Abstract

Currently, Archipelagic Islam (Islam Nusantara) is a familiar term to Indonesian people. In addition to giving a dystinctive color to Islam, it also promotes diversity, by adapting Islamic values into the local culture. Islam Nusantara brings forward moderate understanding of Islam by accepting differences, promoting well-being, tolerance, mutual respect and peace. On the other side, the puritans do not regard the culture as a national identity based on textualist interpretation of the Qur’an ultimately leading to violence, coercion, infidelity, misleading and intolerance. This paper will examine what Islam Nusantara means and what kind of Islam that it promotes and how it plays a role in safeguarding the unity of the Republic of Indonesia from the puritan groups who are easily to label others as infidels for not practicing Islam as found in the Middle East. Keywords: Islam Nusantara, Nusantara, Puritans, Local Culture

Abstract

Human life can not be separated from the natural world around it. Nature is the main source of humans to connect the chain of life. Suber food basically comes from nature which is then processed in such a way by humans. That way, it is very necessary to have actions that are caring and conserving nature so that it is maintained. In Hinduism, there is the term Panca Yadnya which contains the worship or sacrifice which is done sincerely and sincerely from the heart. One of the elements of the five Yadnya is done to the Butha to preserve nature and harmony of human life during the world called the Bhuta Yadnya. In another sense, Bhuta Yadnya is an offering made with the welfare of plants. Of course this is also related to natural conditions which are an important component in supporting the survival of human life. The relationship between nature and humans is inseparable because the two are interrelated, therefore, it is necessary to have a reciprocal relationship in maintaining a balance between the two. In this paper, it explains about the role of the Panca Yadnya ceremony or the five types of sacrifices performed in Hindu beliefs, especially regarding the Bhuta Yad whose role is to preserve nature. In undergoing the life cycle of the world, humans play an important role in preserving the surrounding natural preservation.

Abstract

The textualist group, since the presence of social media as a form of technological progress, has changed platforms in spreading its exclusive understanding, or even plunged into extreme doctrinal actions. However, on the other hand, there is dynamic Islam with the same vision spreading its ideology and teachings which are more inclined towards moderate, inclusive and tolerant movements. This article attempts to analyze the importance of the dominance of the moderate Islamic narrative as a bulwark for Indonesian society so that it is not exposed to textualist Islamic circles who tend to legalize violence in the name of religion, are conservative, extreme and even non-tolerant. Textualist Islam is represented by Hizbut Tharir Indonesia and Salafi-Wahabi, while the moderate actor is Nahdlatul Ulama. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis, with the steps of writing literature and media studies. The findings of this article are that implementing inclusive narratives in the digital space is by applying the values of religious moderation, by creating inclusive, creative and interesting content, collaboratively, and continuously. In this way, it is able to create an expansion of the area of dominance of inclusive narratives on various digital media platforms. This effort is a form of religious actualization that is rahmatan lil 'alamin and maintains diversity from divisions in the name of religion.

Abstract

An act of  “Kebhinekaan” is the main basis foundation in the life of Indonesian society. Diversity is a gift that cannot be negated so need to be respected as well as acknowledged. This study analyzes ritual offerings phenomenon practiced by the local community around Telaga Sarangan, Magetan, and East Java in preserving “Kebhinekaan” in the digital era. Used qualitative approach as well as Clifford Gertz’s theory on religion and symbol,  the article shows that the ritual offerings consisted of two sessions. The main ritual is a cultural carnival (carving and throwing a tumpeng). The second is a pre-ritual (Kambing Kendit slaughter, pilgrimage to the tombs (Kyai and Nyai Pasir), and thanksgiving. Morever, the ritual aims to thank of God's blessings and maintain safety and harmony. The article argues that rituals can be a medium in strengthening the values of  “Kebhinekaan”and creativity through the carnival events. The events provide various values including religious and cultural meanings, strengthen kinship, humility, safety, and symbolic values (local wisdom). As a result, an act of “Kebhinekaan” and local wisdom strengthenes national identity and integrity through society's innovation and creativity of local community members.
