Abstract

This study aimed to examine more about Neolithic human life support in western Java. Research on the distribution patterns and factors affecting it which expected to give clues about human behavior patterns in the use of space or the natural environment for their activities. This study uses descriptive and inductive reasoning, which essentially aims to provide a snapshot of a particular fact or symptoms obtained in the study place- ment. There are two locations, namely (1) the sites in key river basins, namely Ci Langla and (2) sites in tributaries flow Ci Langla, among others are Ci Lumping, Ci Karaha, and Ci Sodong. Some are located in key river basins as much as five sites, occupy the other nine tributary of Ci Langla.

Abstract

Research about Pleistocene human environments in West Java is still limited, based on this fact our study was conducted. One of the Pleistocene sites in West Java that has thepotential for studying paleo-environmental is the Cisaar Valley. Cisaar Valley is locatedon the east part of the Sumedang Regency in West Java Province. The area is close to the boundary of the Sumedang-Majalengka Regency. In this location, the sandy and clay dominated the sedimentary rocks which are well exposed along the outcrops in the Cisaar Valley. These sedimentary rocks are inferred from Pliocene-Pleistocene deposits from Kaliwangu and Citalang Formation. Data obtained from selected references and measuring stratigraphic sections along Cisaar River and its tributary rivers in Cibengkung and Cirendang hamlets, Jembarwangi village. There are at least three depositional paleoenvironments which from oldest to the youngest age are: shallow marine, estuarine and fluviatile braided channel depositional paleo-environment. Characteristics of the lower, middle and upper of the estuarine environment were found on Cisaar Valley as the evidence of the oceanic regression processes which was happened in the past in this area. Two horizons of the fauna units in the Cisaar Valley are found, namely the Cisaat fauna which is its age more than one million years ago and the Trinil fauna associated with stone artifacts that were around 1-0.9 million years ago.

Abstract

This study puts forward the problems about the function and role of stones in the megalithic tradition. The purpose of this study reveals the existence of scratched stones andtheir role in a megalithic site. The function and role of bergores stones in the Lampung region can not be separated from the element of worship. Scratched stones are always associated with other findings, namely menhirs, dolmen, flat stones, and sequential stones. Desires and expectations from supporters of megalithic culture to gain strength from ancestral spirits treat bergores stone as one of the complementary means of worship other than other types of megaliths. The form of visualization of interactions carried out with ancestral spirits is poured in the form of scratches.

Abstract

This paper is intended to examine more about the lives of neolithic supporters in West Java and can provide clues about patterns of human behavior in utilizing space for its activities. There are 19 neolithic sites along Das Cibeureum, spread over two subdistricts, namely Curugbitung and Maja. The results showed that the 19 sites were grouped. This paper uses the analysis of the nearest neighbor which considers several factors, including: (1) distance, (2) linkages (interactions), and (3) movements. Neolithic sites are in two districts, namely Curugbitung and Maja Districts. The conclusion from this paper is that the 19 sites are grouped. The grouping of neolithic sites is strongly influenced by the location of the river. This is due to the potential of the river as a transportation route and water provider for supporting living needs.

Abstract

Neolithic sites in the Karangnunggal Region along Ci Langla, starting from upstream to downstream. This paper will reveal the variety of neolithic artifacts in Ci Langla downstream. Thus it will be known about the activities of human life supporting neolithics in the area. Research on the distribution patterns and influencing factors is expected to be able to provide clues about human behavior patterns in utilizing space. The method used in the cultural approach focuses on archeological material or direct observation of artifacts (artifact oriented analysis). The artifacts analyzed are related to the activities of the adze workshop.

Abstract

Lebak Regency is an area in the southern part of Banten Province which is fertile and dominated by agricultural land. The condition of Lebak in the past based on archaeological remains, especially megalithic remains, shows traces of farming. The traces of the megalithic remains in the form of mortars and dakon stones were obtained at three sites, namely the Gunung Anakan site, the Parigi Lebakbinong site, and the Pasir Nangka site. The problem raised in this paper is what is the function of the mortar stone and dakon stone for supporting communities in Lebak Banten. Knowledge of the function of mortar and dakon stone will be able to reconstruct the role of mortar and dakon stone in the past related to farming. This paper uses descriptive analytical methods and inductive reasoning with a material culture approach. The existence of mortar and dakon stone indicates subsistence based on agriculture or farming.
