Abstract

This study was carried out to respectively illustrate the casual conversation features in terms of spontaneity, interactivity, interpersonally, and coherence. The casual conversation analyzed was a conversation of two non-native English speakers who are an English teacher and a student at a convenient situation. The conversation lasted for eighteen minutes was transcribed. Results showed that S1 dominantly used features of spontaneity on the field of repetition, incomplete utterances, and chunks. On the features of interactivity, S2 is more cooperative than S1. In addition, on the feature of interpersonally, both speakers seemed to appeal more agreement. Thus, in terms of coherence, both speakers can run the conversation smoothly. The two speakers were still making conversation in line with the topic although they changed the topic three times.

Abstract

Semarang Regency which has 19 sub-districts and 27 villages is an area with the industrial sector which is the largest contributor to the economy. So, the majority of the population is factory workers. The industrial center is in the Ungaran area which is the administrative center. Beji Village is one of the villages in the East Ungaran sub-district where the majority of the people work in industry. The majority of the workers are mothers. These women also participate in PKK activities, which are community activities that are held once a month. Because of their performance, the majority are factory workers, so that the administration in PKK activities still needs a lot of assistance. With administrative assistance, especially to make the work of these women more effective, the Google Form can be their solution as PKK movers to collect citizen data as PKK administrative data material.

Abstract

In this globalization era, students are forced to understand the basic knowledge of digital literacy because of the transformation in the learning activity. Therefore, digital literacy also can be the medium to learn and develop students’ English communicative competence. English communicative competence can be accomplished in many ways, but digital literacy is also taking a serious role in it. This study pointed to discover the correlation between students’ digital literacy and English communicative competence. This study used a closed-ended questionnaire and an open-ended interview as instruments for a correlational investigation that was linked to a quantitative study. The participants in this study were fourth-semester UNISSULA English Education understudies. The results of this study revealed a shaky link between students' digital literacy and English communicative skills. It was established that the correlational coefficient value was less than the r table score of 0.350 0.432, which is between 0.20 and 0.399 in terms of correlation coefficient interpretation. It can be described that the correlation coefficient between students’ digital literacy and English communicative competence is weak. Although the correlation was weak, but digital literacy had an essential impact on students’ English communicative competence. Then, it can also be said that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out if there was a positive correlation between students' vocabulary skills and descriptive reading. These was a correlational research methodology by using test of students’ vocabulary knowledge and assess descriptive reading skills. The study used SPSS to assess the relation between students' vocabulary knowledge and descriptive reading skills. The significant value was 0.000 ≤ 0.005, indicating that there was a relation among vocabulary competency and descriptive reading ability among the students. According to the data, 0.700 is the value of the correlation coefficient. So, based on ranges of correlation from 0.60 up to 0.799, it is clear that there was a strong degree of relevance relationship which means that the correlation was indicating a high level of correlation.
