Abstract

In this paper, I want to give description and analysis concerning the meaning of the term political community. This paper also can be seen as a participation in the perennial debates concerning the problem of the order in the philosophy of social sciences. I will use phenomenology as a method to approach this problem as it developed by John Drummond and Edmund Husserl. The main argument is that the political community is a social fact that develop through hypothesis, and a hyphotesis that based always on social fact. In the end, I will give my critical remarks on this argument.

Abstract

Education is the backbone of a civilized society. In the democratic society, education plays an important role to create, spread, and maintain the democratic ideals. That is the main idea in Noam Chomsky’s philosophy of education. There is a deep connection between democratic principles on the one hand, and democratic education paradigm on the other hand. However, these ideal is threatened by authoritarian way of thinking that exist in totalitarian ideology and capitalistic way of thinking. These two ideologies repress human freedom, and destroy democratic culture which is the bed rock of democratic society. Chomsky offers us a knowledge concerning the way to redesign education in facing the challenges of democratic society.

Abstract

Dapat dikatakan bahwa ada hubungan internal antara tuntutan mengembangkan modal ekonomi dan iman pada Allah. Ini adalah tesis pokok analisa Max Weber atas Protestantisme di Eropa Barat. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan tesis ini sambil melihat relevansinya dan memberikan catatan-catatan kritis. Analisis Max Weber mengenai etika Protestantisme dapat membantu kita memaknai munculnya kapitalisme modern di Indonesia. Dengan memberikan kritik atas pemikiran Weber penulis mengambil kesimpulan bahwa kegiatan ekonomi membutuhkan kebijakan pemerintah di satu sisi dan cara hidup masyarakat yang masuk akal, di lain sisi.

Abstract

Setelah krisis ekonomi tahun 2008, banyak ahli menyadari, bahwa dunia membutuhkan sistem baru ekonomi global. Model sebelumnya, yang masih dimanfaatkan oleh banyak negara, adalah sistem ekonomi kapitalis, yang mengejar keuntungan sebanyak-banyaknya dan yang masih memainkan peran besar sebagai satu-satunya tujuan ekonomi. Felber berpendapat, bahwa sistem ini cacat dan menyebabkan banyak krisis, yang membuat banyak orang menderita. Menurut dia, dunia membutuhkan paradigma baru ekonomi, yang dapat menciptakan stabilitas dan kesejahteraan bagi semua orang. Dia lalu menteorikan system kesejahteraan ekonomi. Saya akan mencoba untuk menyajikan gagasannya tentang kesejahteraan ekonomi dan juga mencoba untuk menunjukkan, bagaimana paradigma ini dapat diimplementasikan dalam konteks Indonesia. Saya juga akan memberikan beberapa pertimbangan penting, yang kiranya bermanfaat demi perkembangan teori ini.

Abstract

This article describes the core meaning of integrity as the unity of person in the philosophy of Julian Nida-Rümelin. This concept is deeply embedded in the tradition of humanistic education. The method of this research is critical analysis on the book of Nida-Rümelin with title Philosophie einer humanen Bildung. Several critical remarks will also be given on the argument of this book. This article refers also the previous published books and articles by the article’s author. The education of human integrity means that the whole system and paradigm of education focus on the development of human being as a whole. The purpose is to create balanced and wholly integrated human being, which is an important point in the tradition of humanistic education. Tulisan ini menjabarkan inti pandangan Julian Nida-Rümelin tentang konsep kesatuan pribadi sebagai proses pendidikan integritas di dalam tradisi pendidikan humanis. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis kritis terhadap tulisan Nida-Rümelin di dalam buku Philosophie einer humanen Bildung, sekaligus dengan mengacu pada penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh penulis artikel ini sebelumnya. Beberapa tanggapan kritis juga akan diberikan terhadap pandangan Nida-Rümelin ini. Mendidik integritas berarti mendidik manusia dalam keseluruhan unsur dirinya. Ia menciptakan keseimbangan yang merupakan hal yang amat penting di dalam tradisi pendidikan humanis.

Abstract

Remembering is a social action. It assumes the existence of certain social context as a background. It uses also language and various symbols which also a product of collectivity. Memory is also the foundation of identity in both personal and social levels. Collective self image of a society is formed by its collective memory and interpretation of events in the past. However, with the development of information and communication technology, collective memory experiences crisis. It changes to a mere technical information without meaning. This does not change the importance of collective memory. In Indonesian context, collective memory plays a very important role as the foundation of reconciliation in the context of 1965 events.This article is inspired by Maurice Halbwachs, Jan Assmann and Aleida Assmann.

Abstract

Husserl wrote a book Die Krisis der europäischen Wissenschaft und die transzendentale Phänomenologie, eine Einleitung in die phänomenologische Philosophie as an effort to understand the situations in Europe at the begining of 20th century. He saw that Europe experienced crisis of cilivation that has root in the crisis of reason itself. Husserl tried to analyze the root of this crisis and provided possible solutions in the form of transcendental phenomenology. One of the most important concept in the transcendental phenomenology is the concept of lifeworld.Hussserl’s arguments are still relevant to understand our current situations in the begining of 21th century. However, several assumptions of his arguments have to be read critically

Abstract

Inspired by Charles Taylor’s Political Philosophy, the author will argue that to become a meaningful society, Indonesian society first of all has to respect various forms of life in the society. The various forms of life have to live authentically according to its identity, value, and customs in relation with other forms of life that co-exist in the society. The author will also try to apply Taylor’s political philosophy in the context of Indonesian society. In the end, Indonesian context can give certain critical remarks to the development of Taylor’s philosophy
