Abstract

There are numerous researches conducted on the issues related to ISO 9001 quality management system. Among the issue is the impact of the ISO 9001 quality management system implementation on the performance of the organization. However the findings from the research appeared as inconclusive. Few literature suggest that the inconclusive result may due to the level of ISO 9000 implementation therefore further research is required. Generally the data collected for these types of researches are through mailed questionnaires and analyzed it using SPSS and SEM. In line with that this study also developed questionnaires correspond to a 5 point Likert to assess the implementation of ISO 9000 in the organization. As a result 231 items are identified within five dimensions. The five dimensions are derived from ISO 9001 and ISO 9004 quality management standards requirement and guidelines. Among the dimensions are management responsibility, resource management, product realization, measurement improvement and innovation and organizational performance. The questionnaires are sent to 78 automotive based companies located in the Northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. 19 questionnaires were returned and used as pilot test to validate and calibrate the instrument. The responds from the organization are tabulated and run in WinSteps software for the purpose of validating and calibrating the instrument by implementing the Rasch ‘quality control’ and reduction of items. Not all the outfit items are removed from the instruments, Rasch Model did provide room for the researcher to make decision either to remove or not those outfit items. In this study those outfit items need to be corrected in order to ensure that the instrument is reliable and fit to measure the performance of the organization. As a result 68 items are removed from the questionnaires.Keyword: rasch model, ISO 9001, quality control and items reduction.

Abstract

The old dichotomy between product and service has been replaced by a service-product continuum. In the management literature this is referred to as the Servitization of Products. This shift in business model is important because it means the interests of clients and providers are much more closely aligned. Broiler meat is the primary and most popular source of dietary protein in Malaysia. Malaysian Broiler poultry meat production in 2015 was 1,520,000 tones, primarily through contract farming. Though the broiler industry has attained high level of productivity and growth with efficient and innovative ways at their credit; the general, mainstream, servitization concept is highly skewed in industrys favour, with minimal attention given to the negative health effects on consumers. In fact, the servitization concept has turned into inimical servitization term contrived by the author. This paper explains the concept of servitization, inimical servitization, and Product Service System (PSS); elaborates on the Malaysian broiler industry production practices; and highlights the health and environmental issues pertaining to broiler meat birds welfare and consumers. Finally the paper concludes that the excessive growth speed creates numerous health and environmental problems for the meat birds and consumers alike. There is a dire need to establish guidelines and mechanism to monitor the production process of the broiler industry in order to safeguard the consumers and meat birds welfare and prevent environmental degradation. Broiler industry should earnestly apply PSS criterion on the broiler supply chain.

Abstract

This paper conceptualizes the supply chain integration and technological innovation for business performance of aquaculture contract farming landscape in Malaysia. Based upon the SCM philosophy, it highlights on the three related variables of supply chain integration, namely: external integration with suppliers, external integration with customers and supply chain risks, and technological innovation, and the relation amongst the variables in focus that perhaps could produce possible promising business performance. Hence, ability to conceptualize, observe and give due recognition to the possible relation amongst these variables in question by the prospective aquaculture contract farming participants, perhaps could bring about an insightful engagement for the betterment of the aquaculture business performance.

Abstract

The current knowledge-innovation led economy has regards social innovation and strategic knowledge management processes as a vital combination in addressing social, economic and technological problems in a concurrent way. Strategic knowledge management processes that consist the process of knowledge creation, knowledge transfer and knowledge application creates superior knowledge resource that can be embedded into products, processes and services which makes them highly innovative and ultimately contributes towards improving social well-being, enhance economic growth and also improving technological aspect. In similar vein, supply chain management is an integrated system and network which involves the connection process of supplier-end user relationship in terms of producing and delivering of a product, processes and services to the end users. The various network integration processes within the supply chain management system involves different background and motives of actors which may exposed the system into risks that perhaps may disrupt and affect the supply chain performance. Thus, this paper explores and gives a useful insight on the contribution of superior knowledge resource created within the processes of strategic knowledge management among actors in the supply chain management network. The new superior knowledge resource works as a vital solution to enhance the performance process of supply chain management network by improving external integration with suppliers, external integration with customers, and supply chain risk and therefore, helps to improving the quality of peoples life, stimulate economic growth and enhance technological advances i.e. social innovation.
