Abstract

ABSTRACT Applying culture in the form of behavior or habits of each tribe is different, so it will give an identity to each appropriate tribe cultural habits. At the Toraja people are very attached to their culture in terms of death or corpse burial ceremonies, which famous as rambu solo. However, based on the results of this study revealed that the implementation of rambu solo custom procession in Pomalaa sub district of Kolaka had differences with the implementation of the customs from the native region of Tana Toraja in South Sulawesi. It was because of the neighborhoods and the culture of local communities that different with the culture of Tator ethnic. As the result of that, people there tended to simplify the traditional procession. Cultural constructions in shoreline become different from origin culture. Abstract

The study was carried out at SLB Mandara Kendari. The purpose of the study is to find the form of the dominant language use non verbal in communicating of the Deaf children. Theoretically, this study aims to enrich the treasure of knowledge, especially of communications knowledge, methodological study used as a reference for further researchers, especially those related to the discussed material. Practically, this study aims to inform parents who have Deaf child in order they know how to communicate through nonverbal communication. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative which applied purposive sampling with seven informants of Deaf children and two teachers as additional informants and theories that used were Kinesic Theory of Ray Birdwhistell. The finding of this study showed that the form of the dominant language used of nonverbal Deaf children communication were gesture and facial expressions. The form of nonverbal communication was the most effective used because the symbol they used were very straight forward, assertive, and clear for communicating with the teacher and the surroundings. Moreover, by using body language and facial expressions as a whole was quickly accepted by deaf children and their environment. Keywords: non-verbal language, deaf

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine how the delivery of a fairy tale that can be used as the basis of the character building education of preschool children in kindergarten in Kendari. The study used the qualitative descriptive method that describes a particular social situation performed by actors in the interactions. Researchers conducted data collection through in-depth interviews to the children who were treated by story telling at home by their parents and their kindergarten by their teachers. The researchers observed, check the information validity, and did some library research to complete the data through books, magazine, paper article, and photos documentation that related to the research object. The results of this study indicate that the fairy tale and the presentation (story telling) is still not a priority in doing in kindergarten because of various constraints, especially on the lack of teachers' creativity, participation, and concern of parents in the attempt of character building. Storytelling is considered as a good medium for the development of children's character. Story telling could be effective both presented with or without properties.
