Abstract

This study aimed to develop teaching materials to improve the mathematical understanding of the Pythagorean theorem material by using the development of teaching materials through the GeoGebra-assisted Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach. This study uses the Borg Gall model's research and Development (RnD) development method with the Borg Gall model. The researchers collected data through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and tests of mathematical understanding abilities. The population in this study was 80 students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah class VIII, with 30 students in a limited trial and 50 students in a broad trial. Data is processed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This research produced a teaching material with a Problem Based Learning approach assisted by Geogebra software on the Pythagorean theorem material and indicates that there is an increase in students' mathematical understanding abilities after being given learning using GeoGebra-assisted PBL approach teaching materials.

Abstract

This study was a pretest-posttest designed control group experiment, aimed at reviewing the role of inductive-deductive approach on Islamic Junior High School students’ skills in mathematical problem solving and self efficacy. This research involved 56 grade eight students, a set of problem solving ability tests and a set of self efficacy scale. The result found that in the extent of mathematical problem solving skills and self efficacy, students who received problem solving-based learning achieved better quality than students who received conventional learning, either overall or based on the early mathematical ability (EMA). The interaction between learning and EMA in achieving and increasing problem solving skill showed no significant difference. Other than that, we found robust association between mathematical problem solving skills and self efficacy.

Abstract

This study is a quasi experiment, aiming to describe the level of achievement of problem solving abilities, mathematical connections of students and the independence of junior high school students through metacognitive approach. The sample was chosen randomly from the class of all students of class IX in one of SMP Negeri in Karawang regency. The two class samples were chosen as control and experiment classes. Each of us uses a set of problem solving and mathematical connection tests and a set of learning independence scales. The study found that the attainment and improvement of problem solving ability and mathematical connection ability of students using metacognitive approach is better than the students whose learning is using normal learning in terms of the students' initial ability level. While different from the independence of students who learn learning using metacognitive approach is not better than students who use regular learning in terms of initial ability level of students. However, there is no interaction between the metacognitive approach and the student's initial ability level in generating problem solving skills and mathematical connections as well as learning independence which means that increased problem solving abilities and mathematical connections are largely influenced by the metacognitive approach.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop mathematics teaching materials assisted by geogebra media on the mathematical creative thinking abilities of seventh-grade students of junior high school. Implementation of teaching materials using geogebra-assisted media is a way to help students understand mathematics learning, especially in quadrilateral material. For the quality teaching materials to meet the criteria of being valid, practical, and effective. This research uses a type of research and development (R&D). In this research, a development model is used, namely the ADDIE model. The ADDIE model is a research and development model consisting of 5 (five) stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The results obtained from this study are the validity of teaching materials that are declared very valid with teaching materials that have been developed using geogebra assistance produces valid and practical teaching materials for the learning process with the results of an average validity value of 96.93% and an average practicality value of 94.6%. Suggestions that can be given are to take advantage of the teaching materials that have been developed so that educators or students can take advantage of teaching materials carried out remotely online or offline. Then other researchers can develop this teaching material on other mathematics material so that it can be utilized by other audiences.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the problem solving abilities of class VIII students in a junior high school in West Bandung Regency. In this study using a qualitative descriptive research method. Data collection techniques in this study were in the form of problem-solving skills tests and interviews. The results of the tests and interviews were analyzed for each item based on Polya's ability to solve problems. The test instruments used were test descriptions of problem solving questions and interview guidelines. Based on data analysis that refers to indicators of problem solving ability, the research results obtained that the indicator of solving problems obtained results of 87%, and on the other 3 indicators namely understanding the problem obtained results of 55%, planning problem solving obtained results of 30% and buying back problems obtained results of 20%. Thus, there were still a number of errors found in the results of student answers in solving problem-solving solutions including: not listing what was known, asked, and not describing these elements, the process of planning problem solving was not systematic, did not understand problems, errors in calculating answers, and not writing conclusions from the results of the settlement. Students are not used to solving problems in the form of stories with complex daily life contexts, which is a factor that is often found in junior high school students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the characteristics of the problem solving abilities of class VIII students in a junior high school in West Bandung Regency. In this study using a qualitative descriptive research method. The data collection technique in this study was in the form of test questions. The test results were analyzed by the emergence of problem solving abilities based on the Polya procedure for each question. The test instrument used is a description test. Based on data analysis of the study found that the stages of solving problems obtained 87% results, and at the other 3 stages namely understanding the problem obtained 55% results, planning problem solving obtained 30% results and checking again obtained 20 results %. Thus, there are still many students who do not write down what is known, are asked, and do not describe these elements, are not systematic in the problem solving process, do not understand the problem, are wrong in calculating answers, and do not write conclusions, and the main factor is not students are used to solving problems in the form of stories with complex daily life contexts, so there are still many errors in problem solving systematics found in junior high school students.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe how well students understood relational and functional mathematics. By examining the typical student responses to prepared instrument questions, descriptive qualitative research methodology is applied. The study's instrument was a written test of math comprehension that had six questions and three indicators of math understanding: classifying objects with specific properties in accordance with the concept, presenting the concept in various mathematical representations, and using a problem-solving strategy or algorithm. 30 pupils from SMPN 3 Ngamprah in grade VIII served as the study's subjects. According to the analysis's findings, class VIII pupils at SMPN 3 Ngamprah's mathematics knowledge abilities were rated as low, and students received a sufficient.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials using a contextual approach assisted by liveworksheets on statistical material. The research method used in this research is the R&D (Research and Development) method using the 4D model which is limited to step 3 namely define, design, develop. The instruments in this study were in the form of non-tests and written tests in the form of student response questionnaires with a total of 25 questions and 5 written test questions according to the steps of the contextual approach. The subjects of this study were class VIII students at one of the junior high schools in the Batujajar District with a sample of 30 class VIII students as respondents for the level of product effectiveness. The results of this study are that the teaching materials developed are declared valid and suitable for use, this is in accordance with the results of the validation of experts, as well as getting a positive response from students. So the teaching materials developed are good for use during the learning process of mathematics.
