Abstract

The ability of a teacher to design mathematical problems affects the characteristics and quality of mathematics learning that teachers do in class. Therefore, teachers need to have insight into how to design problems to encourage certain students' thinking skills. This study aims to describe improvement in teacher's ability to design mathematics problems before and after discussion activities designed by researchers. The method used is qualitative descriptive with the subject of seven junior high school mathematics teachers. Based on the results of this study it was found that after participating in the discussion activities, the number of teachers who designed problems that could encourage the level of thinking ability to apply decreased by 28.57%, the level of evaluation increased by 21.43%, the level analyzed remained, and the level of understanding increased by 7.14%. From 28 problems that have been designed both before and after the discussion activities, it is found that 10.71% is a matter that drives the level of understanding, 50% encourages the level of application, 17.86% encourages the level of analysis and 21.43% encourages the level to evaluate.

This community service aims to help teachers better understand writing techniques, increase understanding of scientific articles and develop professionalism as instructors through scientific article writing activities. The method in community service activities is to provide workshops to Islamic Mathematics and Natural Sciences Al-Abhariyah Vocational School teachers on writing scientific articles. The results of community service show that participants have the ability to understand the techniques of writing scientific articles, distinguish scientific articles from scientific works and have the desire to conduct research even though it has not been realizedKeywords: Workshop, scientific articles, mathematics and natural sciences teachersAbstrak.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to describe the students' thought processes in solving statistical story problems in terms of understanding the questions and strategies used by students in solving these problems. The subjects involved were 13 students of the Mathematics Education Study Program IKIP Mataram, in which 8 of them were male and 5 were female. Data is collected through a matter of statistical instruments sub subject matter about the average of a data. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively on the answer sheets of each subject with a focus on describing the two main parts of the Polya stage, namely the stage of understanding the questions and the strategies used in answering them assisted with thought process indicators. The results showed that most subjects had a semiconceptual thought process both in terms of understanding and the strategies used, while only one subject had a conceptual thinking process.
