Abstract

Innovations on hijab have implications for the expansion of its users. Thus it encourages the growth of new identities for hijab which are then expressed by enriching its style, form, color tone, and fabric. The cultivation of hijab throughs the pop-culture of Korea arose and known as the “Korean waved” hijab. This paper has an opportunity to elaborate on hijab’s contemporary progression worldwide. It reflects the Korean pop-culture and identifies the authenticity of the tradition of wearing the hijab in Indonesia. It problematizes the issue of Korean hijab style and how the Quran responds to it. The research framework used a sequential exploratory model henceforth resulting in a scientific response to the phenomenon of Korea's creative industries in the making of an authentic Indonesian hijab model. The results answered the challenges of the vision of "Making Indonesia 4.0" in developing the industrial sector of textile in Indonesia by tracing ethical, aesthetical, and economic modes of hijab.

Abstract

Aesthetic phenomenon that is happening in Indonesia is suspected by the election year. Debates between presidents that contain "contempt of contempt", either by quoting the mistakes of a presidential candidate in the past or by searching for incumbents presidential incumbents positively, raises concern for the writer. The immoral act was followed by the phenomenon of the appointment of a former military officer as the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia in the cabinet “Indonesia Maju” for 2019-2024 working period. Through the reflection on these backgrounds, the author initiated to reconstruct Islamic ethics in the present context. This paper uses the interpretation of Ibn Jarir al-Tabari (d. 923) in his Jamī 'al-Bayan, Jalal al-Din al-Suyuthi (d. 1505) in his Durr al-Mantsur, and Hamka (d. 1981) in his Tafsir Al-Azhar. The author also reads the development of ethical concepts in various literatures diachronically, for example the concept of ethics in al-Miskawaih's perspective and the social-humanity ethics of Austin Fagothey. The final results in this paper are expected to provide a new horizon for various the rightaway polemics. The epistemology of the Qur'ani ethic formed by these three cross-period commentators shows a conclusion that the ethical values in Kalam Allah need to be formatted in humanitarian missions. The author claims HAMKA's Al-Azhar Tafsir as an interpretation of social ethics in the Qur'an that is most relevant to the current context in Indonesia. HAMKA sees that the Qur'anic ethics is able to bring the concepts of faith and piety into social awareness to fight poverty, crime, discrimination, intolerance, and disagreements. The concept embodies the integration between Qur’an axiology in QS. al-Hujurat (49): 11-13 with universal humanist principles such as equality, justice, democracy, protection of rights, and peace. All of these values can be diplocrammed with the spirit of the election of the Indonesian republic's minister of religion who understands nationalism and spiritualism.

Abstract

The term syaraḥ and its education in Islamic universities have been misunderstood by contemporary scholars. The practice of syaraḥ has been interpreted by them in a narrower meaning, namely as an effort to elaborate Islamic classical sources in doctrinal and involution discourses. Thus these perceptions brought about stereotypes upon the development of the education of sharh in universities. This paper observes the development of Hadith studies in a diachronic reading through analyzing the position of sharh in the history of Hadith studies in Indonesia from the 16th century until present time, and from the formative to reformative era. The development and dynamic of sharh in history show that each Hadith scholar improving its construction idiosyncratically as an effort to answer current challenges by each context.

Abstract

Various conflict transformation through shows that the message of peace has entered a transitional phase that is quite prospective in the Indonesian Islamic societies. On the other hand, the phenomenon of the "Presidential Candidate Election for 2019-2024’s period" since August 4th ago was feared to break the harmony being built between groups in Indonesia because of the symptoms of religious commercialization. To secure the adaptation and maturity of the peace transition in this phase, a comprehensive approach for the message of peace in the Qur'an (AsSalám) is needed as the national communication media. This article is expected to be able to provide new ideas to reassure the phase of conflict transformation that is currently occurs in Indonesia, as well as being a strong fortress that will stem the onslaught of commercialization of religion. Berbagai konflik sosial keagamaan transformasional melalui menunjukkan bahwa konsep damai telah memasuki fase transisi religiusitas yang cukup prospektif di tengah masyarakat Islam Indonesia. Di sisi lain, demam “Pemilihan Calon Presiden Periode 2019- 2024” Agustus 2019 lalu dikhawatirkan memecah kembali keharmonisan yang sedang dibangun di antara golongan-golongan di Indonesia karena gejala komersialisasi agama. Untuk mengamankan adaptasi dan kematangan transisi perdamaian pada fase tersebut, diperlukan pendekatan yang komprehensif antar umat Islam Indonesia dengan pesan perdamaian dalam Al-Qur’an (As-Salám) sebagai media komunikasi berkebangsaan. Artikel ini diharapkan mampu memberikan gagasan baru untuk “menyejukkan” fase transformasi konflik yang tengah bergolak di Indonesia, serta menjadi benteng kokoh yang akan membendung serangan komersialisasi agama.

