Abstract

Critical thinking skills are higher order thinking skills that should be developed in schools, in line with the objectives of the 2013 revised curriculum which prioritizes 21st century skills as a provision for future life. This study aims to analyze and classify the level of students in constructing critical thinking skills. The research1subjects1were 28 students of class VIII B SMP Negeri 6 Ngawi for the academic year 2020/2021. Data collection was carried out through interviews and critical thinking skills tests. The method used was descriptive qualitative. The critical thinking skills test instrument was 5 essay questions consisting of 5 indicators. The results of the critical thinking skills test were declared valid in terms of the1results1of1validation, level of difficulty, differentiation, and reliability. The analysis was carried out on the student test results on each indicator and categorized into five critical thinking categories consisting of very good (VG), good (G), medium (M), low (L), and very low (VL). The results1showed that1the highest percentage of indicators of critical thinking was obtained by 32% which were indicators of tactical strategy setting. Critical thinking indicators obtained by the lowest percentage of 8% were indicators of building basic skills. This proves that critical thinking skills need to be further trained so that they can be improved in science learning and advance in the field of education.

Abstract

Module design for students laboratory activities plays an important role in the effective implementation of scientific investigation in the laboratory. The purpose of this review is to examine the types, topics, competencies, and approaches to develop laboratory module for biology students. The review of the literature was conducted systematically. Eighteen research articles were selected from 41 articles published within 2009 and 2019. The systematic review followed 5 steps. The research articles were searched using Google Scholar's online database and then traced back from the relevant international and national journals. The articles collected were selected by two reviewers who rated the quality. The results of the analysis showed that the laboratory modules are designed using the following basis: online, research, quantitative skills, inquiry, and traditional. The biology topics focused are Genetics, Ecology, Phylogenetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Evolution, Biotechnology, and Tissue Culture. The methods used for laboratory module development by Indonesian researchers are 4D, ADDIE, R & D, Dick & Carey, and Borg & Gall, while international researchers generally do not specify the name of the method used. Generally, the need analysis which focuses on the novelty of the developed concept is conducted in the beginning. It continues with module designing, validation, implementation, and response survey from the students as the module users.

Abstract

Characteristics of seeds such as seed shape, color, size, texture of the seed coats and  hilum shape can be used to solve classification problems. With biology microskop  observations obtained under specification of character seeds for 12 species of  Indigofera  from Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The results showed that the pattern of seed coat ornamentation, hilum, seed shape may help in the identification of the species..

Abstract

This type of research is development research that aims to determine the characteristics, feasibility and effectiveness of the guided inquiry-based respiratory system E-module to improve students' critical thinking skills. The development model used is research and development which refers to the Borg and Gall development model which has been modified and adapted to conditions in the field, which consists of nine stages, namely: Research and informing collecting, Planning, Develop preliminary form of product, Preliminary feed testing, Main product revision, Main field testing, Operational product revision, Operational field testing, E-module final product. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis which is used to describe the characteristics of the e-module to be developed, the feasibility analysis of the e-module based on the N-gain score obtained. The results of the N-gain test score in the control class, which is 0.65, are included in the medium category, while for the experimental class the average N-gain score of 0.78 is included in the high category. Based on these results, guided inquiry-based E-modules are very feasible to be used in learning and have proven effective in improving students' critical thinking skills

Abstract

This study aims to determine the feasibility of a POGIL-based e-module to empower students' critical thinking skills. The type of research used is research and development with research procedures using ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development Implementation, Evaluation) model development. This research is limited to the feasibility test of POGIL-based e-modules at the development stage. The assessment of the validity test results and the questionnaire practicality test were interpreted on a Likert scale. Based on data analysis, the following results were obtained: validity tests by POGIL-based e-module learning media obtained an average of 88.3% for media validity; 96.6% for the validity of the material; and 87.5% for Language validity. Practicality tests conducted by teachers get an average of 84% and students by 90.6%. Based on the validity and practicality test of POGIL-based e-module learning media to empower students' critical thinking skills, they are declared feasible to be used for further research
