Abstract

Pada penelitian ini peneliti fokus pada analisis code-mixing didalam percakapan masyarakat kota Luwuk Kabupaten Banggai di masa pandemi Covid-19. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui jenis code-mixing yang digunakan, jenis code-mixing yang paling dominan digunakan, serta faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya code-mixing didalam percakapan masyarakat kota Luwuk. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Adapun metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah (1) observasi yakni berupa pengamatan terhadap hasil percakapan berupa rekaman mapun catatan. dan (2) wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat tiga jenis code-mixing yang terjadi di dalam percakapan masyarakat kota luwuk yakni intra-sentential code-mixing, intra-lexical code-mixing, dan perubahan pengucapan. Dari tiga jenis code-mixing tersebut, jenis intra-sentential merupakan jenis yang paling dominan. Selain itu diperoleh pula factor yang mempengaruhi terjadinya proses code-mixing di dalam percakapan, yakni factor non kebahasan yang meliputi social value perkenalan budaya baru, serta faktor kebahasaan yang meliputi keterbatasan penggunaan kode, penggunaan istilah yang lebih popular, pembicara pribadi pembicara, mitra bicara, topic pembicaraan, fungsi dan tujuan, serta untuk membangkitkan rasa humor.

Abstract

This research aimed at describing the topics of compliment, the strategies in responding compliment and the influence of intimacy in complimenting among Saluanese in Nambo sub district. This research was conducted in Nambo sub district, Banggai regency. The study was descriptive research by using qualitative approach. Methods used in collecting data were an observation, an interview, and field notes. There were 31 expressions of compliments and compliment respenses used by Saluanese in Nambo sub district. The result of this research indicates that the most topics used by Saluanese in complimenting were possession about 39%, then appearance 32%, performance 26% and personality 3%. It indicates that Saluanese tends to give compliment in possessive aspect such as children, assets, luxury and position or profession. The most strategy used by Saluanese was agreement about 71%, then non-agreement 26% and other interpretation 3%. It can be concluded that Salauanese likes to get compliment and intimacy contributes in responding compliment

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi dengan hadirnya pandemi Covid-19 di negara Indonesia yang mempengaruhi seluruh aspek kehidupan masyarakatnya, termasuk ragam bahasa yang digunakan. Begitu banyak istilah asing yang muncul di tengah-tengah masyarakat terkait covid-19. Hal ini menyebabkan meningkatnya penggunaan code-mixing (campur kode) antara bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa asing (bahasa Inggris) di dalam percakapan masyarakat kota Luwuk Kabupaten Banggai. Mengingat masyarakat kota Luwuk merupakan masyarakat multilingual yang sering menggabungkan dua bahasa bahkan lebih dalam berkomunikasi. Abstract

Language acquisition is a natural process of children in getting language from zero ability become fluency in using language. This research focused on first language acquisition analysis and factors that influence first language (L1) acquisition. It conducted with descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is two children in three years old, which is consist of one girl and one boy. The writer took her boy and nephew as the research subject. Observation and documentation in video recording form is technique that used in collecting the data. After the data have been collected and analyzed, it found out (1) Language development of three years girl is faster than three years boy, (2) there are internal factor that affecting first language acquisition of children, and (3) there are external factors that affecting first language acquisition. Abstract

Tense is a part of English grammar that becomes something difficult to understand by students. Therefore, it needs interesting and creative learning media to face that problem. This research purposes to evaluate and analyze the implementation of Kahoot as a digital learning media in improving students’ understanding about tenses in higher education. There were 15 students in Civic Department of Education Faculty in Universitas Tompotika Luwuk as the sample of this research. Mix method in concurrent embedded strategy design was chosen as methodology of research. Quantitative data was collected through test, while qualitative data was collected by observation and interview. Hypothesis testing and descriptive analysis was conducted as analyzing technique. The quantitative result found that there was the improvement of students’ study result about tenses from pretest to posttest. The value of t-count (9,5176) which is greater than the value of t-table (2,048) is the proof. Moreover, quantitative result was supported by qualitative analysis result. It was proved by students’ achievement towards understanding indicators, namely translation, interpretation, and extrapolation. This research expected becomes contribution for the teachers and learners for implemented Kahoot as an interesting and creative learning media.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan topik pujian, strategi dalam menanggapi pujian dan pengaruh pujian dan respon pujian terhadap keharmonisan rumah tangga kader Wahdah Islamiyah Banggai. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif Metode pengumpulan data melalui angket dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa topik yang paling banyak digunakan dalam memuji adalah keterampilan atau kemampuan, kemudian penampilan, kepribadian dan kepemilkan. Adapun strategi yang banyak digunakan dalam merespon pujian adalah menerima pujian, kemudian menolak pujian, mengomentari pujian, diam, membalas pujian, menjelaskan pujian, mengalihkan pujian, merendahkan diri, mengajukan pertanyaan dan meningkatkan pujian. Pujian dan respon pujian berpengaruh terhadap keharmonisan rumah tangga kader Wahdah Islamiyah Banggai.