Abstract

Contemporary Qur’an and Hadith scholars are challenged in their way to develop comprehensive research while observing the realia in a multidisciplinary and cognitive perspective so that authoritative and arbitrary interpretations would not appear. This article examines the theory of Maqāshid al-Qur’an and Ma’nā cum Maghzā promoted by two scholars, Abdul Mustaqim and Sahiron Syamsuddin, especially in the context of reinventing the meaning of jilbab/hijab. The validity of Maqashidī and Ma’nā cum Maghzā interpretation is equivalent based in its process on identifying values of the Qur’anic text to develop moral-based interpretations. Through the maqāshidi interpretation approach, the development of hijab is observed as an effort of protection, prevention the rights of the mind, soul, body, family, financial, and ishahah to the legal, political, and sharia implications. On the other side, through the Ma’nā cum Maghzā approach, the development of hijab has experienced the axiological shift from ethical values to aesthetic one so that societal reception on its magnificence and sublimities have changed its position from within the fundamental-productive aspects of hifzh al-nasl which were originally istihsan towards dharuriyyat. Interpretation products emerged from the methodology of Maqāshidi and Ma’nā cum Maghzā are inclined to the conclusion that the use of the hijab in Indonesia needs to be adjusted to the needs of the community which underlining the dimensions of temporality and locality, so that an interpreter needs to observe the ahhām marhaliyāt (temporal law) philosophically, critically, and contextually.[Sarjana Alquran dan Hadis kontemporer dituntut untuk mengembangkan kajian yang komprehensif dengan mengamati realita dalam perspektif multidisiplin dan rasional sehingga tafsir otoritatif dan sewenang-wenang tidak akan muncul. Artikel ini membahas teori Maqāshid al-Qur’an dan Ma’nā cum Maghzā yang dikemukakan oleh dua ulama, Abdul Mustaqim dan Sahiron Syamsuddin, terutama dalam konteks memaknai kembali arti jilbab/ hijab. Validitas interpretasi Maqashidī dan Ma’nā cum Maghzā dalam hal ini setara kedudukannya berdasarkan prosesnya dalam mengidentifikasi nilai-nilai teks Alquran untuk mengembangkan interpretasi berbasis moral. Melalui pendekatan interpretasi maqāshidi, pengembangan jilbab diamati sebagai upaya perlindungan, pelanggaran hak-hak pikiran, jiwa, tubuh, keluarga, keuangan, dan ishahah terhadap implikasi hukum, politik, dan syariah. Di sisi lain, melalui pendekatan Ma’nā cum Maghzā, pengembangan jilbab telah mengalami pergeseran aksiologis dari nilai-nilai etis ke nilai estetika sehingga penerimaan masyarakat atas kemegahan dan keagungannya telah mengubah posisinya dari dalam aspek fundamental-produktif dari hifzh al-nasl yang awalnya istihsan menuju dharuriyyat. Produk tafsir yang berasal dari metodologi Maqāshidi dan Ma’nā cum Maghzā cenderung pada kesimpulan bahwa penggunaan jilbab di Indonesia perlu disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan masyarakat yang menggarisbawahi dimensi temporalitas dan lokalitas, sehingga seorang penafsir perlu mengamati ahhām marhaliyāt (hukum temporal) secara filosofis, kritis, dan kontekstual.]

