Using Concept Mapping to Build Concept the Competence of School Principals Mustamin Mustamin; M. Al Muzammil bin Hj. Mohd Yasin

More and more the competence concept of school principals have an impact on two conditions, namely: (1) to develop the concept can complement and support each other; and (2) to develop the concept of possible contradict, giving rise to different interpretations. Therefore, this becomes the main issue researchers to identify the competence concept of school principals with adaptation of Jackson-Trochim method that is capable of illustrating the concept of competencies. Results of adaptation Jackson-Trochim method that school principals should have three types of competencies to lead the school effectively and efficiently. Kind of competencies are such as school leadership, instructional leadership, and operational leadership. Based on these results, the adaptationof Jackson-Trochim method to build the competence concept of school principals suggests this concept obtained may serve as a reference for school principals continue to build competencies in the future

Competence is generally defined as the ability, the knowledge; attitudes and skills to do job effectively and efficiently. Because the school principals is a key success of a school, the this study can provide information about the competencies that need to be supplied to the school principals as educational leaders, who in accordance to various references, study results or documents. Hence, this study specifically focuses on the competence of school principals based on Ministry of Education Malaysia; Florida Department of Education, and Ministry of National Education Indonesia. Base on the purpose of this study, document analyzed was conducted by adapting methods of Concept Mapping. Based on the results obtained that, in generally competencies that need to be supplied to the competence of school principals based on schools; teachers (staff); and students. Meanwhile, results of document analyzed of the school principals from three documents are oriented to the school in general; oriented instructional leadership to the aspects of teaching done by teacher; and operational oriented to the school for student success. Therefore, this study suggests that the importance of school principals should be provided as has been highlighted competencies for school achievement.

Pendidikan merupakan suatu rekayasa teaching untuk mengendalikan learning untuk mencapai tujuan secara efektif dan efisien. Konsep tersebut menjadi asas bagi guru untuk senantiasa melakukan inovasi dalam proses pembelajaran, khususnya mata pelajaran matematika yang dianggap sulit oleh sebagian besar siswa. Sebagai contoh, berdasarkan hasil pretest yang dilakukan oleh penulis sebagian besar mereka salah dalam menentukan hasil operasi dari -3 + (-2) and -3 – (-2). Hasil penelitian tindakan kelas ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan hasil belajar operasi bilangan bulat dengan menggunakan model kartu dari siklus I dengan rata – rata 7,40 menjadi 9,30 pada siklus II. Oleh itu, metode penggunaan model kartu ini bisa menjadi satu inovasi pembelajaran operasi bilangan bulat khususnya pada sekolah dasar.

Pendidikan merupakan suatu rekayasa untuk mengendalikan learning guna mencapai tujuan yang direncanakan secara efektif dan efisien, dalam proses rekayasa ini peranan teaching sangat penting karena merupakan kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh guru untuk mentransfer pengetahuan, keterampilan dan nilai kepada siswa sehingga apa yang ditransfer memiliki makna bagi siswa sendiri dan berguna bagi dirinya sendiri dan masyarakat. Upaya untuk menghadapi tantangan tersebut adalah seorang guru perlu kreatif dan inovatif menciptakan metode mengajar yang dapat meningkatkan efektivitas proses pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, kajian ini yang merupakan laporan hasil penelitian tindakan kelas pada salah satu SD Negeri di Kabupaten Maros Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh, pada umumnya terjadi peningkatan efektivitas proses berupa sikap belajar peserta didik yang diukur dengan menggunakan angket pengamatan dari siklus I dengan mean sebesar 1,80 ke siklus II sebesar 2,20. Sementara itu, hasil penilaian kognitif yang diukur dengan soal pencapaian kompetensi dasar juga mengalami peningkatan mean dari 70,55 pada siklus I menjadi 74,00 pada siklus ke II. Metode ini sangat dimungkinkan dapat dikembangkan melalui pendidikan matematika, karena matematika memiliki struktur dengan keterkaitan yang kuat dan jelas satu dengan yang lainnya, serta berpola pikir deduktif dan konsisten serta matematika merupakan alat yang dapat memperjelas dan menyederhanakan suatu keadaan atau situasi melalui abstraksi, idealisasi, atau generalisasi untuk suatu studi pemecahan masalah
