing, directing, advising), commissives (declare an intention, promising, espouse, and oppose), behabitives (compliment and thank), expositives (giving a statement and giving a view).______________________________________Keywords: Pragmatic, Illocutionary Act, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Interview

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Terms of Food and Beverage in English and Tobelo language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types of food and beverages in English and Tobelo language and o analyse the differences and similarities of the terms of food and beverages between English and Tobelo language. This research uses a descriptive method. The data of food and beverages in English were collected from skripsi, journal, or article from the internet, while the data in Tobelo language were collected by interviewing informants by phone calls, furthermore in taking the data pictures of food and beverages in Tobelo language, the writer conducted picture searching of food and beverages by the internet and also took some pictures from the traditional markets and then confirmed the data of the images taken were appropriate and correct with the intended data to the informants. The collected data have been analyzed by using the theories from Frisch in Hickerson’s and Foley’s and then to get a contrastive analysis the writer uses the theory of Lado’s also to find out the difference and similarities of the two different languages. The result shows that the data of English food consist two types those are solid food and beverages/drink. Tobelo language consist of three groups those are solid food, liquid food, and beverages/drink. English food and beverages has 8 ways of making food and beverages, Tobelo language has 9 ways. English food and beverages has 8 types of basic food and beverages ingredient, while in Tobelo language has 10 types of basic food and beverages ingredient. The differences found are in English categories has no liquid food while in Tobelo language has. In English language have many kinds of bread while in Tobelo language have many kinds of cakes/cookies. In the way of food and beverages are made, Tobelo language has nonofu/fufu(smoke/fumigation) but in English has not. In the basic ingredient of staple food in English has wheat and bread while in Tobelo language has rice and sagu(sago)._______________________Keywords: Terms, Food and Beverages, English Language, Tobelo Language, Contrastive Analysis.Â
