Background: Dental Brushing is an effort made to keep teeth clean and healthy. Dental Brushing is a basic skill that children need to have, including mentally retarded (tuna grahita) children. Children with mental retardation are children with learning abilities and social adaptation below the average ability of children in general. Methods: The purpose of this study is to determine the differences between dental brushing behavior before and after being given counseling using the video method to improve self-care learning for SLB Negeri 1 mentally disabled children Jambi City, 2019. The benefits of research are expected to be meaningful input for establishing policies on dental health.The design used of this study is a Quasi Experimental with the One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The populations of this study are 99 mentally retarded SLB Negeri 1 children. The researcher uses the Purposive sampling to take the samples. The research instrument uses is the Checklist questionnaire (sheets). The method of collecting data is by conducting observations on how to brush teeth for mentally retarded children before and after being given counseling. Results:Tthe average dental brushing behavior score before being given counseling using the videos method are 6.00, and have a slight increase in the average of dental brushing behavior score after counseling using the video method are 8.80. There are differences between dental brushing behavior before and after being given counseling using the video method (p-value = 0,000). Conclusion:The use of video was significantly improve self-care learning for mentally retarded chikdren at SLB N 1 Jambi City, 2019
