Abstract

One of the key strategies to stop the increase of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases is vaccines. The uncertainty and refusal of Filipinos to get the COVID-19 vaccine will be a crucial barrier to achieve the immunization coverage required for population protection. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the knowledge and attitude of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology students and faculty and staff towards the COVID-19 vaccine. A descriptive study approach and total sampling were adopted. A questionnaire was constructed to accumulate data on the respondents' profile, knowledge, attitude and source of information about the vaccine for COVID-19. Informed consent and permission to conduct were acquired. Various statistical tools were used to analyze the data. The respondents were knowledgeable and had positive attitude towards the COVID-19 vaccine. Their primary source of information was from social media on the internet and television. There is a positive association between their attitude and knowledge of the COVID-19 vaccine, which means that they are closer to having a positive attitude when they are knowledgeable about the COVID-19 vaccine. Therefore, health education campaigns to increase their knowledge or awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine should encourage them to receive a COVID-19 vaccine shot.

Abstract

Vaccines are life-saving technology that has led to the eradication, containment, or control of infectious illnesses around the globe. Many factors affect the vaccine acceptability of an individual. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine acceptability and the willingness of the students, faculty and staff of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) to get vaccinated. A descriptive study approach and total sampling were adopted. A questionnaire was constructed to collect data on the respondents' profile, their source of information and statements regarding their acceptability and willingness to get vaccinated by the COVID-19 vaccine. Informed consent and permission to conduct were acquired. Various statistical tools were used to analyze the data. The vaccine acceptability was generally high and most was willing to get vaccinated. Their primary source of information was from television and social media on the internet. Their willingness to get vaccinated was influenced by their age, gender and the group where they belong in the university. Although more respondents are willing to get vaccinated, some still do not want to get vaccinated. Therefore, health education campaigns and vaccine promotion should be conducted to improve vaccine acceptance during the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract

One of the control measures to stop the transmission of COVID-19 was the implementation of a lockdown. However, after a few months of lockdown, previous research has found significant evidence of lockdown-related fatigue. Hence, the current study aimed to determine the lockdown fatigue of the students. A descriptive research design and total sampling were used. A questionnaire was developed to collect data about the sex and monthly income of the respondents and their level of lockdown fatigue and feelings after the lockdown. Permission to conduct and informed consent were obtained. Data were analyzed using various statistical tools. A total of 629 respondents participated in the study. Many of them were female and had a monthly income less than P11,690. Most of them had a moderate to high level of lockdown fatigue, and the difference in their profile was insignificant. After the lockdown period, they sometimes felt powerless, stressed, and angry, their problems were getting worse, and something unexpected would happen. Last, their feelings and lockdown fatigue level, after lockdown, had a significant positive relationship. Further studies regarding the efficacy and effectiveness of lockdowns, as well as any restriction that may jeopardize students’ health should be continually assessed by government authorities.
