Abstract

The smart building campus is still being studied by researchers until now. Given the importance of meeting key performance indicators on smart campuses. Medan Area University is a campus that uses a smart grid system to solve energy management problems. With the position of the Medan Area University being in an area that has the potential to utilize photovoltaic (PV) solar renewable energy sources. With the designation of Google Earth data, the average sunlight intensity in the campus area is 4,528 KWh/m2. The design of the smart grid system is carried out by making solar PV solar as the main source and 4 computers as loads. The fuzzy method was chosen in the smart grid system simulation that has been designed because the fuzzy method can provide decisions in the intersection area. To facilitate analysis The MATLAB program is used to assist in the simulation. So that the output can show results that are close to real conditions. Based on 144 hours of data that has been entered into the fuzzy method, the output shows the results are appropriate to be implemented.

Abstract

The utilization of well-managed electrical energy sources will result in high energy efficiency and reliability. Smart grid uses electricity management with 2-way communication that allows loads and sources to corporate each other. Campus is a place that requires priority in the availability of energy and it requires smart grid management. This research will contain smart grid management systems on campus that use multisource to fulfil dynamic loads conditions so as to produce optimal smart grid management. The method that use to analysis the system is conventional method. The optimal smart grid achieved by analysis the sources and loads energy needed and then create a management system that have substantial impact on campus electrical system. The results of this research that smart grid system ensures electrical conditions for the needs of these dynamic loads can be fulfilled which is without a smart grid there is lack of energy for 3 days, whereas with a smart grid there is no lack of energy in the campus building. Keywords : Smart Grid, Campus, Management

Abstract

Lighting systems that are not up to standard will have an impact on eye fatigue so that the work results of the staff are not optimal. This problem can be solved by designing a lighting system according to the standards that have been determined through the results of previous studies. The 1st floor of the Faculty Engineering, Universitas Medan Area building requires lighting improvements to provide comfort to all staff and lecturers. This research was conducted by measuring the value of light intensity in each room and improving the lighting system which was analyzed through the shape of the room, the color of the walls, and the position of the lights. The results of the study provide additional light points and the position of the lamp according to the utilization.

Abstract

Electrical energy has an important role in human life today. Many aspects of human life today rely on electrical energy. National electrical energy defense is an important issue so that Indonesia can become an independent nation in the field of electrical energy sources. Strategies in realizing this issue can be implemented by fostering the interests and talents of upper secondary level students so that the students will explore the field of electricity science. Training on simple electricity generation was conducted for students of Budi Utomo Binjai Private Vocational School so that the students could improve their skills and insight on electricity. The training was carried out by providing an understanding of the role and condition of current electricity, the design of a simple electric power plant, and providing insights on renewable energy. The results of the design during the training are given to the school which can be used as a medium of learning for students in the future. Based on the results of the questionnaire given to students during training it can be seen that 61% of the total number of students participating in training activities can have sufficiently good skills in designing simple electric power plants.

Abstract

Abstract

The power generation system with hybrid system grid connected (HSGC) technology is an energy-saving technology that is able to compensate for electricity loads in an energy-efficient manner in today's technological advances. Electrical transient analyzer power (ETAP) simulation software is implemented so that the modeling will have an impact on the development of hybrid systems. Testing the reliability of the system is simulated at the load of school buildings, laboratories, mosques, and kindergarten schools. parameters obtained by evaluating the ratio of the voltage drop before and after the addition of photovoltaic. The value of the voltage drops decreases with the integration of hybrid photovoltaic. The school building panels experienced a voltage drop of 0.15%, reduced after the addition of photovoltaics and wind turbines. Then on the Laboratory panel, a voltage drops of 0.05% was obtained, on the mosque panel the voltage drop reached 0.11%, and on the kindergarten building panel the voltage drop reached 0.09% after the addition of photovoltaic hybrid. From this comparison it can be said that PV and wind turbines can affect the voltage drop and reduce the consumption of electricity loads from the grid caused by adding power from the hybrid photovoltaic hybrid to each load.

Abstract

Medan Area University is one of the private universities in North Sumatra that is also involved in the development of renewable energy technology. This technological development has initiated the University's efforts to develop an electrical system by developing a smart grid system in order to reduce the University's operational costs. However, in its realization, it has its own challenges, such as power flow stability and transient stability. Both problems can be analyzed using ETAP 12.6 software. In one of the cases analyzed, the smart grid system can reduce the use of the active power of the transformer by 11 kW and a current of 19.7 Amp. Meanwhile, in the Indonesian State Electricity Company (PLN) off condition, the smart grid system has not been able to supply the load because the availability of renewable energy sources is not sufficient for the load requirement. As well as the results of the voltage and frequency analysis, the highest voltage is 376.4 Volts, the lowest is 375.9 Volts, which is still in the stable category of 380 Volt voltage deviation because it is not +5% and -10%, and the overall frequency of the cases discussed is consistent stable at nominal 50 Hz.

Abstract

Research has been conducted on the study of the effect of NaCl electrolyte on Pb-PbO2 electrode batteries. So far, H2SO4 battery electrolyte can have a negative impact, one of which can irritate the skin, it will even become toxic when inhaled by humans. For this reason, I tried to replace the use of the H2SO4 electrolyte with NaCl electrolyte so that a voltage of 6.73 volts was obtained while the H2SO4 electrolyte reached a voltage of 12 volts with an electrolyte that was more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the NaCl electrolyte will be developed to increase the voltage yield equal to the H2SO4 electrolyte.
