Abstract

Abstract

Safety equipment is an important aspect in supporting the security of a voyage. The importance of having safety equipment, especially Lifeboats on board, is a serious matter that cannot be underestimated. Carrying out regular maintenance of safety equipment is an effort to prevent and overcome marine transportation accidents. The maintenance and operation of lifeboats is not just a routine, but is a series of activities for the crew that requires a lot of attention and is supported by good manpower management. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of knowledge of the crew regarding the maintenance of lifeboats and their impact on the safety of the crew. This study uses qualitative methods, data collection is carried out by interviewing the crew, documentation, and conducting observations to obtain primary data and will then be used as guidelines for drawing conclusions. The results showed that the maintenance of lifeboat safety equipment according to procedures had an important influence in reducing the risk of accidents and fatalities.

Abstract

The lubrication system on the main engine plays a crucial role in maintaining optimal engine performance during operation. Its function is to lubricate moving engine components, lower engine temperature, reduce vibration, and protect core components from corrosive substances so that engine performance will always be maintained and can support the smooth operation of the ship, from the researcher's observation of the mother machine in KM. Tonasa Lines found that the main engine had a problem with the lubricating oil part, namely the dropped lubricating oil pressure. This study is directed to determine the cause, impact of the pressure drop, and handling steps so that the main machine can work normally again. This study applied the FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) method to understand the causes and effects of decreased lubricating oil pressure. The results showed that the decrease in lubricating oil pressure was caused by a pump not functioning optimally and blockages in the lubricating oil filter. This results in inefficient lubrication of the main engine. Decreased lubricating oil pressure that reaches 2.0 kg/cm2 increases the main engine's temperature. The recommended solution to restore the lubricating oil pressure to the normal pressure of 3.0 kg/cm2 is to add lubricating oil to the degraded/reduced Lubricating Oil Tank. In addition, it is important always to ensure the cleanliness of lubricating oil filters, monitor pump RPM through routine maintenance, and document any incidents in log books.

Abstract

Jepara Ferry Port is located in Jepara Regency, Central Java Province. The Jepara Ferry Port has three vessels in operation, namely KMP.Siginjai, KMC.Express Bahari 1C and KMC.Express Bahari 3F. There are several services that do not comply with regulations and are carried out by ship operators, even though the services on board have been regulated by the government to provide a sense of security and comfort during the crossing. This research aims to determine the level of suitability of ferry transportation services at KMP. Siginjai on the current conditions regarding Minimum Service Standards and knowing the service attributes that need to be improved on a priority scale. The method used is analysis of the level of suitability of SPM for ferry transportation and IPA to determine service attributes that need to be improved on a priority scale. Based on the results of the analysis and calculations, it was found that KMP.Siginjai had a suitability level for passenger services, namely 69.35%, KMP.Siginjai vehicle loading services, namely 75%, ship operation services, namely 100% and the results obtained were that service attributes needed to be improved on a priority scale for aspects Passenger services include first aid kits which are not yet available, security officers, reclining seats and sofas, separate toilets and passenger baggage facilities. In vehicle loading services, the attributes on the priority scale are evacuation routes, distance between vehicles and the distance between the ship wall and the vehicle and a light intensity of 200 – 300 Lux. The strategy offered to increase comfort and satisfaction is to provide facilities that are located on a priority scale.