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengidentifikasi otoritas Hadis dalam konsep Asbāb al-Nuzūl Jadīd  menurut M. Amin Abdullah. Asbāb al-Nuzūl Jadīd adalah paradigma tafsir kontemporer yang berbasis pada pola pikir kosmis (worldview), ideologis, antropologis dan teologis. Penulis berusaha mengkritisi peran Hadis sebagai sumber penafsiran dalam tafsir Qur’an kontemporer, terutama dalam metodologi Asbāb al-Nuzūl al-Jadīd.Hadis, yang mengalami beberapa tahapan transformasi dari budaya realitas (qaul, fi’il, taqrīr, shifat Nabi), budaya lisan (tradisi isnād), hingga ke budaya tulis (kodifikasi teks Hadis), menghadapi tantangan untuk terus bertahan di tengah kompleksitas masyarakat kontemporer yang dinamis dan fluktuatif. Terdapat interval antara wilayah ajaran (das sollen) dan wilayah realita (das sein) dalam penggunaan Hadis di tafsir kontemporer. Perbedaan tersebut membuat Hadis jarang dijadikan sebagai rujukan utama dalam tafsir kontemporer dan hanya dijadikan sebagai prawacana atau pre-text.Hermeneutika otoritarian Abou Fadl menjadi sarana untuk mengembangkan konsep Asbāb al-Nuzūl Jadīd dalam konsentrasi studi Hadis. Kritik normativitas matan dan desakralisasi isnad mampu mengungkap spirit Hadis dan meminimalisir subjektivitas perawi (idiosyncronic). Analisis di atas diharapkan mampu menjadi alternatif untuk mereduksi produk penafsiran bersumber Hadis yang sewenang-wenang (despotic interpretation).

Abstract

This article focuses on the idea of multiculturalism in Javanese mythical believing (Kejawen) communities within the paradigm of Qur'anic studies. The discussion of the research emphasizes the axiological shift of QS. Al-Kafirun (109) in the milieu of Urip Sejati community of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. “Urip Sejati” is a Javanese religious society that has developed as a minority group because it is domiciled near to various centers of Islamic civilization as pesantren, historic mosques, and colleges in Krapyak. This research has been held since 2018 by doing literary studies, observations, and interviews through the leaders of Urip Sejati community.The structure of this article features a complex process of analysis on transmission and transformation of Qur'anic interpretations in the paradigm of sociology. It also analyzes the patterns of the phenomenon in a synchronic and diachronic paradigm to get through a worldview reading. On its formal form, the reception of Q.109: 6 in the membership of Urip Sejati contains informative and performative suppositions. This verse became a major foundation for the construction of multiculturalism because it contains the doctrine acknowledged as a verse that supports pluralities.

Abstract

Over 11 centuries, Abu Nasr al-Farabi (d. 950) is well-known as a great philosopher and political scientist. Few studies have examined al-Mu'allim al-Ṡani’s capacity as a Qur’anic interpreter. Even though Al-Farabi has never written a complete Qur’anic exegesis book, he is noticed consistently paraphrasing verses of the Qur’an into political statements to justify the interrelatedness between Islamic political thought with Ancient Greek’s one which inspired from Plato and Aristotle. This characteristic is seen in some of his masterpieces as Arāyat Ahl al-Madīnah al-Faḍīlah and al-Siyāsah al-Madīnah. This paper seeks the potential adaptation of al-Farabi's idea about the ideal society, based on his alteration of Qur’anic verses into political concepts, as an alternative to fulfill the shortfall of Indonesian democracy. The article reflects al-Farabi's thoughts in the context of democratization challenges in Indonesia post-political campaign and suggested that its practice of democration is still considered as a "green" and imperfect form. Keywords: Abu Nasr al-Farabi; madīnah al-fadhīlah al-sa’ādah, Democratization Challenges. Abstract

Tulisan ini mengkaji perkembangan wacana keadilan gender dalam produksi tafsir yang muncul dalam ragam istilah kunci. Adapun istilah-istilah kunci dalam kajian tafsir berwawasan keadilan gender merupakan definisi operasional yang dapat diidentifikasikan sebagai berikut:  dekonstruksi patriarki, tafsir feminis, tafsir progresif, dan Qirā’āh Mubādalah. Analisis terhadap keempat istilah kunci tersebut bertujuan untuk merekam kontestasi wacana penafsiran berkeadilan gender di Indonesia yang berlangsung sekaligus melacak aktor dan agen yang terlibat dalam produksi wawasan tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini ialah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi pustaka. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa keempat istilah kunci tafsir ini secara fundamental memiliki akar gagasan yang bersumber dari feminisme, terutama jika ditelusuri secara historis pada gerakan feminisme di Indonesia. Akan tetapi tiap definisi operasional memiliki sistem kode, teori, dan metode interpretasi yang autentik kendatipun keempat konsep tersebut dipopulerkan oleh sejumlah aktor intelektual yang berbeda semisal Husein Muhammad, Musdah Mulia, Zaitunah Subhan, dan Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir.
