Abstract

An individual's self-disclosure can be influenced by various things, one of which is interpersonal communication. This study aims to see whether there is a relationship between interpersonal communication with parents and self-disclosure in students of the Faculty of Psychology, Makassar State University. Respondents in this study numbered 323 people with the criteria of students of the Faculty of Psychology, Makassar State University. The measuring instrument used in this study was the scale of interpersonal communication and self-disclosure. The data in this study were analyzed using the Spearman Rho test. The results of the data analysis showed a significance value of 0.001, meaning that there is a relationship between interpersonal communication with parents and self-disclosure. The r value obtained was 0.12, indicating that interpersonal communication with parents has a positive relationship with students' self-disclosure. The implications of this study are that it can contribute to the development of knowledge related to interpersonal communication with parents and self-disclosure, and be used as a guideline for students and parents.

Abstract

Social media is a need for information and entertainment facilities, especially the Instagram application. Instagram is currently the most popular social media platform. Instagram has many interesting features, such as photo and video sharing, that allow users to present themselves on social media to increase self-esteem. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference in self-esteem of Instagram users who make upward and downward social comparisons. This study used quantitative methods, and there were 334 subjects with 87 people (26%) men and 247 people (74%) women, most individuals who were part of the survey sample were within the age range of 18 to 34 years. This research found that early adult Instagram users in Makassar had differences in self-esteem regarding upward and downward, with a significance of 0.00 with women having higher self-esteem than men. In addition, the results of this study found that men and women have differences in self-esteem, with women having higher self-esteem compared to men. This research also found that women more often compare themselves based on both aspects, namely opinions, and abilities, compared to men. AbstrakMedia sosial merupakan kebutuhan akan informasi dan sarana hiburan. Instagram merupakan platform media sosial yang paling banyak digunakan. Instagram memungkinkan penggunanya dapat menampilkan diri mereka di media sosial untuk meningkatkan harga diri. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan harga diri pengguna Instagram yang melakukan perbandingan sosial ke atas dan ke bawah. Studi ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif, dan subjek berjumlah 334 dengan 87 orang (26%) laki-laki dan 247 orang (74%) perempuan, yang berada dalam rentang usia 18 hingga 34 tahun. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa pengguna Instagram dewasa awal di Kota Makassar memiliki perbedaan harga diri terhadap perbandingan sosial ke atas dan ke bawah, dengan signifikansi 0,00 dengan perempuan memiliki harga diri yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan laki-laki. Selain itu, hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa laki-laki dan perempuan memiliki perbedaan dalam harga diri, dengan perempuan memiliki harga diri yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan laki-laki. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa perempuan lebih sering membandingkan diri mereka berdasarkan kedua aspek, yaitu pendapat dan kemampuan, dibandingkan dengan laki-laki.
