Abstract

This paper presents a routing performance analysis of structured P2P overlay network. Due to the rapid development and hectic life, sharing data wirelessly is essential. P2P allows participating peers move freely by joining and leaving the network at any convenience time. Therefore, it exists constraint when one measuring the network performance. Moreover, the design of structured overlay networks is fragmented and with various design. P2P networks need to have a reliable routing protocol. In order to analyse the routing performance, this work simulates three structured overlay protocols-Chord, Pastry and Kademlia using OMNeT++ with INET and OverSim module. The result shows that Pastry is the best among others with 100% routing efficiency. However, Kademlia leads with 12.76% and 18.78% better than Chord and Pastry in lookup hop count and lookup success latency respectively. Hence, Pastry and Kamelia architectures will have a better choice for implementing structured overlay P2P network.

Abstract

Attendance is important for university students. However, generic way of taking attendance in universities may include various problems. Hence, a face recognition system for attendance taking is one way to combat the problem. This paper will present an automated system that will automatically saves student’s attendance into the database using face recognition method. The paper will elaborate on student attendance system, image processing, face detection and face recognition. The face detection part will be done by using viola-jones algorithm method while the face recognition part will be carried on by using local binary pattern (LBP) method. The system will ensure that the attendance taking process will be faster and more accurate.

Abstract

Generation of high traffic from continuous sensing and collection of medical data from various biosensors on multiple body is most likely to occur in the Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). This could be a factor to the congestion in the network. Occurrence of congestion would collapse the performances in the WBAN network in terms of increment in delay, high packets loss, reduction in throughput and packet deliver ratio (PDR). The crucial concerns in WBAN are prevention from the loss of critical data and longer delay in the network as they could result to late delivery of medical treatment and possibility of the increase in mortality. Therefore, this study proposes a mechanism to alleviate the congestion from happening in the first place through discarding the corrupted packets before the beginning of data transmission to the base station. Extensive simulations are done in OMNeT+ to analyze the performance of the proposed mechanism by varying traffic from low to high under different number of nodes and constant Bit Error Rate (BER) and packet size. From the finding, it can be concluded that the proposed mechanism shows better performances in terms of low delay and packet loss as well as high throughput and PDR compared to typical WBAN.

Abstract

This paper presents the effect of cantilever width on the displacement pattern for low power acoustic energy propagation. A single layer cantilever configuration is used to design the harvester with Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT-5H). The device is designed with 10×(1 to 10)×0.62 mm dimension. The displacements of the cantilever are obtained through the simulation analysis. The maximum displacements are found of 9.80E-28 mm with the smallest width while minimum displacement is found from 5 mm width. From the results, it is obvious that, smaller width can result larger displacements, however, rectangular and square cantilever shape can be advantageous for low power applications.

Abstract

Vehicular adhoc network (VANET) has a significant potential in reducing traffic congestion to provide a stress-free and safer platform for road drivers to travel on the road. However, the current VANET is vulnerable to several challenges which need to be overcome. Congestion control is considered as one of the main challenges in VANET due to the high dynamic topology characteristic. Reliable congestion control (CC) are necessary to provide effectient dissemination of time-critical safety messages in VANET applications; safety and non-safety applications. In this paper, we present the overview on VANET, its application and challenges. We also discuss on the congestion control and provide a brief survey on the congestion control algorithms such as vehicular cloud computing, multiplicative rate decreasing algorithm, multi-objective Tabu search, D-FPAV algorithm and beaconing strategies which have been proposed in order to provide better solutions towards achieving a successful Smart Tranporation System.

Abstract

The paper presents the snake species identification by using natural language processing. It aims to help medical professionals in predicting the snake species for snake-bite treatments based on the patient’s description of the snake. The decision in suitable anti-venom critically depends on the type of snake species. Wrong anti-venom may result in severe morbidity and mortality. This research investigates the human perception and the selection of words in describing a snake based on their visual view. The descriptions were presented in unstructured text, and the NLP processing involves pre-processing, feature extraction and classification. Four machine learning algorithms (naïve Bayes, k-Nearest Neighbour, Support Vector Machine, and Decision Trees J48) were used during training and classification. Our results show that J48 algorithm obtained the highest classification accuracy of 71.6% correct prediction for the NLP-Snake data set with high precision and recall.
