Abstract

The negative impacts or side effects of a damper circuit insertion in an LCL passive filter utilized to filter DC/AC inverters output voltage is presented in this paper. For comparative study, this paper discusses two damping configurations, namely series and parallel damping, as well as the LCL filter without damping element. Four criteria are used to explore the impacts of the damper circuits, i.e. their totalĀ  harmonic distortions (THDs), the output voltage amplitude, the output power and the power efficiency. Theoretically and emphirically shown by previous studies, the damper can indeed reduce the peak resonance frequency of the filter in its frequency response curve. However, in any circumstance, it can potentially reduce the inverters power and efficiency, voltage output amplitude, and cannot improve its THD reduction. The analysis results have shown that the side effects depends also on the load conditions, which are different for each damping circuit configuration.

Abstract

In current PLC-based SCADA systems, sensor and actuator are generally connected to a PLC by wire. The wire however has many limitations, especially in term of flexibility. In the PLC-based SCADA system by wire, the number of the installed PLC will increase for each location that will be monitored and controlled. This research aims to design and implement a low cost, low power and reliable wireless sensor and actuator system, which can be used in the PLC-based SCADA system to overcome the limitations of wire media. The wirelesssensor and actuator system can also be used as an alternative to reduce the amount of the used PLC within the SCADA system. In this research, we have designed a wireless sensor and actuator system based on WPAN technology (IEEE 802.15.4), which is low cost, low power, and reliable. The results reveal that the wireless sensor and actuator system is able to operate well when they are implemented on the PLC-based SCADA system used to monitor and control the water filtration process in the tub filtration.

Abstract

This paper presents the design, simulation and harmonic analysis of a one-phase inverter circuit. The impacts of the used passive filter and the used of snubber on the quality of the voltage output of the one-phase inverter, which used full-bridge configuration, were described in this paper. The passive LC filter using the combination of an inductor and capacitor was configured in parallel with the load, such that the voltage output waveform can be modified from modulated pulse waveform into purely sinusoidal waveform. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the voltage output can be well reduced by using such LC passive filter. The circuit was designed and modeled in SPICE program code, then simulated and analysed. The result shows that the use of Zener Diode as a circuit snubber is able to improve the power characteristic and voltage magnitude of the designed inverter as compared to commonly used Diode.
