Abstract

Background: Acute respiratory infection (ARIs) continue to be leading cause of acute illnesses and remain the most main cause of infant and young children mortality worldwide, accounting for about two million deaths each year and ranking first among cause of disability-adjusted life-years lost in developing countries. This research aims to get information of risk factors ARIs in children under 5 years old at puskesmas Sibela Surakarta. Methods: This study was a descriptive analytical research using cross sectional approach implemented in April 2012 at puskesmas Sibela Surakarta. Total respondents were 60 people (30 case and 30 controls). Sample was taken by fixed disease sampling whereas children are taken randomly based on inclusion and exclusion criteria that are defined previously. Analysis of data was multivariate with logistic regression, using SPSS program version 17 for windows. Results: Factor proven as risk factor of ARIs were smokers family member (p = 0,047 ;OR 3,728; 95% CI 1,015 – 13,696) and infected family member  (p = 0,001; OR 12,728; 95% CI 2,912 – 55,626). Factor unproven as risk factors of ARIs were nutritional status (it could not be analyzed) and immunization status (p = 0,902; OR 1,233; 95% CI 0,044 – 34,285). Conclusions: Factor proven as risk factor of ARIs in children under 5 years were smoker family member and infected family member. Factor unproven as risk factors were nutritional and immunization status. Keywords: ARI, children, risk factor

Abstract

Background: Combined oral contraception is one of contraception methods that contains estrogen and progesterone. Both of that hormones have an effect on blood pressure levels because of the using duration of combined oral contraception, Body Mass Index (BMI), and acceptor age. The purpose of this research is to analyze the correlation between the using duration of combined oral contraception and blood pressure levels among fertile women in Jaten area, Karanganyar. Methods: This research used observational cross sectional analytic approach method. The population were fertile women who use combined oral contraception. The total sample were 48 patients who appropriate with inclusion and exclusion criterias. The data were collected by kuesioner, interview, anthropometry measurement, and blood pressure direct measurement. Those variables such as the using duration of combined oral contraception, blood pressure levels (systolic and diastolic), age, and body mass index (BMI) were analyzed using Kolmogorof-Smirnov’s test of normality and linear regression analysis using SPSS 16 for Windows. Results: The result of simple statistic test using linear regression showed the correlation significancy between the using duration of combined oral contraception and blood pressure levels, both systolic (p=0,004) and diastolic (p=0,012). Conclusions: There is a correlation between the using duration of combined oral contraception and blood pressure levels among fertile women. Keywords: The using duration of combined oral contraception, Blood Pressure, Age, Body mass index

Abstract

Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) refer to group of airflow obstruction diseases characterized by fundamental physiologic problems, they are increased resistance to airflow as a result of caliber reduction of conducting airways and chronic airway inflammation. Sleep requirement is so important for everyone’s life quality, however their sleep need depends upon many factors such as physiological factors. Asthma and COPD patients may suffer nocturnal symptom or other typical symptom presentation. This study aimed to find out the difference of sleeping quality between asthmatic patients and COPD patients. This study was an analytical observational with cross-sectional approach. The subjects were selected by purposive sampling technique. A total of 60 subjects consisted of 30 asthmatic patients and 30 COPD patients from outpatients who visited the pulmonary clinics of RSUD DR. Moewardi from April to May 2013. The data were collected using direct interview to fill KSPBJ-IRS (Kelompok Studi Psikiatri Bilogik Jakarta-Insomnia Rating Scale) questionnaire. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using Chi-Square test on Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) 20.00 for Windows. There is no significant difference of sleep quality between asthmatic patients and COPD patients. According to Chi-Square test results, p-value is 0,301; p > 0,05. From this study it can be concluded that the obtained, there is no difference of sleep quality between asthmatic patients and COPD patients. Keywords: Sleep Quality, Asthma, COPD
