Abstract

Program pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk memotivasi siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dengan melakukan pendekatan pembelajaran dengan konsep “Fun with English”. Kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk mengubah persepsi siswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Bahasa Inggris yang sebelumnya dianggap membosankan, tetapi saat ini menjadi pengalaman yang menarik dan menyenangkan. Sasaran pelatihan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris ini adalah siswa/siswi kelas 12 dari SMA Negeri 1 Batu Putih. Pelatihan bahasa Inggris ini dilakukan dengan metode pengajaran yang mengutamakan collaborative learning dan menyenangkan. Dampak dari kegiatan ini yaitu siswa tidak lagi menganggap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai pembelajaran yang tidak menarik, tetapi menjadi pembelajaran yang memberikan pengalaman baru yang menarik dan menyenangkan.

Abstract

The study aimed to know the strategies used by teachers at S.M.A. Negeri 1 Palopo to teach speaking skills. This thesis employed Qualitative Method. The writer applied the purposive sampling technique to obtain the samples of the study. In getting data, the writer examined two English teachers in S.M.A. Negeri 1 Palopo. The writer also used observation-checklist, semi-structured interviews, and reports to get the data. The result of this study showed that teacher 1 used discussion, role-play, brainstorming, writing, conversation, blogging, picture description, and learning assignment. While teacher 2 used conversation, modeling, role-play, brainstorming, writing, questioning, reading, explaining, and playing ice hockey. Both teachers use various strategies in teaching speaking.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out whether the use of story mapping technique effective to improve students’ writing recount text at the first grade of SMAN 1 Palopo. This research applied quasi experimental. The research was carried out in two classes, experimental and control classes. The population of this research was the first grade students of SMAN 1 Palopo. The samples of this research were Class X MIPA 2 as a control class and Class X IPA 3 as experimental class. The sampling technique in this research was random sampling. The instrument of this research was writing test. The writer gave pretest and posttest to the students. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 20.The result of this research showed that the use of story mapping technique in teaching writing recount text is effective. It could be seen from the result of calculation that the students’ score in experimental class which was higher than students’ score in control class. The mean score of posttest in experimental class was higher than the mean score of pretest (76.7667>61.6667). While in control class the mean score of posttest was also higher than the mean score of pretest (71.0667>67.8000). It means that there was significant difference between the students’ score in teaching writing recount text by using story mapping technique and students’ score in teaching writing recount text without using story mapping technique at the first grade of SMAN 1 Palopo.

Abstract

This paper investigated the pronunciation especially about the labiodental fricative sound by Students with a Buginese background in the English Department at Tarbiyah Faculty and Teacher Training in 2019-2020. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of students with Buginese backgrounds to produce labiodental fricative sounds in English. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method.The populations were Buginese students in English department at the Tarbiyah Faculty and Teacher Training at IAIN Palopo. To choose the samples, the writersused a purposive sampling technique, in which the researchers took 10 samples divided into several levels, namely 2 people from the second semester, 2 people from the fourth semester, 4 people from the sixth semester, and 2 people from the eighth semester. All samples are students with Buginese background. From a series of studies that have been carried out, the results obtained in this research are students with a Buginese background get some problems in English pronunciation, especially in labiodental fricative / f / and / v / sounds. Because the Buginese language does not have labiodental fricative sounds and there are transfer errors made by students when pronouncing English words.