Abstract

In the learning process, students usually never pay attention to the teacher, and finally can influence their study result. It is happen because of the students feel bored and not interest to study English, especially English vocabularies. This research used website as a learning media. The objective of this research is to know whether website can increasing students’ interest in English vocabulary and can influence the students’ study result or not. In that case, the sample of this research is fifth grade of SD Lab Kota Gorontalo which consists of 17 students. The method of this research is quasi experimental method which used pretest and posttest design. The instrument which is used in collecting the data is the test, and it was analyzed by using t-test. The result of this research shows that the using of website can increase students’ interest and can influence students’ achievement. The criteria used to verify the hypothesis is the is accepted if is smaller than ( < ). Based on the analysis of this research, it is found that is smaller than (-4 < 2.037) with the level of significance α=0.05 and dk=(n1+n2-2). It means that the hypothesis is acceptable. In the other word, it found that website can increase students’ interest in English vocabulary and can influence students’ study result.

Abstract

The aim of this study was describing higher students’ ability in writing narration text on their blog. This study method is descriptive quantitative. The data was collected from the 30 higher students in mathematic department of education faculty in Universitas Tompotika Luwuk by asking them to write narration text on their blog. The students were asked to write narration text on their blog that they had chosen. In analyzing the data, I focus on ideas, richness of content, rhetorical features, organization, language control, and mechanism. From the data analyzed, it found that the students’ ability is 399,31 or 66,55% which is classified as high category. From the data calculation, I found that the students’ writing components are as follow: ideas is 98 or 65,33%, richness of content is 86 or 57,33%, rhetorical features is 121 or 80,66%, organization is 90 or 60%, language control is 83 or 55,33%, and mechanism is 121 or 80,66%. This study result implicates as contribution for the lecture, teacher, and students in teaching and learning narration text

Abstract

Writing is a complex process for the EFL learners. Therefore, it needs appropriate and interesting learning media. This research purposes to evaluate and analyze the effects of storyjumper as a digital learning media towards narrative writing ability of EFL learners. Classroom action research was chosen as research methodology. There were 32 learners in English Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk as the participant of this research. Descriptive statistic for the quantitative data and descriptive analysis for the qualitative data was conducted as analyzing technique. The result found that storyjumper gave positive effects toward narrative writing ability of EFL learners. It can be proven from the improvement of test result in narrative writing. In the preliminary test, it was 57.16 as the mean score result, while in the cycle 1 was 68.33, and in the cycle 2 was 75.22. In addition, storyjumper also affected the writing process, namely they did not take a long time for start writing, active participated, and focused on the writing activity. Finally, the storyjumper gave positive effects towards EFL learners in narrative writing test and process.

Abstract

Speaking is one of English skill that has been learnt from junior high school until higher education. It means that students in higher education should have good capability in doing speaking in all contexts, include in daily conversation context. For this reason, this study was designed to determine the extent to which students' ability in speaking especially in daily conversation context. This study took 22 students in Educational Faculty of Tompotika Luwuk University as the participants. Descriptive qualitative is a method that chosen in this study. The data have been collected from observation and documentation. Observation and documentation collected when the students doing conversation. The result of this study shows that the students’ speaking ability in daily conversation context can be categorized into “poor”. It was proven by the students who got only 18,18% in good category, 22,72% in average category, 40,92% in poor category, and 18,2% in very poor category. Finally, it can be conclude that the students’ speaking ability in daily conversation context at higher education of Educational Faculty of Tompotika Luwuk University categorized into poor.
