Abstract

Infrastructure is one of the primary parts to drive economic growth. An area with adequate infrastructure will have good and stable economic growth. West Nusa Tenggara Province, as one of the disaster-prone areas, is facing significant problems in development, especially related to infrastructure and economic growth. After the disaster in 2018, the economy of West Nusa Tenggara Province has a sharp contraction to the negative value. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the prospects for infrastructure development to boost economic growth in the province of West Nusa Tenggara with panel data analysis. The results show that the infrastructures of electricity, water infrastructures, schools, health facilities, and capital expenditure have positive and significant effects on economic growth, while the length of the road has no significant effect. The effort to boost economic growth, the infrastructure development must be focused on the non-mining and non-quarrying sector. Also, areas with high earthquake potential must be considered to build earthquake-resistant infrastructure. For the road, it needs to improve the quality, just not the quantity.

Abstract

Solving the unemployment issue is one of the best ways to reduce poverty. Through the provision of job opportunities, the poverty rate can be reduced. Therefore, this research explores the factors that influence the unemployment rate across 34 provinces over the 2015-2018 period using the panel regression technique. The variable used consisting of economic growth, the percentage of people with IT competence, and the average school duration. This study indicates that the unemployment rate can be reduced by increasing the average school duration. Meanwhile, the level of economic growth and the proportion of people with IT competence have an insignificant influence on Indonesia's unemployment rate. Based on these findings, the government needs to ensure that every resident in its territory can receive an adequate education.

Abstract

Students from various regions in Indonesia are more likely to be affected by mental health disorders caused by encountering an unfamiliar environment. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of culture shock and social support on depression, anxiety, and stress that is experienced. This research is a cross-sectional study using primary data taken from Polytechnic of Statistics students in the academic year of 2018/2019. The questionnaire refers to DASS-21, MOS Social Support, and 12 cultural concussion items formed by Taft and Mumford. The data obtained were analyzed by the PLS-SEM method. The results found that the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress experienced by students are 25.36%, 58.41%, and 17.20%, respectively. In addition, the high occurence of culture shock makes the depression, anxiety and stress experienced increased. Conversely, there was no significant effect between social support and culture shock, depression, anxiety, and stress. The high prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress experienced by students have a negative impact. All related parties are expected to help overcome students' mental health disorders.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the high interest of the people and the People's Representative Council (PRC) to make their regional autonomous. On the other hand, according to the Ministry of the Interior of the New Autonomous Region, the results of the autonomous region still failed to develop. To see the welfare of the people in the region resulting from the autonomous, researchers tried to look at it based on the results of regional macro development. Therefore, a Regional Development Index (RDI) constructed, which uses the factor analysis weighting method. RDI can be used to see the achievements of the regional development in Indonesia by looking at the comparison of development outcomes. So that RDI can see the development performance of the new autonomous regency/city and see the comparison with the origin regency/city. Besides, researchers looked at the effect of the share of mining Regional-GDP, the share of agricultural Regional-GDP, the average length of school for workers (ALSW), the percentage of roads in a minimum good condition and the growth of regional original income (ROI) to development performance in the autonomous regency/city using the method of regression analysis with panel data. Based on the results obtained, development in the area of new autonomy is not much different from the development in the origin area. Also, the average length of school for workers (ALSW) and minimum road percentage both have positive and significant effects on RDI, while the share of agricultural GRDP has a negative and significant effect on RDI.

Abstract

One of the purposes of the establishment of SOEs is to become a source of funding for the state. But unfortunately, the losses and potential bankruptcy is still a business challenge to date. Therefore, the aims of this research to analyze the SOEs’ financial performance and the factors that affected profitability. The analysis method used is panel data regression involving 118 financial data companies in the year of 2012-2016. The variables used consisted of return on assets (ROA), total asset growth (TAG), current ratio (CR), total assets turnover (TATO), and debt to equity ratio (DER).After eliminating the outlier data and use other statistical tests, a fixed-model effect (FEM) was obtained. Based on the analysis result, the effect of TAG, CR, and TATO is positive and significant on the ROA. Meanwhile, the effect of the DER is not significant on ROA. This model is able to explain the variation of the dependent variable of 92,40 percent.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has harmed the economy in East Java. Households with the largest share of RGDP also experienced sluggish demand, which impacted the economic decline in East Java of more than eight trillion rupiahs. Economic recovery efforts through household consumption recovery are one of the strategic options to accelerate general economic recovery. Therefore, this study was conducted on RGDP data for household expenditure groups in all districts/cities in East Java during the 2016-2020 period using a panel regression analysis approach. The variables used include household consumption GRDP growth, inflation, regional poverty profile, percentage of internet users for online shopping, and the realization of social spending per capita of the poor. The findings of this study indicate that household consumption in East Java is classified as inelastic to price changes. It is due to the dominance of food consumption and controlled inflation. Meanwhile, the regional poverty profile has a negative impact on the recovery of household consumption. It shows that districts/cities with a high percentage of poor people tend to be more difficult to recover. Furthermore, the digitalization of the economy through e-commerce has not yet had a significant effect on the recovery of household consumption. It is due to the low use of the internet for online shopping among the population. The realization of social assistance per capita has a positive effect in encouraging the recovery of household consumption, although the contribution given is relatively small. It is caused by the low social assistance received compared to the loss of income experienced by the community. As a follow-up, there are four policies that the government can take to encourage the recovery of household consumption, including the sustainability of food price stabilization policies, increased penetration and digital education for MSMEs and the public, a combination of massive and comprehensive poverty alleviation policies, and synchronization of fiscal policy between government level.
