Abstract

Chemistry is part of the natural sciences, which includes the understanding of chemical concepts and calculations. These two concepts that should be owned by the students in understanding the chemistry so that students are easy to master the science of chemistry. The purpose of this research is to know the mathematical ability of students in class XI IPA 2 15 SMA N Semarang and to know the results of the study in terms of his mathematical ability of students on the material of Thermochemistry. The method of this research is descriptive.The data collected using the techniques of observation, measurement, andinterviews. The results of the analysis show that students have average math skills students of 62.74 measured at 6 indicators of the ability of mathematical material contained on Thermochemistry. The results of a study on the material of Thermochemistry students have an average of 51.95. Analysis of the students' answer sheets on the test results of the study showed that students already have a good math skills with percentage of 58.82%. The data also showed that students who have difficulty on the material of Thermochemistrybecause the students less understand the concepts of chemistry.Keywords : Mathematical Ability, The Results Of The Study, Thermochemistry

Abstract

Teams Games Tournament (TGT) is one of cooperative learning models easy toimplement fpt students in the class. TGT involves students activity and role of students as peer tutor, it contains game and reinforcement. TGT used tournament of academic, quiz and individual score where every single student as a team representative competes with another team to obtain a highest score. The use of TGT in learning activity could make students more relaxed, besides it could improve responsibility, honesty and teamwork. The aim of this research is to observe and know student activity during thermochemistry lesson by usingTGT in XI IPA 5 in SMA N 15 Semarang. This research used both quantitative andqualitative method, the researcher obtained data by distributing questionnaire, conducting an interview and observing the field. Based on the research, the researcher obtained the data that students activity in XI IPA 5 by using TGT within two categories “sangat baik” and “baik”. The result showed that XI IPA 5 obtained percentage of 78% regarding to visual activities, 84% regarding to listening activities, writing activities obtained percentage of 85%, 83% regarding to mental activities, while oral activities indicator obtained percentage of 60%, those percentage werecategorized into “baik”. keywords:Teams games tournament, active,cooperative learning
